Rebirth before Apocalypse: My Whole Family are Bigshots!
Chapter 436: Captain Zhu’s Choice
A bus that looked almost identical to the one the Bai Family used suddenly stopped in front of Zhang Yiming, and the bus door slowly opened.
"Brother Zhang, should we go now?"
Fan Tangtang’s timid voice came from the bus.
Zhang Yiming responded with a hum, glanced at the bus similar to the Bai Family’s one, and a gentle look flashed in his eyes. He stepped onto the bus.
The Xiao Song Zombie followed closely behind Zhang Yiming, stepping onto the bus with stiff movements.
Once inside the Bai Family’s bus, he saw various photos, very cozy, including some of Xiao Niu’s youthful pictures.
After boarding this similar bus, Zhang Yiming was greeted by some decaying and grotesque-looking faces.
They sat quietly in the back, neatly lined up.
Zhang Yiming could smell scents that weren’t just the flesh and blood of humans.
The scent of decay emanating from the Zombies in the air made Zhang Yiming frown slightly.
The Zombie in a suit had his hair neatly combed and sat with a serious demeanor, fingers placed on his legs.
No matter how serious, it was still a Zombie.
It wasn’t as cozy as the Bai Family’s bus.
The Zombie in the suit stared at Zhang Yiming’s frowning eyebrows with its decaying eyes, tilting its head as if contemplating something.
A minute later, its rotting finger pressed on the window, slowly opening a crack.
The fresh air outside blew at the neatly combed hair of the Zombie in a suit, as its sparse hair fluttered in the wind.
Zhang Yiming glanced at the Zombie in a suit and the neatly seated decaying faces in the back, his brows remained tightly knitted.
These were Zhang Yiming’s trusty subordinates, and when heading to Shanghai, he brought them all along.
After Zhang Yiming got onto the bus, he silently took a seat and slowly closed his eyes.
Zombies, too, could fantasize as long as they had consciousness.
Zhang Yiming fantasized that the person driving was not Fan Liping, but Bai Yifan.
That those seated behind him weren’t Zombies, but the Bai Family.
Seated beside him was Bai Xiqin.
Behind, left in the dust by him, wasn’t Old Tao, but Leng Yebai.
A smile appeared on his cool face, softening his entire demeanor.
Fan Liping saw Zhang Yiming was seated, floored the accelerator, and the bus sped toward Shanghai.
Not long after, having finished breakfast, the Bai Family also departed for Shanghai.
Captain Zhu’s heavy truck departed a night earlier than the Bai Family and Zhang Yiming.
By this time, Captain Zhu had already made considerable progress.
He had now stopped, no longer moving forward.
It wasn’t that he changed his mind and didn’t want to go to Shanghai anymore.
He was hungry.
The bloodthirsty urge rampaged through his mind, shouting relentlessly that it was time to eat.
Though Captain Zhu’s mind was twisted, he still had resistance to consuming human flesh and blood.
Even though the thought of human flesh made him salivate, he still resisted it, finding it too disgusting.
Once he had also caught an incredibly vile criminal suspect, a psychologically twisted pervert who liked to lure children home with candy and then eat their innards.
The case had disgusted Captain Zhu so much that he couldn’t eat for two days, only feeling that person was a Demon, utterly nauseating.
Now, he even wanted to ask that criminal how human flesh tasted...
He must be insane.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, Captain Zhu kept his fists clenched tightly, but couldn’t stop his eyes from looking outside.
He was searching for signs of humans.
His heart resisted, but his eyes unconsciously sought out prey.
Captain Zhu took a deep breath, but it didn’t ease the bloodthirsty urge in his mind.
He had already turned into a Zombie, with organs that were merely ornamental, incapable of utilizing oxygen.
Breathing wasn’t for taking in fresh air but for sensing the smell of flesh and blood, assisting in hunting humans.
Captain Zhu angrily pounded the steering wheel twice, causing it to deform.
The vehicle could no longer be driven.
Feeling even more irritable, Captain Zhu opened the door and got out of the vehicle.
He was in a sparsely inhabited town.
The Zombies in this town seemed to have been cleared out once, with few Zombies around. Walking down the road, he only encountered one or two Zombies with dull expressions.
Many such semi-abandoned towns existed, mostly cleared by superpower users from the base, with resources taken back to the safe zone by the superpower users.
Such towns weren’t particularly safe, nor were they places where Zombies appeared in droves.
Some ordinary people who couldn’t afford the "toll" to enter safe base areas would choose to stay in such places.
The task teams from nearby safe bases would sometimes rest in such towns.
With an icy gaze, Captain Zhu scanned the entire street, seemingly searching for something.
Those icy eyes were extremely cold, like those of a cold-blooded animal hunting.
The street was extremely desolate, with a few Zombies occasionally encountering Captain Zhu from afar and veering away.
The aura of the Zombie King deterred them from coming over to disturb Captain Zhu.
On the apocalyptic streets, after a full circle, no prey was found.
Captain Zhu breathed a sigh of relief, though his face still carried irritation.
Irritated by the lack of food, his stomach’s hunger was intensifying.
The relief stemmed from not having to devour flesh, becoming a true monster.
It wasn’t revisiting his conscience; killing, he could do, but consuming humans made him uncomfortable.
Psychologically, he still resisted it.
Instinctively, he still considered himself human.
Captain Zhu’s fingers clenched tightly together and he eventually walked to a seemingly usable car.
This car, battered by the elements on the street, had a dirty exterior with a few drops of black blood.
With a half-open window, Captain Zhu reached in and opened the car door.
No gas.
As expected.
Gasoline in the apocalypse was extremely precious, with the gas from the vehicles abandoned on the streets already siphoned by others.
"Bang!"
Captain Zhu got out of the car, slamming the door shut.
A more intense malevolence emanated from his eyes.
His mind swam with Zombie-like violent emotions.
The old him never became tyrannical over such minor matters, but now he could hardly control his emotions.
Captain Zhu aimlessly continued walking forward, eyes lingering on car after car.
All long-abandoned vehicles, he didn’t need to open the doors to know the gas was already siphoned out.
Suddenly, Captain Zhu’s gaze fell onto a white sedan.
The car was pristinely white, devoid of black Zombie blood or signs of weathering.
After handling cases for so many years, Captain Zhu could instantly tell from experience that someone had just brought this car over.
His throat involuntarily moved.
The bloodthirsty impulse was even more intense than a second ago.
Captain Zhu took a deep breath, squinting as he carefully scanned the surroundings once again.
He smelled a sweet fragrance.
This scent stimulated his taste buds, causing uncontrollable saliva to secrete in his mouth. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
It was the only scent he could detect.
For almost a full minute, Captain Zhu had no memory of what happened, and when he snapped out of it, he had already squeezed into the white sedan.
He didn’t even remember how he got inside.
His fingers clenched tightly together, trying to convince himself to leave, yet he still didn’t get out of the car.
He was waiting for the car’s owner to return.
