Richest Rag-picker
Chapter 182 - 181: Menghan, I Thought of an Idiom
’System, System! Get the hell out here! What the fuck is this reward supposed to be? I finally get a special reward, and you give me this thing? Swap it! I want a swap! Can you please swap it for something else!’
He stood there, woven bag in hand, an expression of utter dismay on his face as he called out to the System in his mind.
As if the System had heard its master’s protest, its voice actually sounded out after Fang Chenyi finished his mental tirade:
’DING! Objection to the special item reward has been detected. Based on the item’s contents, two options are now available. One: a life-sized Oosawa Marya doll. Two: an Oosawa Marya male co-star doll. Please make a selection, Master.’
’Holy shit! System, can you be any more disgusting? I don’t want it anymore! I’ll just forfeit this special reward, okay?’
Hearing the System’s response, Fang Chenyi nearly jumped out of his skin. ’A male co-star doll... UGH! That’s just too disgusting.’
The System’s voice sounded again:
"Master, do you wish to cancel this special reward? Note: If this special reward is canceled, the System will consider it as Master forfeiting all future special rewards from this day forward. Yes/No."
Fang Chenyi, who had been about to select "Yes" without a second thought, recoiled in shock when he heard the second part of the System’s message. ’Holy shit, it plays dirty like that? Forfeit all future special rewards? Then how am I supposed to reach the pinnacle of my life? Am I really supposed to do it by collecting scrap for cash?’
’Fine, fine, an Oosawa Marya doll it is. Never mind, System.’
After saying that, Fang Chenyi picked up his woven bag and continued collecting scrap, completely ignoring the matter of the doll. Of course, he was thinking to himself that he’d just find a deserted spot later and toss the thing out.
He continued on his way, collecting as he went. Half an hour later, Fang Chenyi had practically looted the entire cabin area.
His phone had gone missing somewhere between the emergency landing and the fight with the pirates, so Fang Chenyi had no idea what his exact earnings for the day were. However, based on a rough estimate, it had to be at least three to five million.
Walking out of the last room at the end of the hall, he shook his head in resignation. He had hoped to find the pirates’ treasure trove and pick its contents clean for a massive windfall, but after searching the entire cabin, he hadn’t found a single valuable item. He couldn’t tell if these pirates were just dirt-poor or if they’d hidden all their previous loot back at their base.
He went up to the deck and told everyone that the cabins were secure and they could go find rooms to rest. The other survivors thanked Fang Chenyi profusely as they cautiously made their way inside.
Seeing everyone head into the cabins, Fang Chenyi prepared to return to the bridge. But just as he turned, he heard exclamations of surprise coming from inside:
"Hey, you know what? These pirates are pretty clean. Look how neat and tidy this room is."
"Yeah, this is the complete opposite of the dirty, messy pirate image I had in my head. I just took a look around, and not only the rooms, but even the hallways are spotless."
"Mm, that’s for sure. It’s just that these pirates seem a bit poor. There’s nothing in this room but a bed."
Listening to their discussion from behind, Fang Chenyi couldn’t help but purse his lips. ’Clean? Tidy?’ He scoffed internally. If he hadn’t done a "spring cleaning" for them, they’d probably rather stay on the deck than go inside.
Of course, being the type of person who does good deeds without seeking recognition, Fang Chenyi would never volunteer the fact that he had cleaned up for everyone.
Returning to the bridge, he saw Bai Menghan intently focused on steering the large ship. Fang Chenyi couldn’t help but marvel, ’This girl is a natural at everything she does!’
"Chairman, you’re back. How did it go? Did you find any fishing gear? I’ll arrange for people to start fishing right away."
Hearing Lü Dong’s voice, Fang Chenyi froze for a second, then scratched his nose in embarrassment. ’Damn it, I was so focused on collecting scrap that I completely forgot about that.’
The moment Lü Dong saw Fang Chenyi’s expression, he knew the man hadn’t found anything.
"These pirates make a living by robbing people, so of course they wouldn’t have fishing equipment. Chairman, why don’t I go down and check the situation in their galley? We only need to get through two meals. While you were gone, we received a notification from the command center. Southern Airlines has urgently dispatched a plane from Paris to the nearest airport. I’ve already discussed the route with Ms. Bai. At our current speed, we should be able to reach the nearest port by noon tomorrow. The rescue team will be waiting for us at the docks."
He lifted his wrist to check the time. 4:11 PM. Reaching the port by noon tomorrow was indeed excellent news.
He nodded and sent Lü Dong off to make the arrangements.
Fang Chenyi then took over from Bai Menghan.
"Menghan, there’s a bed over there. Go get some rest for a while."
...
For the rest of the night, Fang Chenyi insisted on piloting the ship himself, not letting Bai Menghan take over. It wasn’t until the next morning that he handed the helm back to her and went to get some rest.
When he opened his eyes again, the coastline was already visible in the distance.
Fang Chenyi was awakened by waves of cheering.
He stood up and looked at the faint outline of the coast, feeling a surge of emotion. In just one short day, he had experienced more than many people do in a lifetime.
"You can sleep a little longer, Chenyi. We’re still about an hour from the port."
He stood up, walked over, and gently brushed a stray hair from Bai Menghan’s face.
"I’m awake now. Come on, let’s pilot it together."
An hour later, the pirate ship finally docked at the shore. A rescue team, accompanied by medics, had been waiting and rushed aboard.
A little over two hours after that, Fang Chenyi, holding Bai Menghan’s hand, finally boarded a plane back to Huaxia with the rest of the Flight 9527 survivors.
Perhaps because they had all just been through several life-or-death situations, everyone on the plane remained silent.
In the first-class cabin, Fang Chenyi looked out at the clouds with a deep sigh.
"Sigh... Menghan, you don’t think we’ll run into another engine fire this time, do you?"
"Hey, don’t say that! Don’t jinx it!"
Bai Menghan shot Fang Chenyi an annoyed look before chiding him coquettishly.
"Can’t you say something nice for a change? All right, we’ve been exhausted for so long. Let’s get some rest. If we sleep now, we’ll arrive in Jingcheng around eight tonight."
Hearing Bai Menghan’s words, Fang Chenyi’s lips curved into a wicked grin. He got up, locked the door to their first-class cabin, switched the sign to "Do Not Disturb," and started rubbing his hands together as he walked toward her.
"Heh heh... Menghan, I just thought of an idiom. I wonder if you’ve heard it?"
Bai Menghan blinked. "An idiom? What idiom?"
"’A thousand miles in a day.’"
