Shadow and Light: The Bride Who Clicks Her Way to Love
Chapter 193 - 195: She Needs Him
Mrs. Gui hurriedly supported her: "Young madam, young madam? Are you alright?" đđđđŚđđđđđđˇđđ.đ¸đ°đ
Su Xingyu bent over in pain, speaking intermittently, "I... Iâm alright."
Mrs. Gui wasnât reassured. Having been making brown sugar water for her these past few days, she roughly understood why Su Xingyu was in such pain: "Why donât you go and rest first? Madam is already out of surgery, and I can take care of her."
Su Xingyu, truly unable to endure the pain anymore, nodded.
Mrs. Gui helped her out of the hospital and didnât return until she got Su Xingyu into the car, then she stayed in the VIP single room to watch over Du Shuxian.
Du Shuxianâs anesthesia from surgery hadnât worn off, combined with the craniotomy being a major surgery; she had been sleeping for a long time without waking.
In the latter part of the night, the door to the VIP room was pushed open. Mrs. Gui looked up to see Lu Shifeng, dust-laden in a suit, walking in, accompanied by a woman in a refined suit, Miss Zhuang.
He actually rushed back, and brought Zhuang Heng along?
Thoughts swirled in Mrs. Guiâs mind as she stood up and called, "Young master, Miss Zhuang."
Lu Shifeng strode to the bedside, looked down at his mother, and asked, "How is she?"
Mrs. Gui answered, "Madam just had surgery. The doctor said it was very successful, her head injuries will recover, and several minor fractures on her body have been treated as well. As long as she recuperates properly, there shouldnât be any sequelae."
Zhuang Heng, who was beside Lu Shifeng, spoke, "Aunt has always been cautious; how did this happen?"
Mrs. Gui glanced at Lu Shifeng and then carefully replied, "Madam went to... went to see Miss Su, offered her ten million to leave you, but Miss Su refused. The two started pulling at each other, and Madam accidentally fell down the stairs."
Zhuang Hengâs expression seemed a bit surprised, "So it was Su Xingyu who angered Aunt like this. She really doesnât get along with colleagues at the company nor does she handle things well with Aunt outside. No matter how dissatisfied she is with Aunt, how can she push her down the stairs? Thatâs too excessive, totally not respecting elders." She said this, seemingly pained, sighing.
Mrs. Gui slightly lowered her eyelids, speaking even more cautiously, "It wasnât Miss Su who pushed her; Madam simply missed a step."
Zhuang Hengâs well-groomed eyes lightly swept over Mrs. Gui, "Mrs. Gui, I know youâre good-hearted and want peace. But for such a big issue, donât cover for Su Xingyu anymore. Paper canât cover fire; when Aunt wakes up and hears you say this, sheâll only be angrier. Her body isnât well yet; if she gets further agitated, whoâll be responsible?"
"It really wasnât Miss Su..." Mrs. Guiâs scalp tingled under Zhuang Hengâs gaze but she still had to speak. She didnât want the young master to misunderstand the young madam; the relationship between them was already struggling, how could it bear additional troubles?
Zhuang Heng said, "What benefits has she given you for you to stand up for her like this?"
"I..."
"Enough," came Lu Shifengâs voice, cold, "Everyone shut up. Mrs. Gui, where is Su Xingyu?"
Mrs. Gui didnât argue further with Zhuang Heng. The young masterâs words made her more alert, "Miss Su wasnât feeling well, watched over madam during the surgery, later couldnât hold up and went home to rest."
"Not feeling well?" Zhuang Hengâs voice was gentle, but her smile had a hint of coldness, "How coincidental that she injured Aunt here and felt unwell over there. What kind of discomfort is more significant than Auntâs injuries? Shifeng," she turned her head, looked at the man beside her, softly said, "I know sheâs your woman, but you canât indulge her too much. She called you back from afar, being so busy, yet she as the main culprit isnât around; what kind of unruly woman is that?"
Lu Shifengâs voice was icy, "Zhuang Heng, I remember you werenât this talkative before."
Zhuang Heng was startled, instinctively closed her mouth, but her heart felt like a thin blade had sliced through.
The Lu Shifeng from before didnât treat her with such impatience!
Her mind cried out in alarm silently, barely maintaining a smile, her voice lowered, "I was just worried seeing Aunt injured."
"Worried?" Lu Shifeng glanced at her, "Donât worry, my mother will be fine, as the doctor already said." After speaking, he looked at Mrs. Gui again, "Get a car ready, Iâll go check on Xingyu."
Mrs. Gui felt delighted inside, his tone didnât sound like he was rejecting Su Xingyu, she rapidly agreed.
Zhuang Heng, however, paled, he wanted to go check on Xingyu? She had spent her efforts, sacrificed her beauty sleep, to accompany him on the journey overnight, not just to see him go to another womanâs side!
"Shifeng," she gently called him, "Aunt is still sick, shouldnât you stay with her a bit longer?"
"What good will staying do," Lu Shifeng was unmoved, "There are doctors, and servants, isnât that enough?" He hadnât come back this time to see Du Shuxian, but because Leng Fei said he heard how anxious Su Xingyu sounded over the phone. He worried about his young wife facing such an issue for the first time, lost and directionless. For some reason, whenever he thought of her confused face, his heart ached faintly.
There are doctors and nurses with Du Shuxian, but what about her?
Who is there at her side during this time?
Sheâs still sick, the image of her menstrual pain being unbearable still lingered in his mind. Mrs. Gui came to take care of Du Shuxian, so when Xingyu was in unbearable pain, who would be there to pour her a cup of hot brown sugar water?
This thought haunted his mind, making him unable to focus on work, thus he rushed back overnight.
Zhuang Heng, unaware of his thoughts, had persuaded Lu Shifeng to let her accompany him back with great difficulty, originally thinking of showcasing her virtue and filial piety in front of him, while tarnishing Su Xingyu. Yet she hadnât anticipated that even his mother wouldnât matter, as he only had his mind set on Su Xingyu! "Shifeng," Zhuang Hengâs voice was softer, faintly carried with grievance, "Auntâs injuries might worsen if she canât see you after waking. Canât you stay with her a bit longer?"
Lu Shifeng glanced at her, "She wonât be upset."
Back when he was little, suffering from pneumonia, near dying with high fever, only doctors and nurses stayed by his side. And his mother? Barely even came to see him. In Du Shuxianâs eyes, illness wasnât a big deal.
But Xingyu was different; he always remembered how during his stomach illness, a gentle hand softly covered his stomach during a quiet night. Every little ailment was treated as a big deal by her, let alone this time with menstrual pain so severe that when she got off the bus, she wavered with weak steps, leaning against him as if he were her entire world.
She needs him.
"Prepare the car, letâs go back," Lu Shifeng said.
After speaking, he glanced at Zhuang Heng, "Iâll arrange another driver to take you, youâre tired, get some rest early."
Zhuang Heng saw that it was irreparable, looked at him, then glanced at Du Shuxian lying on the bed. Her heart made a resolute decision, "Shifeng, you leave first, Iâll accompany Aunt for a while. Rest assured, Iâll take good care of her."
