Chapter 316: Flying

As Adam speeds through the final turn and enters the last straight run, he goes all in, pushing the car’s limit to its absolute so that he can let it fly.

The engine screams like never before, and the vibration- Adam can feel it in his entire body.

The g-force intensifies, gluing Adam to his seat. Adam takes a deep breath as his brain enters hyper focus mode; his arm relaxes, but his grip on the steering wheel is as steady as it can be.

The car is at its highest gear, while the rpm meter is reaching its redline, the car’s speed is reaching its limits too. In this moment, Adam enters a zone of absolute clarity.

Everything around him goes absolutely silent; his breathing becomes absolutely steady as if he just tapped into the very rhythm of the universe. It’s not just his breathing; everything in his body enters this state.

His heart beat, his blood flow, his entire nervous system, the electric signals inside it. A deep state of high order that he has never experienced before, because he has never pushed himself to such a state before.

This is the first time, as it is being demanded of him by the circumstance itself. He is driving a juiced-up hyper-car that’s been further tuned to derive even more power and speed out of it. If Adam isn’t at his best, he is going to wreck it along with him inside it.

But as Adam pushes himself into this higher state, he doesn’t realize that no human has ever been here before and never will be.

The car just cut through the air, like a knife through butter, with no intention of slowing down.

Danny, Ben, Dante, and his team all stare at the screen as the stratosurge zooms through a finishing line and a time flashes on the lap timer - 7:05:01.

For a second, there is complete silence, and then everyone bursts into a loud cheer. When these people were called here to work on a Stratosurge as a rich kid wanted to test his toy out, all of them were reluctant, but the money promised was too good to give up.

So they all packed their bags with all the essential needs and got their ass here, at least some of them were excited to work on a Stratosurge, as it’s one of those cars everyone dreams of having but no one can ever afford.

Only for them to be disappointed again when they saw that the one who would be doing the driving is a young, no-name kid, a friend of the billionaire kid, but now, as they look back at their own feelings, all they can think of is how blind they were.

Never did they expect this kid, who has no name or game in the racing industry, would actually set a lap time record in the Eylendra Apex circuit.

With a lap time of 7:05:01, it puts Adam in a very prestigious position, the fourth fastest person to ever drive a commercial car on this track.

Yes, with that time, Adam takes the top 4th position, right behind some of the most legendary names in racing history.

One might not think the timing set by Adam is a huge deal if compared to the actual fastest set records, but mind you that those records were set in custom cars that were specifically designed to race in such tracks.

And the drivers who set those records in those custom cars are also the very same drivers who set the commercial records as well.

Those drivers were hired by the car companies to set the record so that the car companies could use it as a form of advertisement.

What Adam just did is beat six of the very best drivers of this sport and snatched the 4th place all for himself.

"He did it! He actually fucking did it! Uncle Bed! Did you see that, Adam actually fucking did it! I fucking own one of the fastest driven cars in the Eylendra circuit!!!" Danny shouted with excitement, jumping around like a kid who had just been gifted his favorite toy that he had been desiring for years.

"I can see that, young master, your friend is very impressive," Ben says. Even the usual silent man who likes to keep his thoughts to himself had to admit that his young master’s friend is an exceptionally talented kid, someone who only comes once in a generation.

As everyone is talking loudly about Adam’s achievement and how they might have witnessed one of the best feats in driving history, one of them stopped and looked at the screen again and noticed something.

"Wait... Why is he not slowing down?" An engineer asked. His words got everyone’s attention, and they all turned their heads to look at the screen again. They saw Adam continuing to drive the car at the highest speed without showing any sign of slowing down.

"What is this kid doing?" Dante asked as he watched the screen with trembling eyes.

When he saw Adam actually finish his lap and secure 4th place, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Adam proved him wrong; he showed him something even an old veteran of the sport like him had never witnessed before.

A complete rookie, beating some of the very best drivers of the sport.

And just as he was about to calm down from the high he felt from seeing Adam achieve one of the best feats a driver could ever achieve, he saw Adam trying to do something even crazier.

The team of engineers runs out as they hear the sound of the Stratosurge getting close, and before they know it, they see a red blur just zoom past them, before the air hits their faces like a slap.

"He is going for another lap!" One of the engineers shouts from the inside, making the rest hurry back to stare at the screen.

Dante’s heart starts racing while beads of sweat form on his forehead. He sees the Stratosurge moving faster than ever.

"Kid! Can you hear me? Answer me!" Dante tries to communicate with Adam. He feels his heart in his throat as he sees Adam getting close to the very first corner.

At this speed, it feels like Adam’s going to crash, and Dante doesn’t want to see that. What Adam did today proved that he is a championship prospect, someone who can win every fucking race in the world with a proper team behind him, and it would be very sad to see such an amazing prospect die without having a career in this sport.

As Dante tries his best to communicate with Adam, he notices something. He hears Adam’s breathing through the intercom. He stops talking and starts listening. Adam’s breathing is extremely stable.

Dante turns to look at Adam’s body monitor. The suit he is wearing monitors everything: his heart rate, core temperature, and blood oxygen level. Every reading looks good. In fact, too good.

His heart rate is a steady 56-60, his blood oxygen level is 99 to 100, his core temperature is normal; these readings are not of a man who is going at over 400 KMPH. It’s like Adam’s relaxing on a couch watching a slice-of-life TV show. 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

Dante looks at the screen again, and this time he notices something he didn’t notice before. His eyes flicker, he holds his breath, his heart pumps fast and hard.

What he sees is not a kid recklessly driving a car at its fastest; no, he sees a car not driving, but flying, flying through the air with no restrictions.

He sees the car slowing down as Adam gets closer to the turn. He sees the car enter the turn at the fastest possible speed at a perfect angle, hitting that perfect apex, then exiting the turn at the fastest possible speed as well, no wasted time, no wasted speed; it was perfect.

But it’s not just the first turn, every corner, the very same result, the hard zig-zags, the long snake-like curves, Adam attacks all of them to perfection at the highest speed the car can handle.

This is only achievable when the driver has a complete understanding of the car and the track he is driving on.

What Dante is looking at right now is the very peak of motorsport driving, something that’s so profoundly rare that it’s hard to come across even at the very highest level of this sport.

Dante’s world freezes; all the noise that can distract him from seeing Adam drive is cut off.

Back in the car, Adam continues to exist in his heightened state; there is nothing that can distract him from his goal.

All he sees is the road up ahead. He is so hyper-focused that he doesn’t even see the car he is sitting in; he is so hyper-focused that he can feel even the slightest shift in texture of the gravel underneath the tyres. He is so hyper-focused that he feels as if the car doesn’t exist at all, and it’s only his body moving through an invisible vacuum.

The world should be just disappearing from his sight with how fast he is going, but it’s not; everything looks slow to him, as if the world itself slowed down to make sure he sees everything.

In this state, nothing can stop him; every corner is attacked with perfection, every straight the car reaches its top speed, and just like that, Adam zips through the finishing line, completing his last lap.

Even without looking at the timer, he knows he crushed it.
