Oh No, Daddy Sent Me To The Beast World! - Chapter 50: Best meat ever tasted
Lin Huahua looked at him and gave a small humph through her nose, even though inside she was already feeling much better from the praise.
"So you doubted me," she said, trying to sound calm and superior.
Feng Yiren looked shameless as always. "I did."
"And now you know you were wrong."
"I do."
Lin Huahua immediately lifted her chin a little higher. "Good."
The fox was still staring at the meat like he wanted to eat the whole pile in one bite, and just as his hand began reaching for more, Mu Qingyi smacked the back of it away without even lifting his calm gaze.
Feng Yiren clicked his tongue and glared. "What was that for?"
Mu Qingyi said in his usual gentle tone, "Huahua has not eaten properly yet."
That one sentence made Feng Yiren pause.
Then the fox looked at Lin Huahua.
Then at the meat.
Then back at Lin Huahua.
In the end, he grudgingly pulled his hand back, though his tail was swishing in open irritation because his stomach and his mouth had already started to form a deep emotional bond with that roasted meat.
Lin Huahua saw this and almost laughed.
Honestly, Feng Yiren looked like a fox who had just spotted a chicken and then been told to wait politely.
At that moment, she suddenly remembered that Hu Baiyu had still not moved or tasted anything, so she turned her head and frowned at the quiet lion.
"Why are you still sitting there?" Lin Huahua asked. "Come closer and taste it too."
Hu Baiyu looked up at once when he realized she was talking to him.
For a second, he looked almost startled, like a big lion who had been hiding quietly in the corner and had not expected anyone to suddenly call him out.
Then he nodded and moved over.
Even now he still looked very innocent.
Too innocent.
So innocent that Lin Huahua almost forgot again that this same lion had used those innocent eyes to watch her bathe.
Humph.
Still, the more she looked at his careful and quiet face, the harder it became to stay angry. It was like trying to stay mad at a huge soft cloud that only knew how to stare and breathe.
Lin Huahua cut a piece for him and held it out.
The moment she fed him with her own hand, Feng Yiren’s red eyes darkened a little.
The fox said nothing, but the jealousy around him was practically rising like smoke.
It was only then that he began to notice that out of the three of them, Lin Huahua really did seem to give Hu Baiyu a little more attention.
Maybe it was because the lion was mute. Maybe it was because he looked the most harmless. Maybe it was because he had that annoying innocent face that made even a person with eyes feel softhearted.
Feng Yiren did not know.
He only knew that he did not like it very much.
For one second, the fox even began wondering whether he should also act softer and quieter, but the thought itself made him feel ridiculous.
He was Feng Yiren. If he suddenly started sitting in the corner with a pure face and saying nothing, he would probably look less like a shy fox and more like a sick one.
So he kept quiet and swallowed the jealousy instead.
Hu Baiyu tasted the meat and quickly nodded, his lion ears lifting a little. His expression was serious, but his eyes were soft, and Lin Huahua really could not tell if he was only agreeing with her because she had fed him or if it was actually good in his opinion.
So she decided not to think too much about it.
It was Mu Qingyi who looked at her again and asked, "Is something wrong? To me this is already the best meat I have ever tasted."
Lin Huahua hesitated for a moment before answering honestly, because although being praised felt good, she could still tell that something was slightly off.
"It is good," she said, "but it feels like something is missing. I cannot explain it properly. It smells better than it tastes."
Mu Qingyi lowered his gaze and thought for a while.
Because he knew herbs and healing well, he was the type who naturally understood scents, balance, and the way certain leaves could bring out or suppress other flavors.
So after thinking quietly for a moment, he reached for one of the herbs and crushed it gently between his fingers before adding it in a different way.
The other three all watched him curiously.
Lin Huahua watched hardest of all.
The moment that new scent rose from the meat, even she was surprised because this time around it was way better than hers.
The smell that had already been good before now deepened into something warmer and fuller, and this time when Mu Qingyi roasted it again and brought a small piece to her, Lin Huahua tasted it with great seriousness.
Then her eyes lit up.
This was it.
Yes.
Yes, yes, yes, this was it!
It was not the perfect taste from her sci-fi world with all its proper seasoning and advanced food systems, but compared to everything else she had eaten since arriving here, this was good enough to make her genuinely happy.
Lin Huahua looked at Mu Qingyi with bright admiration in her brown eyes and said, "This one is better. Much better. Yes, this is it."
Mu Qingyi’s calm face softened instantly from that praise, he felt his heart warm instantly.
Feng Yiren noticed the way she looked at the deer, and the fox immediately became a little moody.
First she fed the lion herself.
Now she was looking at the deer with that admiring face.
Then what was left for him?
Just watching?
This was unfair.
Very unfair.
And yet Feng Yiren still said nothing.
He only sat there in silence with his fox tail swishing more sharply behind him while he tried to think if there was anything at all he could do to make Lin Huahua look at him with the same bright eyes.
