Resurrection Empire
Chapter 1229 - 468: Shadow Under the Strong Light (Part 3)
Ding Canghai finally saw a clear image. A pebble the size of a finger was falling straight down when it suddenly changed direction and snapped toward the front.
In the next ten-thousandth of a second, the Armor Crystal Chip computed a new AR simulation, depicting a curve descending from top to bottom. The optical lens swiftly tracked down along this curve.
Finally, with the assistance of his high-intensity illuminator and automated data calculation of the chip, Ding Canghai spotted a shadow about one hundred and fifty meters away rushing straight toward him.
This shadow wasn't big, approximately two and a half meters tall, slender, and extremely fast.
Even in the complex terrain of this narrow canyon, requiring constant directional changes to avoid jagged protruding rocks, the opponent maintained at least a Mach 1 speed.
In that instant, several concepts, which even Ding Canghai had not fully grasped, flashed through his mind.
Firstly, he confirmed one thing.
There were not just one enemy combat units on star C1915, but likely two. One destroyed the military command center base station and was heading toward the ground station where Xiao Wang was stationed, and the other was right in front of him.
Various means, including data stream scanning and electromagnetic radar scanning, indeed could not detect these enemies. Only light, and it had to be fully omnidirectional visible light perceivable by human eyes, could vaguely capture their form.
But even this was very strenuous, as the visible light variations caused by their movement through space nearly blend with the cosmic background light, making them tremendously hard to discern.
In space, this is an incredibly powerful camouflage, virtually invincible.
This is because all reconnaissance ships, to avoid being detected by enemies, could not keep the illuminators on at all times to try to reveal the enemy; doing so would only expose their own presence.
The reason why other reconnaissance ships were silently approached and destroyed before was found.
Lastly, I am the Army Chief of the Third Reconnaissance Army. Since I haven't died yet, it means the Third Reconnaissance Army hasn't been entirely annihilated, still retained its structure, and the mission hasn't completely failed.
As long as the medium-sized radio station can transmit all the information I now see, my Third Army would have accomplished the mission!
All these lightning-fast thoughts flashed through Ding Canghai's mind in mere moments and then rapidly fell silent. He was already in full combat mode, all his hairs standing on end.
The Tracking Bombs that he had previously placed on nearby vertical rock walls did not fly out. Instead, they detonated automatically under the control of preset programs.
Just as one of these Tracking Bombs detonated, the shadow had just passed over it.
The shadow was fast, but the expansion speed of the explosion shockwave was faster, instantaneously spreading at a thousand times the speed of sound in a vacuum, rapidly catching up to the shadow and enveloping it.
The intense shockwave continued expanding, and it charged straight toward the position where Ding Canghai stood.
But Ding Canghai did not dodge. Instead, he raised his right arm and fired a shot from his Arm Armor's high-power energy sniper rifle toward an oblique angle above.
He didn't aim at the shadow's position but slightly off.
Because the Armored Chip, based on the speed calculated when the small rock was struck and deflected, had roughly computed the shadow's mass and velocity. Based on the shadow's shape, it calculated its side profile area, and also calculated the impact force the Tracking Bomb explosion shockwave would inflict on it, ultimately predicting the travel direction after it was hit, with an accuracy exceeding 99.5%.
0.1 seconds later, another flash of light sparked in the shockwave fire, indicating that Ding Canghai's shot hit the target.
But he had no time to celebrate, as in the very next second, the shadow fiercely charged out from an uncalculated direction and harshly collided multiple times against the nearby rock wall, drawing a zigzag line in mid-air like a reflection of light, continuing its rush forward.
On the visual panel, Ding Canghai could only see the ceiling's rock wall explosively shattering again and again, unable to keep up with the speed visually.
Judging by the zigzagging direction, he realized its target was the medium-sized radio station!
Danger!
Without needing any action from Ding Canghai, the automatic guns mounted on the shoulders, legs, and back of his Sniper Armor had already opened fire in advance, linking hundreds of bullets per second into a line of fire, weaving a dense network of firepower in front of Ding Canghai.
But this shadow not only had terrifying mobility but also excessively exaggerated defensive capabilities.
