Reborn as a Landlord
Chapter 282 - 148: Buyer_1
"Brother Youheng, what’s the good news?" Lian Manman noticed the happy expression on Wang Youheng’s face, promptly set down her writing brush, and asked.
Wang Youheng smiled and handed the letter to Lian Manman.
After receiving the letter, Lian Manman carefully read it from start to finish. Many of the characters in the letter seemed familiar, yet she couldn’t be certain of their meaning. All she could confirm was that the letter was written by a friend of Wang Youheng’s, and it mentioned the purchase of grape wine.
"Brother Youheng, does someone want to buy our family’s grape wine?" Lian Manman’s eyes immediately lit up.
"Manman, can you understand it?" Wang Youheng seemed somewhat surprised.
"Oh, I don’t recognize many characters; I’m guessing," Lian Manman admitted somewhat embarrassedly.
The seventy jars of grape wine her family had made were already fermented. After filtering, they filled about fifty jars, roughly a thousand catties in total. Lian Manman had not been in a hurry to sell this large quantity of wine. Apart from sending a few catties for Zhang Qingshan to taste, she had also given some to Shopkeeper Wu, Woo Zhonglian, and Wang Youheng, mentioning that her family had plenty more and to look for her if anyone wished to buy.
It seemed Wang Youheng had taken the matter to heart and found her a buyer.
"Brother Youheng, please could you read it for me?" Lian Manman still wanted to know the specific contents of the letter, so she had no choice but to seek Wang Youheng’s help.
"If you find learning, writing tiresome, then in the future, whether it be letters or anything else, you can only rely on the help of others," Wang Youheng said as he took the letter, not immediately reading it but looking at Lian Manman.
"Oh." Lian Manman immediately realized that since she had only just learned to write and knew very few characters, how could she understand this letter? Wang Youheng knew this and, given he was a very considerate and attentive person, would normally explain the contents of the letter directly to Lian Manman instead of letting her read it herself.
Wang Youheng was doing this because of Lian Manman’s inadvertent complaint earlier, to make her realize the necessity of learning.
"Brother Youheng, I was just speaking casually. I will study hard," Lian Manman said earnestly.
Wang Youheng’s gaze met Lian Manman’s, and seeing her serious demeanor, he nodded.
"That’s good, I believe Manman will keep her word."
Wang Youheng then truly began to read the letter’s contents word by word to Lian Manman, while Lian Zhizhi and Xiao Qi, upon hearing that it was about selling grape wine, crowded around to listen.
"The buyer is the Shen Family?" As soon as Wang Youheng finished reading the letter, Lian Manman immediately asked.
"Yes, that’s what’s written in the letter," Wang Youheng confirmed with a nod.
"Which Shen Family?" Lian Manman asked another question.
"Naturally, it’s the Shen Family from Prefecture City, the one that includes Young Master Shen Liu," Wang Youheng explained.
Lian Manman had previously told Wang Youheng about her entanglement with Shen Liu, omitting the part about saving Shen Liu’s life in the mountains.
"Brother Youheng, it isn’t because Shen Liu wants to compensate us that he’s buying our family’s grape wine, is it?" Lian Manman pondered.
"It shouldn’t be." Wang Youheng thought for a moment then said, "I let my friend taste the grape wine you sent and simply said it was made by a family I knew, without mentioning your family. My friend then recommended the wine to the Shen Family, naturally also without mentioning your names. So, the Shen Family probably doesn’t know that the grape wine they want to buy is made by your family."
Wang Youheng’s reasoning made sense. Besides, her family’s grape wine, other than the villagers who saw them picking grapes in the mountains initially, they had been very low-profile about it. Even if someone had taken notice before, they would have almost forgotten in the past few months.
"Moreover, in the letter, my friend mentioned that he was in contact with Shen Family’s Fifth Son, which probably has nothing to do with Young Master Shen Liu," Wang Youheng added.
"Right," Lian Manman nodded.
"And besides, the last time Shen Family’s servants misbehaved, Young Master Shen Liu has already dealt with it. He wouldn’t be looking to compensate by buying your family’s grape wine," Wang Youheng said with a smile.
"That’s true." Lian Manman also smiled. Although Wang Youheng made that analysis due to being unaware of her lifesaving deed for Shen Liu, she believed that Youheng was right. Shen Liu did not seem to be the kind of person with a Bodhisattva’s heart, bestowing favors broadly; having agreed to let her make one request, he wouldn’t engage in superfluous actions.
"The letter says the Shen Family will send someone, likely within the next day or two. When the time comes, I’ll ask Shopkeeper Wang to accompany them to your house; you should be prepared," Wang Youheng said as he tucked away the letter.
"Yes," Lian Manman nodded with a smile, "the Shen Family, they are a major buyer. Brother Youheng, will one jar be enough for you?"
