Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress
Chapter 614: Alwin’s Headache
The nobles would not be able to contradict this since Blanca was here as the Master of the Magic Tower’s fiance.
This was exactly why Blanca was introduced as Alwin’s guest at first. And now his fiance.
Blanca would not have a hard time in noble society with the power that the fiance of the Master of the Magic Tower holds.
If they had just introduced Blanca as someone they met for the first time in Safiro, the noble households would never agree to her becoming one of Arabella’s maids.
Formerly, the nobles feared sending a maid to the palace but now, they must have already begun their preparations when they heard that Renee died. They likely quickly thought of who would possibly replace her.
And thus, they would have prepared someone from their family to be sent if there was a selection just like Arabella did when she hired her assistants.
But this time, they would simply announce that Alwin recommended his fiancee so that it would look like Arabella had no choice but to agree.
After all, to the people of Valeria, Alwin was Ferdinand’s closest associate since they were almost always together. Even if Alwin’s face was never revealed, they knew the cloak he always wore.
’I should speak with Ferdinand about it announcing Blanca.’
Once her tea with Dimo was done, Arabella headed to her study to prepare the necessary documents for Blanca’s announcement and check on the most pressing issues she needed to address.
"Ah, thank goodness! She’s finally gone. I had been having more headaches ever since she came here," Alwin sighed in relief once they were in the Imperial Palace.
He massaged his temples as if he had a terrible headache.
"Haha. It’s nice to see you in distress about matters like this," Arabella teased.
"Ugh. Don’t even start with me. It’s so annoying when she keeps picking fights when I’m just telling her what she needs to correct," the elf walking behind her complained.
Arabella almost chuckled at how troubled he looked. However, she knew she needed to explain to him since it was clear that Alwin did not understand what was wrong with what he was doing. And he wasn’t really wrong either.
After all, Alwin was the type who was willing to learn. He would accept what needed to be accepted and would quickly work to correct what he was lacking or missing.
He was not the type to complain when he was corrected after he did something wrong. He would accept his mistake and profusely apologize since he had an insane sense of responsibility.
Perhaps that was also why he could not help but correct Blanca whenever she made the teeny tiniest bit of mistakes.
Alwin was observant so he would notice everything. And he was a perfectionist to the highest level since he was so capable.
He did not understand the struggle that came with every little action that he very easily learned and mastered.
It was not his fault that he was so excellent. Of course, it was his asset.
However, his perception of things could not align with someone who was also exceptional but not as exceptional as he was, especially someone so much younger who barely had any experiences of the world after a long hibernation.
Thus, he could not understand Blanca’s point of view.
If Arabella could not hear their thoughts, she wouldn’t have been able to understand them either since they do not usually voice what they truly wanted to say.
Alwin had simply changed in this life and had become so talkative and more open with her likely due to the secret they shared.
Arabella figured that Alwin was unconsciously worried about Blanca since if she made a mistake in front of other people, she could be in danger.
Moreover, Alwin was the Master of the Magic Tower so everyone living there was under his care.
If anything happened to Blanca, he could be the one taking responsibility for it. Especially since they were said to be engaged.
Thus, he was correcting every mistake he sees Blanca do because he did not want her to make those mistakes in front of other people.
But to Blanca, it seemed like he was simply trying to make it hard for her by picking out on everything she did.
"Alwin, I’m going to talk since you two don’t seem to understand each other," Arabella began and Alwin eyed her. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
When he did not complain, she continued.
"Blanca is still young.
She got trapped in a long sleep due to what happened to her and her parents so she hadn’t had the chance to enjoy her youth and experience things for herself.
She knows you are speaking the truth but she simply did not like hearing it from you.
Children and teens have a stage like this so let it pass for now," Arabella pointed out.
She explained that with Blanca sleeping for several hundred years when she should have been growing and learning things, she was focused on healing and barely communicated with anyone.
Esmeralda was the only one Blanca had and the former must have doted on the poor girl who was desperately trying to heal herself.
Thus, Blanca was not used to someone suddenly pointing out her mistakes whenever she made one.
"But it would be terrible if she becomes your maid and she makes mistakes in front of other nobles. They would surely find fault in her and find a way to kick her out," Alwin countered.
’See? He was worried indeed,’ Arabella smiled.
"That may also be true.
I understand your worries.
But please allow me and Head Maid to take care of teaching her and correcting her mistakes.
She is still a child so it’s alright to let her experience mistakes and get scolded and corrected by other people so she would learn by experience.
If you say everything to her, she would misinterpret that you are also just trying to find fault in her," Arabella clarified and Alwin was wide-eyed.
"I’m not trying to find fault in her," Alwin instantly said. He was shocked that his actions could be interpreted that way.
Sure he did tease her sometimes she often intentionally tried to annoy him as well. However, he was not correcting her mistakes just to find fault in her. He simply did not want her to make those mistakes and make trouble for herself.
"I know. But right now, she doesn’t understand that you were simply worried about her."
"I’m not worried about her!" Alwin instantly denied it. He was clearly worried bout her though.
He simply could not admit it honestly.
They were getting along when he just returned after he was gone for a while.
Blanca was also concerned about him but when he began correcting her out of worry, she misunderstood it because she did not understand why he always had to correct her.
"Not romantically, but as an Estrellian. I know you think she’s someone you need to take care of as part of your responsibilities and she’s under your tutelage since she’s in the Magic Tower," Arabella clarified.
". . ."
Alwin did not comment since it was true.
"Think about it, how would you have felt if, for instance, you were her, and I was you? And I point out every single mistake you make when I see you? Even if what I was saying was just a fact, how would you feel?" Arabella asked.
". . . " Alwin thought about it and grimaced.
[I... I’d hate it... I see... Is that how Blanca feels?!]
"Yes. It feels terrible to hear nothing but your mistakes.
Even if she knows she indeed made a mistake, it hurts to hear it.
She’s conscious she made a mistake there’s no need to point it out if she could figure it out herself.
When she repeatedly makes the same mistake and does not realize it, only then should we interfere and tell her.
Instead, praise her more often when she does something good and do not comment about what she does wrong unless necessary.
She will naturally strive to improve to hear more words of approval."
Arabella had to explain for a while more before Alwin conceded and agreed that he would try not to say anything regarding Blanca’s behavior.
In the end, he agreed to let Arabella and the Head Maid deal with it instead.
"Alright. Please take care of her then since she would be your maid anyway," Alwin acted like he was not saying it out of consideration for Blanca’s feelings but of pointing out that it was Arabella’s responsibility in the first place.
’Geez. He is like Ferdinand indeed. But at least Ferdinand is very much honest with his feelings now."
"Yes, yes. I hope that eases your headaches, Your Eminence," Arabella was the one who teased Alwin this time.
"Hopefully it does. If it doesn’t then, you must have been too lenient with her," Alwin added instead saying it in a better way that he wanted Blanca to learn about everything so she would not be bullied by the nobles.
"Yes, I will do my best. Now, stop brooding and let me work in peace."
