Reborn for Revenge: I Married A Billionaire
Chapter 33- The Land
It seemed like tomorrow. Sienna always thought that she could fix Tom. Silence could calm him. She never asked for Tom’s help, never shared anything with him. There was no emotional compatibility in their relationship.
He hated sweets, and she quit. She made herself small to fit into his world. And now she realized that she was grateful just for getting the basics from him.
She cut off her friends after Lina’s death, always dressed to avoid attention. She let Tom handle money, started covering for him in public, apologizing quickly, asking for permission, explained herself too much.
When Ruby started living with them, she started hiding the abuse. She thought he was doing her a favor by not beating her in front of her sister. However, the verbal abuse continued.
The only smart thing she did was to observe her ex-husband’s life. What he used to plan, what he wanted to buy, and in what projects he wanted to invest.
But now Sienna wanted to take advantage of all the information she had.
This morning, she didn’t get enough time to eat because she needed to be in the office before nine.
An early meeting was scheduled with a potential investor, and she didn’t want to leave that opportunity.
The moment she stepped into her office, she stopped dead short. A sixty-five-inch LED TV screen was mounted on the wall.
"Th...this..." She looked at it in confusion.
"Like it?" Nora’s mean voice appeared behind her, "Hunter arranged it!"
With one brow raised, Sienna slowly turned and glared at her. Nora giggled nervously and then cleared her throat, "I mean...mister Hunter... he asked Derek..."
Ignoring her, Sienna took her seat and turned her wrist to check the time. The investor was still not here, and she could feel a knot tightening in the pit of her stomach.
What if he decides not to show up at all?
She thought with a sinking heart. No! She needed to stay positive about this.
"Where is Hunter?" She asked Nora who was placing a mineral water bottle on the desk. She couldn’t meet her husband this morning and needed some moral support from him.
Someone who could tell her that everything would be alright.
"He’s your husband. Didn’t you meet him at home?" Nora giggled, but then it vanished as soon as she saw Sienna’s poker face. However, the receptionist didn’t leave.
"Umm... Ms. Sienna..." A small smile appeared on Nora’s lips, "Finn was here... this morning..." The secretary who used to be mean to Sienna was now looking for suitable words.
"Finn?" Sienna frowned and looked up from the file, "What was he doing here? Where was Peter?"
Nora just shrugged. She was standing there as if she wanted to say something, but then decided against it.
When she left the office, Sienna dropped her head on the file placed before her. She didn’t know how many battles she needed to fight to keep this office running.
They were running short on time, and still the investor hadn’t shown up.
"Where are you?" She asked herself, annoyingly, and then started dialing Hunter’s number on her phone.
It rang a few times and then got disconnected.
"What’s the use of paying him a good salary when he can’t be here on time?" She slapped the phone on the desk and leaned back into her seat.
"Hey, sugar," the door to her office opened suddenly, and he came inside holding a brown paper bag.
"Where were you?" Her voice rose a bit, "You are the highest paid person in this office, yet look at you..." Hunter didn’t move for a moment, "This is because of your lack of seriousness, Hunter, that you could never secure a decent job."
She regretted it right after saying it.
"Relax, sugar," Suddenly, he was smiling ear to ear and didn’t seem the least bit offended. He placed the bag before her, "Chocolate croissants. Don’t skip your breakfast next time. I’ve been trying to contact the investor, but he isn’t responding. Might be stuck in traffic. Don’t worry. He’ll be here soon."
He placed his laptop on the desk and took the seat across from her. She saw him opening his laptop and typing something.
Her eyes traveled to his arms, where his shirt sleeves were rolled up a little. How can he even look at the laptop screen with those dark shades?
"Menace?" His amused voice reached her ears, "Still guessing my eye color?" He asked her without even raising his gaze, "Eat the croissant before the meeting starts."
This time, Sienna didn’t hold back the smile and got herself busy with her file. After a few minutes, when her phone started ringing, she answered and switched the speaker on, "Sienna Mason speaking?"
The hand on her file froze for a moment when she heard the man on the other side, "Ms. Mason? I’m sorry for not making it today..."
Several lines creased Sienna’s forehead. The call was giving her all the wrong signals. Even Hunter seemed to sense it because he had already stopped working on his laptop.
"Mr. Wamiq..." Sienna tried to keep her tone light, "We were waiting for you..."
Goodness. She didn’t want to sound desperate, but she needed this man so badly. Her fingers tightened around the pen she was holding when she felt the tension in his voice.
"Ms. Mason... actually... I would have loved to do business with you... but..."
"But?" Sienna tried to keep the disappointment out of her voice.
"I’m sorry, Ms. Mason, but I won’t lie. I’ve got a better option to invest. Star Realty and Projects is offering me a good return."
That low-life man...
Tom Blackwell was doing everything in his power to tear her business down.
Mr. Wamiq was still rambling on with his stupid explanations when Sienna silently disconnected the call. She picked up the remote and increased the volume of the new LED TV, where a news channel was telling about an abandoned property.
Sienna’s heart skipped a beat. She knew that land. In her past life, she remembered how Tom had bought it for next to nothing ... and later the same land had turned into a gold mine for him.
This single purchase made him richer overnight.
"Sugar..." Hunter was calling her name worriedly, "It’s okay. I’m still talking to some people, and I’m sure they will respond."
Sienna didn’t listen to a word he was uttering.
"Hunter!" She whispered and pointed towards the TV screen like a baby.
"Yes, Sienna?" It was very rare for him to call her by her name.
"This land...Can we buy it, Hunter? Can you convince the investor ASAP? We can’t let this land slip away ..."
Hunter narrowed his eyes. Sienna didn’t make any effort to hide the rare urgency in her voice.
With deep thinking lines, Hunter picked up his phone and made a call.
