Chapter 1313: Humiliation at the Gate ( 1313 )

Beastkin Nation.

Eastern Border.

The two pekko-drawn carriages arrived a few minutes later, stopping abruptly near the fruit cart the guards had prepared. The sudden halt sent Gorak and his party, as well as Jaigar and his party, crashing forward into the carriage walls, their bodies slamming against the seats and the front panels.

Groans and curses echoed from within. One of Jaigar’s girls stumbled out, clutching her stomach before leaning over and vomiting onto the ground. Another staggered out, holding her head, her face pale. Gorak’s girls stumbled out after her, looking dazed and disoriented

Gorak stumbled out of the carriage, his face pale and his legs unsteady. "What... what was that?! Are you trying to kill us?!"

Javier, sitting casually on Buddy, did his best to hide his smirk, tilting his head with an exaggerated innocent expression.

"Huh? What’s wrong? I thought the mighty archer said he could handle anything? Guess the ride was a little too rough for you, huh?"

Gorak shot him a venomous glare, his hand twitching toward his bow. But before he could respond, both pekko turned their heads, glancing at the people stumbling out of the carriages. They let out low, rumbling squawks, their beaks curving into mocking smirks before they turned back to the fruit cart and began helping themselves to the remaining fruits.

Javier clapped his hands twice and glanced at Gorak and his party, along with Jaigar.

"Alright, everyone! Back to the carriages! Your documents are already being processed and cleared. Chop, chop!"

Gorak gritted his jaw, his hand twitching toward his bow again, but he stopped when he noticed the beastkin-like people watching them with serious, unyielding expressions. A few of the guards stepped forward, their hands gripping their weapons.

"You should head back inside your carriage," one of the guards said, his tone firm. "Your documents lack the proper seals, and since your destination is Armand, you shouldn’t stop here or cause a scene at the gate."

Gorak gritted his jaw again, glaring at everyone but unable to act, remembering his mission. He let out an arrogant scoff. "You should treat travelers from other nations with respect. This is no way to welcome visitors."

Before the guard could respond, Javier scratched his cheek with a sheepish, innocent grin. "Ah... well... actually, they don’t really have an obligation to treat us with any special treatment. Since, well... err... we’re just passing through, and we don’t exactly have proper travel documents? Ehehehe..."

"Wh... what?" Gorak’s eyes widened.

"Hey, my job is to bring you to Armand, right? And you all were in such a rush... so, err... let’s just say I didn’t exactly prepare the full travel documents? Ehehehe..."

Jaigar, who had been listening, narrowed his eyes and clenched his fists. "We already paid you a good sum for this."

"Wo, wo, wo! Chill! If we had waited for all the proper paperwork, it would have taken a few more days just to get everything sorted. And you said you were in a hurry, right?"

"At least let us rest a while before we continue," Gorak said, turning to the guards.

"No." The guard’s voice was firm as he tapped his spear against the ground. He pointed toward the long line of people waiting behind them. "These people have been waiting in line. You’re all lucky that Beggar Jee is handling your arrangements. If not, there’s no way we would let any of you pass. Be grateful. Beggar Jee is known to the Beastkin folk, and we’re doing him a favor."

"Ugh! Fine!" Gorak shot a venomous glare at the beggar sitting atop the huge orange pekko, who was rubbing the back of his head with a sheepish grin.

"Don’t you dare use full speed or pull any tricks like that again," Gorak warned, his voice low and threatening.

"Yeah, yeah... don’t worry. I won’t." Javier waved a hand dismissively. "Now let’s go before the sky turns dark. The road gets unsafe at night, and we need to reach a rest stop before then."

Gorak glanced at Jaigar, who gave a subtle nod. Both of them looked at their party members before climbing back into the carriages, their expressions dark with frustration.

Once they all climbed into the carriages, Javier grinned and gave the guard a playful salute.

"Thanks for the help~"

Buddy turned, let out a loud squawk, and grinned with his beak before striding forward.

"Alright! On to the next destination!"

"Cuquawked!!!"

The coachmen smiled and climbed onto their carriages, the pekko beginning to move at a slow, steady pace.

As they moved, Javier’s smirk deepened.

I’ll use that thing when we arrive at the arranged rest area. The Beastkin patrols should have already made sure the area is clear, ensuring no innocent people are nearby when we stop.

Once we get there, I’ll put the next phase of the plan into motion. And make sure my people stay safe.

He casually raised his hand, scratching the back of his head in a lazy motion, but his fingers subtly formed a quick hand signal, a pre-arranged gesture for the coachmen.

The two coachmen glanced at each other before smiling faintly, then turned their attention back to handling the pekko pulling the carriages, pretending not to have noticed a thing.

Meanwhile.

Inside the carriage.

Gorak gripped his blade tightly, his knuckles white as he carved a deep groove into the wooden handrest beside him. His jaw was clenched, his eyes burning with barely suppressed fury.

Valcrea leaned close and whispered in a low voice. "Leader..."

"Mm... I know." Gorak’s voice was tight, controlled. "But for now, we need to control ourselves. We can’t act yet. Not until we get the information we need."

Noji narrowed her eyes, her voice a venomous mutter. "This is the first time a lowly human and those animal-like races have looked down on us. Us, the chosen race. They treat us like we’re nothing."

Zume gritted her jaw, her hands trembling with rage. "Just you all wait. Once we get the information on Armand and send it back to Vane, and once the main invasion begins, these lowly races will feel my wrath. I’ll collect their heads as trophies. I’ll spit on their faces before I toy with them and kill them slowly."

Gorak let out a slow, controlled breath. "Mm... for now, we endure this humiliation. But soon, we’ll show these lowly lives what it truly means to be chosen."
