"Of course I can... Mom!"

Even though Amelia Linton had always been prejudiced against her and constantly picked on her, Lily Turner had never truly held any resentment against her in her heart, because no matter what this woman was like, she was still her husband’s mother.

She felt a little awkward calling her Mom, but in the end she still forced that "Mom" out.

"Aye!"

Hearing Lily call her that, Amelia answered happily, and after hesitating for a moment, she made a new request. "Can I touch your belly?"

Just thinking that inside that big belly might be her grandson or granddaughter, she was so excited, so thrilled. At this moment, she had completely forgotten that she had once suspected there was something wrong with the baby’s parentage.

"Of course you can, you’re the baby’s grandma." Seeing Amelia hovering with her hand, unsure if she should dare to touch, Lily directly took her hand and placed it on her own belly. "The baby started moving in the last two days."

She looked down at the hand touching her belly while happily talking to the owner of that hand.

Amelia was overjoyed and looked up at the baby’s mom. "Really? Is the baby moving a lot?"

The baby had already started to kick, and she had wasted so much time already. She couldn’t waste any more of it now. There were so many people she needed to make it up to: her elderly father, her son, and the woman beside her and the baby in her belly. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞

"It feels pretty strong, just not that frequent." As the baby’s mother, Lily’s sensations were very clear; the baby kicked with a lot of strength. She’d even been startled once by a particularly strong kick.

Hearing that, Amelia’s smile grew even brighter. "It’s good that the baby is strong, that proves our baby is healthy."

Our baby slipped right out of her mouth, and she didn’t feel the slightest bit awkward or uncomfortable saying it.

"Mom, you..."

Lily started to speak but stopped. The words reached her lips, then she swallowed them back, worried that saying them out loud might make Amelia unhappy.

Even though she hadn’t said the rest, Amelia knew what she wanted to say. Amelia reached out and held her hand. "Lily, this was all my fault before. I shouldn’t have doubted that the child in your belly was Easton’s. I’ll never do that again."

When she thought about what she had done before, she felt a deep regret in her heart—regret that she hadn’t trusted the girl sitting beside her, and even more regret that she hadn’t trusted her own son.

How could she have been so muddleheaded? The child in this girl’s belly was her own flesh-and-blood grandchild. She really felt like slapping herself twice.

"Mom..."

Lily suddenly choked up—overwhelmed, happy, delighted. She looked at Amelia, with so many things she wanted to say in her heart, yet for the moment she didn’t know where to begin.

Amelia used her hand to wipe away the tear hanging at the corner of Lily’s eye. Tilting her body a little, she reached out and wrapped an arm around Lily, who looked a bit overwrought. "Don’t be like this, it’s not good for the baby in your belly."

Emotional instability was the biggest taboo for a pregnant woman; she couldn’t afford to be careless. This pregnant woman was her son’s precious darling, and also her elderly father’s beloved granddaughter-in-law.

"Mom, I know."

Lily wiped away the tears rolling down her face with her hand and tilted her head to rest it on Amelia’s shoulder.

The mother-in-law and daughter-in-law hugging each other in the room didn’t notice Callix Linton standing at the doorway. Not long after Auntie Li had gone out, he had come to the room where Amelia and Lily were, quietly observing what was going on inside through the not-fully-closed crack in the door.

He hadn’t heard their conversation at the start, but he had seen everything that followed. Seeing the two of them like this, he couldn’t help lifting the corners of his lips in a pleased smile.
