Rebirth: I have Monopoly System
Chapter 47: Li Qiuliang Starts Work, Getting on the Right Track
Wu Yun’s strong internal clock woke him early, sometime between seven and eight in the morning.
In the dead of night, Wu Yun had received a system notification: the Goddess Collector medal had been unlocked, rewarding him with a mysterious gift box.
However, Wu Yun had been otherwise occupied at the time and hadn’t paid any attention to the system’s notification.
Waking up first thing in the morning, Wu Yun remembered the matter. He walked into the bathroom, summoned the system, opened the medal interface, and selected the Goddess Collector medal.
"Open the gift box?" the system prompted.
Wu Yun confirmed.
Congratulations, Host. You have been rewarded with a +2 increase in height.
Wu Yun pumped his fist in excitement. He’d been planning to increase his height for a while, but the plan had been put on hold for various reasons.
Getting the +2 height reward today was equivalent to saving four million.
In high spirits, Wu Yun had lunch at the hotel before buying each of the two women a handbag. When they parted ways, Wu Yun didn’t make any promises. After all, it was just a casual fling.
Sitting in the driver’s seat of the Big Black Bull, Wu Yun said to Zeng Siqi and Susan outside the window, "I’m heading back. I’ve got things to take care of at the company. Let’s keep in touch!"
Under the watchful eyes of a few onlookers, Wu Yun left the two bombshells behind and drove off alone.
The weekend flew by, with Wu Yun spending his days at work and his evenings exercising.
Early Monday morning, Li Qiuliang arrived with his laptop and checked in at the front desk. The receptionist, who had already been briefed, had him register his fingerprints before taking him to the HR manager’s office to sign his paperwork.
Sitting in his office, Li Qiuliang was very satisfied with the environment and the company’s atmosphere. Even though it was just a startup, he much preferred leading this kind of team—no cliques, everything a blank slate.
A knock came at the door, and the secretary, Wang Hao, walked in carrying a folder.
"President Li, these are the departmental rules and regulations that President Wu and the team put together over the last two days. Please take a look and see if any changes are needed. As for the general company policies, the administrative department is still drafting those."
"When President Wu gets here, he’d like you to stop by his office. Afterward, there will be an all-hands meeting in the conference room, where President Wu will introduce you to everyone."
Li Qiuliang nodded. "When is the meeting?"
"President Wu tentatively scheduled it for nine-thirty. He’s still on his way here now."
After speaking, Wang Hao left, pulling the door to the general manager’s office closed behind him.
...
Wu Yun honked his horn, warning the sedan ahead that was about to change lanes. The driver finally noticed the low-slung Big Black Bull, and in a panic, slammed on the brakes. Wu Yun shot past him in an instant.
Wu Yun had left Wu Ying and the other woman’s place at eight in the morning, only to get caught in the Monday rush hour. It instantly turned his Big Black Bull into an old ox, forced to crawl along with the flow of traffic.
This only strengthened Wu Yun’s resolve to buy a place outside the university.
By the time Wu Yun rushed to the office, it was already almost nine o’clock.
Wu Yun rushed into his office and said to Wang Hao just outside, "Have President Li come in!"
"President Wu!"
"Have a seat," Wu Yun said, gesturing to the chair in front of his desk.
Wu Yun got straight to the point. "President Li, you’ve looked over my plan for the initial and middle stages of the Little Red Car project, I presume?"
Li Qiuliang’s face was filled with admiration. "President Wu, you’re a genius. I can’t believe you came up with such a creative plan. Following this sharing concept, it won’t be long before our company becomes a unicorn."
Li Qiuliang had sharp business acumen. In Wu Yun’s previous life, Meituan’s acquisition of Mobike at a US$2.5 billion valuation was more than enough to demonstrate the enormous potential of bike-sharing.
Meanwhile, the other major player, OFO, wasn’t even willing to sell for US$3 billion. If Little Red Car could reach the scale of these two bike-sharing enterprises, Wu Yun would literally be laughing in his sleep.
Wu Yun had a head start this time around. He was confident he could outperform both of them, as he held the advantage in both timing and capital.
"President Li, my plan is for you to get things organized here in the next couple of days, then take a few employees to Modu to negotiate a contract with the Phoenix Bicycle Factory. The quantity of our shared bikes is the absolute top priority."
Li Qiuliang understood what Wu Yun was saying. To put it bluntly, the key to a bike-sharing company’s success was the bikes themselves. Without a fleet of bikes, everything else was just empty talk.
Wu Yun and Li Qiuliang chatted in the office for a little longer before they were interrupted by a knock from Wang Hao.
"President Wu, President Li, it’s time for the meeting. Just about everyone is here."
Wu Yun entered the main conference room first. He saw the forty or fifty people inside and felt all of their eyes fixed on him.
Many of them looked at this chairman, who was much younger than they were, and couldn’t help but think how different life is when you’re born lucky.
Wu Yun, however, showed no signs of stage fright. His experience lecturing in his past life, combined with his current confidence, allowed him to face large crowds with composure.
Seated at the head of the table, Wu Yun spoke into the microphone. "Today is Nirvana Technology’s first all-hands meeting. Although there are only a handful of us here, I believe this is just the beginning. Our team will only grow larger from here."
"Today, I’d first like to introduce President Li, Li Qiuliang! From now on, President Li will serve as the company’s General Manager. The company’s future decisions and development will all be in his hands. Now, let’s all welcome President Li!"
Thunderous applause erupted in the conference room. Li Qiuliang walked up to the podium and tapped the microphone. "Hello, everyone! First, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Li Qiuliang. I was previously..."
Just three days after the meeting, Li Qiuliang, along with two newly hired PR specialists and two administrative staff, boarded a plane to Modu.
Li Qiuliang thought about the design schematics for the shared bike that Wu Yun had given him, and his admiration for the young man grew even deeper.
Wu Yun had commissioned the schematics from a high-tech design firm at a steep price. For anyone in this era, the design was absolutely revolutionary.
From the brake pads and the frame to the seat springs, the design specifications guaranteed that no component would suffer damage or rust from exposure to the elements.
Furthermore, the tires were airless and puncture-proof, and the chain was concealed within the frame so it could never slip off.
The bicycle was also equipped with a smart lock that could connect to the internet. It could receive mobile network signals in real-time to communicate with the software backend, allowing it to receive unlock commands, report when it was locked, and provide its location.
The smart lock had two charging modes: one was a dynamo that generated power as the bike was ridden, and the other was a solar panel installed in the basket.
To make changing tires easier, the Little Red Car’s wheels were designed with large hubs and a single-sided axle mount, similar to some car wheels. A mechanic would only need a special tool to easily remove and replace the tire.
As Li Qiuliang looked over these designs, he was relieved that there was also a simplified version of the bike. Otherwise, he would have been extremely worried about the production costs. But then he recalled how extravagantly wealthy Wu Yun seemed, as well as the plan to have consumers foot the bill, and he felt it was all acceptable.
