Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love
Chapter 545 - 543: This child, why does he look so familiar to me?
She seemed like a doll that was about to have its life force sucked out.
No wonder Jiang Wei, who always presented herself as a strong woman, was at a loss.
If it were his own daughter, he would certainly be no less upset than Jiang Wei.
By now, Jiang Sisi had realized who the visitors were.
"Brother Xue Yang, you finally came to see Sisi. Sister Lin Xi, you came too."
Although she was crying, she didn’t forget Lin Xi and greeted them with a tearful smile. However, likely because she had cried for so long and had a cold, her voice was hoarse and unpleasant.
Lin Xi sat on the edge of the bed and lovingly took the little girl’s hand, which was still tender from her IV.
"Yes, I’m here to see you, Sisi. Are you feeling better now?"
Jiang Sisi nodded obediently.
"I just have a bit of a cough and a headache sometimes. By the way, Brother Xue Yang, where’s my mom? I haven’t seen her all day."
The main reason she had been causing such a fuss was that she missed her mother. She managed to endure it during the day. Once night fell, however, and she couldn’t see any familiar faces, she just couldn’t hold back anymore. Furthermore, no matter how much she acted up, her mother didn’t come, which only deepened the little girl’s fear.
This led to the scene that Xue Yang and Lin Xi witnessed when they entered the room.
Xue Yang gently stroked her head and said, "Your mom is away on a business trip for a couple of days and can’t come see you, so she asked us to visit. Are you hungry? Would you like some porridge?"
Jiang Wei had mentioned that she hadn’t told Sisi about her grandmother being sick yet. She was worried that if Jiang Sisi found out, she would clamor to go and see her grandmother. At that point, it would be even more difficult to decide who to take care of. So, Xue Yang didn’t mention it to her either. It was a kind, little white lie.
Jiang Sisi nodded. "Okay."
Xue Yang brought the porridge over. He felt the bowl with his palm—it was still warm—and then picked up the spoon, feeding her one small spoonful at a time. Jiang Sisi must have been truly hungry. She ate one bite after another and quickly finished the entire bowl.
Lin Xi watched as Xue Yang patiently scooped spoonful after spoonful to feed Jiang Sisi. She had seen Xue Yang cooking. She had seen him working intently. She had also seen him acting like a child. Each side of him was different, and she liked every single one.
Now, seeing this version of Xue Yang, so attentively caring for a child, stirred a different feeling in Lin Xi. It made her think that if he were a father, he would be even more patient.
At this thought, Lin Xi’s face suddenly flushed and her heart began to race.
Lin Xi, oh Lin Xi, how can you be thinking about this already?
By the time Jiang Sisi fell asleep, an hour had already passed.
Looking at her familiar, sleeping face, Xue Yang took a photo and sent it to Jiang Wei to reassure her. He soon received a grateful reply. Xue Yang told her not to worry about things here and to focus on waiting for her mother to come through safely.
Jiang Wei thanked him again and said that once this was all over, she was determined to treat them to a meal.
Xue Yang accepted.
He put his phone away and neatly tucked in the corner of Jiang Sisi’s blanket.
"I can’t believe it. We don’t even have children yet, but we’re already getting a taste of the trials of being parents," Lin Xi couldn’t help but remark.
Caring for a sick child was hard enough, but Jiang Wei also had to look after an ailing parent. One could only imagine how much harder that made things. It was adding one difficulty on top of another.
"Don’t worry," Xue Yang said. "When we have children, I definitely won’t let you face such hardship alone."
Lin Xi naturally believed him.
"Xue Yang, do you think our future child will be as cute as Sisi?"
"Of course. Even cuter."
"But... I can’t shake the feeling that Sisi looks familiar."
Lin Xi carefully studied Jiang Sisi’s little face. The girl didn’t actually resemble Jiang Wei very much; she probably took after her father more.
"Hmm? Like who?" Xue Yang asked casually.
He wasn’t interested in Jiang Wei’s romantic life. However, if Lin Xi knew something, he wouldn’t mind hearing about it.
"I can’t quite put my finger on it," Lin Xi said. "She just seems familiar, that’s all."
Lin Xi had only mentioned it in passing and soon put the thought out of her mind.
Jiang Sisi’s VIP hospital room was configured like a small apartment, equipped with its own companion bed and a private restroom. Therefore, it wasn’t inconvenient for Xue Yang and Lin Xi to stay there. Furthermore, Jiang Sisi’s condition had stabilized. She was almost ready for discharge and only needed one check-up during the night. Aside from not being in their own home, Xue Yang and Lin Xi didn’t find it too difficult.
The next day, Xue Yang rose early, gave Lin Xi a few instructions, and then left for the office. Lin Xi stayed behind to continue looking after Jiang Sisi.
Perhaps because she was exhausted from the previous day’s tantrum, Jiang Sisi slept especially soundly. She didn’t even stir when Xue Yang got up and left.
After Xue Yang left, Lin Xi lay down again and went back to sleep for a while.
By the time she woke again, it was already past ten o’clock.
Jiang Sisi was still sound asleep.
Lin Xi placed a hand on her forehead. Her temperature was normal. The doctor had already done his rounds that morning and said everything was fine. She could be discharged in a day or two.
Lin Xi breathed a sigh of relief.
Just then, she got a call from Auntie Shen.
"Miss, it’s the weekend. Will you and Young Master Xue be returning to the villa?"
Auntie Shen had expected Lin Xi and Xue Yang to return to the villa the previous night, but they never came back. She waited all morning, and when there was still no sign of them after ten o’clock, she couldn’t hold back any longer and called to ask.
"Auntie Shen, I’m at the hospital right now. We won’t be back this week."
"At the hospital? Miss, are you feeling unwell?" Auntie Shen immediately asked, her voice laced with concern.
"No, not me. The daughter of one of Xue Yang’s friends is sick. The mother is too busy to look after her and doesn’t trust outsiders, so she asked us to help out at the hospital. The little one should be discharged tomorrow."
"It’s good that it’s nothing serious. Miss, which hospital are you at? Let me come and take over for you."
The young miss has never taken care of anyone before. She must be completely overwhelmed at the hospital by herself.
"That’s not necessary, I’m managing just fine."
"I happen to be making some soup and other dishes. I’ll bring them over. A sick person needs proper nourishment to recover."
Lin Xi glanced at the thin frame of Jiang Sisi and nodded in agreement.
About an hour later, Auntie Shen arrived.
Jiang Sisi was still sleeping.
When Auntie Shen saw the child’s face, she too froze for a moment.
"Miss, this child..."
"You think she looks familiar too, don’t you, Auntie Shen? I told Xue Yang the same thing last night. I can’t place her, though. Do you know who she looks like?"
Hearing this, Auntie Shen quickly composed her expression. "I can’t recall either," she said to Lin Xi.
Lin Xi was slightly disappointed but didn’t press the matter.
It’s probably no one important, anyway. Besides, this is their private family business, so it’s better not to pry.
Her thoughts in disarray, Auntie Shen set out the food she had prepared for Lin Xi and told her to eat first.
