Chapter 271: Shouldn’t Be Here (Ch.271)

A loud crash from within the hall of history drew Neveah out of her thoughts.

From where she sat on the ledge, Neveah glanced over her shoulder at the closed doors, her brows furrowed slightly.

’He is the only one in there, just what is he up to?’ Neveah wondered to herself.

It was ironic how just a moment ago, Neveah had been furious at the dragon king, but at this moment, all her anger had flitted away.

"Where is the King’s guard? At least one of them should be here with him." Neveah murmured to herself, wincing as another crash resonated from within the hall. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Neveah sat tight, contemplating if she could call someone over to calm the dragon king before the hall of history was demolished in the wake of his anger.

A quiet sigh escaped Neveah’s lips, she did not think anyone would dare approach the dragon king given his mood, there was no use calling on anyone.

’Even the King’s guard let him be by himself, we had best not get involved.’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her.

"Agreed." Neveah replied, shaking her head slightly as she kicked her foot forward, focusing her attention everywhere else but at the sounds of destruction coming from the hall.

However, with each passing second, Neveah grew more and more unsettled, and her anxiety reached a peak when she picked up on a burning smell.

"Is that..." Neveah began, jumping to her feet and dashing into the hall of history, only to find it completely intact and there was no sight of the dragon king.

Neveah glanced about and it was then she noticed another door at the left wall that was slightly ajar.

All along, Neveah had not noticed there was a door there because the door blended perfectly into the wall.

Neveah guessed that was intentional, and as another crashing sound echoed, Neveah confirmed all the ruckus was originated from that room.

"He surely knows better than to start a fire in here, doesn’t he?" Neveah murmured to herself, glancing around at the dozens of portraits in concern.

Neveah sucked in a deep breath and headed slowly towards the door, while Neveah knew it was not a wise decision to sneak up on the dragon king, she could not just sit and wait.

Arriving at the door, Neveah stopped for a moment before she stepped in, her eyes widening to find the room in utter devastation.

The altar was overturned, the window panes had crashed into the room, the wooden floor boards had been uprooted, there was not an inch of the inner room that remained in one piece.

And standing in the midst of it all was Dragon King Jian, his stance regal as always, with his arms crossed behind his back.

Yet a strange energy poured off of him, sending even more floorboards tearing off from their place.

To the side, a mantel piece crashed down from where it was hung.

’His rage affects everything around him...’ Neveah’s wolf thought to her in surprise.

Neveah was about to respond, but she did not get to as a large glass shard from the shattered windows came shooting towards her, wickedly sharp and pointed at the edge.

The speed with which it moved was so great that Neveah only caught sight of it for a split second.

On instincts, Neveah’s hands shot up to protect her head and her eyes snapped shut, a yelp of surprise escaping her.

Neveah awaited the pain as the sharp glass shard was sure to graze her but that pain did not come.

A moment passed and then another, but the glass shard still did not hit her as Neveah expected.

Neveah slowly let her eyes open, a gasp of surprise escaping her as she found the glowing orbs of the dragon king narrowed into a glare, just a short distance from her.

Neveah’s gaze wandered down to see the sharp shard was held in the dragon king’s hand, and Neveah realized King Jian had intercepted the shard before it could hit her.

"I... I shouldn’t be here..." Neveah admitted, not for the first time in the past hour.

"You shouldn’t." King Jian’s tone was cold and guttural, but his response was the exact same he had given before.

"I...well... you are on fire..." Neveah mumbled out, just realizing why she had sensed something burning.

There were flames, dancing along the length of King Jian’s hand, though his clothing remained unburnt.

"I am aware of this." King Jian replied as he glanced down at his hand before he stepped away, tossing aside the glass shard.

King Jian glanced around the hall he had completely destroyed, as though just realizing the level of destruction his mere presence had caused.

King Jian’s roaming gaze then settled on a wooden plaque on the floor and he walked over to it, crouching down to pick it up.

The very moment King Jian’s hand touched the plaque, the wood sizzled, the portion he touched burning off in a blink of an eye so the plaque fell right back to the ground.

"I’ll clean it up... you’ll only burn it all down." Neveah who had been quietly watching interrupted, walking over to the dragon king.

"You have to step away...sit over there and try to calm yourself... somehow." Neveah advised in a quiet murmur.

King Jian who was still crouched down stared up at Neveah in silence before he stood up straight and went over to take a sit by the side.

Neveah then righted the altar so it stood as it was and picked up the jewelled holder where she knew the plaque would rest.

After both were set right, Neveah picked up the plaque, wiping off the debris that had stained it with a sleeve.

Neveah lifted the plaque close to her view, studying the extent of damage done to it closely.

"This...there is nothing written on this..." Neveah pointed out, realizing the plaque was completely blank. Not even a name or a tribute written for the deceased dragon lord.

"He was not allowed a tribute..." King Jian replied in a quiet murmur.
