Chapter 559: Chapter 559: He Came Looking

Chloe Reed asked Walker Grant for news about Iris Yates every day, but the answer was always the same.

She grew flustered and anxious, but there was nothing she could do.

All she could do was train relentlessly, pushing herself to become stronger.

One day, just after finishing her training, she stepped out of the elevator and saw a few people coming through the entrance.

Annie York was helping Chloe’s grandmother, and next to them was... Preston Vance?

’What is he doing here?’

Chloe Reed’s brows knitted together. She walked over and asked bluntly, "What are you doing here?"

Annie York explained, "Chloe, I was taking your grandmother for a walk when we ran into Mr. Vance. She started chatting with him, and then he brought us home."

Preston Vance adjusted his glasses. "Chloe," he said, "can we talk?"

A smile bloomed on her grandmother’s face. "Yes, talk! Have a good, long talk," she said cheerfully. "I’m tired, so I’m going to get some rest. You two take your time."

Chloe: "..."

As Annie York helped the grandmother to her room, she shot Chloe a helpless, bewildered look.

Chloe curved her lips into a small smile, letting her know it was fine.

Then, she turned to Preston Vance. "Let’s talk outside."

Outside Jardinelle, they walked along the side of the road. Preston Vance glanced at her and said, "You’ve changed a lot, Chloe."

Chloe’s expression was cold, her guard up. "I thought you wanted to talk," she said.

Preston Vance sighed. "I think there’s been some kind of misunderstanding between us. I didn’t understand what you meant during our last call, so I came here today to confirm things with you."

Hearing this, Chloe’s brows knitted together. She looked at him, her eyes turning cold. "Are you still playing dumb with me?"

Preston Vance held up his hands helplessly. "I’m genuinely confused."

"Fine. Since you insist on getting to the bottom of it, I’ll tell you why." Chloe decided to stop beating around the bush and told him exactly what had happened.

After a long moment, a flicker of anger appeared on Preston Vance’s face. "So that’s what happened."

Seeing this, Chloe frowned and subconsciously took a step back.

He saw her reaction and said, "Chloe, please believe me. I would never do anything to hurt you. Someone deliberately did this using my name. They’re trying to drive a wedge between us."

Chloe didn’t believe his story so easily. "If you say you’ve been framed, then show me evidence to prove your innocence."

She paused, then added, "If I’ve misjudged you, I will apologize for my attitude."

"There’s no need for an apology," Preston Vance said. "After all, I did frighten you. But I will definitely give you a proper explanation for this."

With that, he turned and left.

The incident happened the day Chloe came looking for him. ’So, what happened that day?’

Just as he left, his phone rang. His men had uncovered a few leads.

The look in Preston Vance’s eyes grew colder behind his lenses. "Find them," he said.

"Yes, sir."

Chloe watched his retreating figure, her brows furrowed.

’He didn’t seem like he was acting.’

’Could it be that I really misjudged him?’
