Otaku Witch
Chapter 1980 - 1008: Dragons and Humans
[Confirming player race faction...]
[Setting up the chessboard.....]
After confirming her choice, Dorothy’s consciousness was ejected from that chaotic world.
The homebody witch returned to reality, she blinked her eyes, and once again saw her sisters around, as well as the Dragon Witch of the Mountain across from her with her hand still on the chessboard.
"Teacher Guigu, why did you choose humans?"
At this moment, Estelle also regained her senses. She frowned slightly, and then asked with some confusion.
Humans, they are the weakest race on her war chessboard, and initially, humans were not even available as a player choice at all.
They were the resource species of this world.
Well, you could use them as living decorations to show a vibrant world, or as monsters to fight for level-ups, or recruit them as the servant army, cheap labor and whatnot.
In short, their status was lowly enough.
Oh well, in reality, humans are just about the same; as a Black Iron Race, they’re too mundane, even among all Black Iron Species, they are the most unremarkable.
After all, they have weaker reproduction ability than Goblins, less magic talent than Slimes, poorer physical attributes than Beastmen, and weaker mental strength than Specters. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
At first glance, they possess all three aspects—body, spirit, and mind—seemingly high-level, but in reality, all three are subpar, so mediocre they’re unbearable to look at.
Although this group of weak creatures always pride themselves as intelligent beings, boasting their cleverness, but in fact, from the perspective of the extraordinary species looking at mortals, it’s pretty much like humans looking at monkeys.
Well, their brains are really primitive, somewhat clever, but not very much.
After all, a race that doesn’t even have a magic command system in their brains can only rely on the genetic mutations of a few individuals in the population and can’t be really considered as possessing high-level wisdom.
Yes, a race that doesn’t even qualify to step into the Magic Hall can only be considered as slightly smarter monkeys; their wisdom is merely mortal level wisdom.
If you really want to find a merit for humans, it might just be their appearance, which is highly similar to higher races, and their terrifying adaptability.
After all, though everything about them is subpar, they are indeed somewhat proficient in everything, with no obvious shortcomings, so in whichever world, almost as long as it can satisfy the basic survival conditions for organisms, you will always see humans, just like the "cockroaches" of the world, their life force is frighteningly tenacious.
Therefore, sometimes some scholars believe that if the world was created by deities, then humans were crafted by deities as "statues" in their likeness, just like people use statue photos and things to decorate their rooms, deities use humans to adorn the world they created.
At least with human activity, those worlds won’t be too desolate.
And such decoration theory is recognized by most extraordinary species in the Western Universe, therefore, most of these extraordinary species don’t think highly of humans, after all, extraordinary species are the Children of God, the masters of the house, much more noble than mere decorations.
So, play as you wish, create as you like, humans are lower than weeds, if they’re messed up, they will just grow back by themselves after a while.
Of course, in the Witch World, mortals receive much better treatment, as witches are an evolved subspecies of humans, they are considered close relatives.
However, this kinship has gradually diluted with the evolution and reproduction of the Witch Clan and the seclusion of the primeval witches.
After all, visiting relatives is mostly favored by the elder generation, while the younger ones really don’t like it that much.....
No way, you can’t expect these newly born superhuman little witches to be close to humans, after all, they haven’t lived as humans like the primeval witches did; in the eyes of young little witches, witches and humans are indeed two different races, even if the Witch Clan originated from humans, but it’s a fact that they are now superior to humans.
However, generally speaking, because of that ancestral bond, witches are overall fairly friendly towards the mortal races.
Although Estelle is already thousands of years old, compared to the history of witches, she counts as a young witch from the new generation, towards this kin, humans, her attitude isn’t too fond, but not particularly dislike either.
Hence, she wouldn’t go about wantonly slaughtering humans without reason, but wouldn’t be kind enough to actively favor them either; she mostly remains indifferent.
The humans in her chessboard world were not placed there intentionally by her, but were natives that existed in the big world before she conquered it; when she later made this world into a war chessboard, she didn’t bother touching these mortals, after all, she felt that weak mortals weren’t even worthy as pieces in the war chess.
Yet, after she used this chessboard multiple times to play War Chess, in the situation where strong races would often start wars sweeping across the entire world, the humans in the chessboard world surprisingly managed to survive and not become extinct.
The nickname "world cockroaches" indeed wasn’t for nothing; their life force is truly strong.
Despite surviving such dire straits amidst continuous wars, humanity even birthed quite a number of hero units, and one day when Estelle was performing routine maintenance on this chessboard world, she was astonished to find the number of human heroes was enough to constitute a force of their own.
