Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love
Chapter 498 - 496: Don’t Want You to Be Wronged
"Brother, are you really not going to invite Xue Yang over before the engagement? I have a lot of procedures that I need to confirm with him. Without even a rehearsal, we’re just going straight into it tomorrow. I’m worried things will get messy."
Lin Yinxue found it strange. Her brother had clearly already agreed to let Xiao Xi be with Xue Yang, and from his reaction, he even seemed quite satisfied with him. So why wouldn’t he let her go over the engagement procedures with the man in question? If something went wrong tomorrow, wouldn’t it be the Lin Family that ended up embarrassed? Although this engagement ceremony only included a few familiar families and they didn’t plan on publicizing any information, the guests were all influential people. If the Lin Family lost face, it would be awkward when they met again in the business world.
Lin Zhenhai said indifferently, "As a son-in-law of the Lin Family, if he can’t even handle a situation like this, how will he face greater challenges in the future?"
Lin Yinxue laughed in exasperation. "Come on, Brother, those are two completely different things. You’re not still sulking because someone ’stole’ your precious only daughter, are you?"
"I’m testing him."
Seeing her brother stubbornly denying it, Lin Yinxue couldn’t be bothered to expose his flimsy excuse. At worst, she would just call Xue Yang when she got back and send him the schedule. As for whether he could adapt tomorrow, well, that was up to him.
After Si Wen left, Lin Xi started a video call with Xue Yang. Just seeing him, as if he were right there by her side, made Lin Xi’s nervousness fade a little.
"Has Si Wen gone home?"
"She has."
Looking at the adorable girl on the screen, Xue Yang’s heart completely melted. Tomorrow, this beautiful person would officially be marked as his. Just the thought of it guaranteed a sleepless night for him.
"Go to sleep early tonight."
It didn’t matter if he didn’t sleep, but Xiao Xi needed a good night’s rest.
"But I can’t sleep," Lin Xi’s voice was soft and sweet, making his heart flutter.
"You’ll be exhausted tomorrow if you don’t sleep. Be good, and go to sleep early. I’ll watch over you until you fall asleep."
"Xue Yang..."
"Hmm?"
"Will you be nervous tomorrow?"
"Of course. It’s my first engagement; how could I not be nervous?"
Lin Xi pouted. "How many times do you plan on getting engaged?"
Xue Yang considered this for a few seconds before saying with a straight face, "If you’re willing, I wouldn’t mind getting engaged a few more times."
Hearing Xue Yang’s teasing, Lin Xi’s beautiful eyes curved into crescents. She looked incredibly cute.
"My aunt is back. She’s the one who organized the engagement ceremony."
"I know."
Lin Xi pursed her lips, but finally asked the question that was on her mind. "Xue Yang... Auntie... she didn’t go over tomorrow’s schedule with you, did she?"
She had only found out tonight that her aunt hadn’t contacted Xue Yang about the ceremony’s schedule. The moment she heard, she felt terribly upset. She had thought that with the engagement happening, her dad must have finally accepted Xue Yang. But apparently, he was still trying to cause trouble. Dad is so mean.
Xue Yang was taken aback for a moment. He hadn’t wanted to tell Lin Xi about this, worried she would overthink it. But she found out anyway.
"Yes, she did. Auntie sent me a detailed schedule. I’m just going to memorize it tonight, so tomorrow I can just follow the steps."
"You’re lying! I know Auntie didn’t contact you. I’m going to go ask her."
"Xiao Xi, don’t," Xue Yang said, stopping her.
"Why?"
"Don’t you think this is also a test for me from them? If you go to your aunt and cause a rift between you two, it will only make things more complicated."
Lin Xi wasn’t a fool. Hearing Xue Yang’s explanation, she immediately understood his concern.
"But this is so unfair to you! I don’t want you to be treated this way!"
Xue Yang was such a proud person, yet for her sake, he was willing to endure her family’s deliberate challenges. The thought was agonizing for Lin Xi. She bit her lip gently, her face filled with sorrow. Her long, slender eyelashes fluttered like the wings of a butterfly, a sight that tugged at one’s heartstrings.
"Don’t worry, it will be fine," Xue Yang gently reassured her.
Lin Yinxue came out of the study and passed by Lin Xi’s room on her way back to her own. She was about to walk past but paused for a moment before knocking gently on the door.
Hearing the knock, Lin Xi ended her call with Xue Yang and opened the door. She was startled to see who was standing there. "Auntie?"
Lin Yinxue smiled softly at her. "Still up this late?" She was very fond of her niece.
"I can’t sleep."
"Can’t sleep because you’re thinking about your fiancé?"
Lin Xi’s pretty face flushed slightly. "Auntie, you’re teasing me!"
Lin Yinxue crossed her arms and walked in. Come to think of it, she was the one who had designed Lin Xi’s room. All these years later, it still looked wonderful. She sat on a stool and said, "You were just on the phone with your Xue Yang, weren’t you?" 𝑓𝑟ℯ𝘦𝓌𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝑐ℴ𝓂
Lin Xi admitted openly, "Yes."
"Can you tell me about the two of you? I feel sorry for myself, you know. I’ve never had a real relationship," Lin Yinxue said with a hint of sorrow.
Her current husband was the result of a family-arranged marriage. To put it bluntly, there was no love between them. They lived separate lives, never interfering with one another. A more generous description would be that they treated each other with polite distance, as if they were merely guests. But only she knew the true bitterness of their arrangement.
That was why, when she learned Lin Xi had chosen her own partner, Lin Yinxue had immediately flown back from abroad. She wanted to help make this engagement ceremony perfect and glorious. After returning, she had also looked into Xue Yang’s character, and the results were very satisfying. The only potential issue was that he had been in love with someone else for six years. They say that when an ex-flame cries, the current partner is bound to lose. After mulling it over, Lin Yinxue decided it was best to ask Lin Xi for her thoughts first.
Lin Xi told her aunt the story of how she and Xue Yang met and how their relationship became official. When she spoke about Xue Yang, Lin Xi’s eyes lit up. She would occasionally bite her lip shyly, her gaze filled with unmistakable love and adoration. Her cheeks were faintly pink, and her smile was gentle and innocent. She seemed to be enveloped in a soft, warm glow, and anyone who saw her would feel genuinely happy for her.
Seeing Lin Xi this way, Lin Yinxue knew her niece was truly in love with Xue Yang. It was a love so deep she would face anything for it, even if it meant utter ruin. Even if, one day, he really did go back to Bai Guangyue, the woman he had loved for six years.
Lin Yinxue gently stroked Lin Xi’s hair and finally asked, "Xiao Xi, does it bother you that he loved someone else before?"
"I wasn’t a part of his past, so I have no say in who he liked back then. But I will be by his side in the future, and we will spend the rest of our lives together."
