Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1676 - 1673: The Candidates
Everyone fell silent for a moment, then Xiao Yu suddenly spoke up, "Sister Lan, who’s the third choice?"
"Xiao Yu, why don’t you give it a try? After all, you’ve been training a year longer than us, if we were in a sect, you’d be our senior disciple." Someone said this, making everyone laugh, which eased the previous tension and slightly relaxed everyone’s mood.
"Forget it, I know my own situation, going up there would just be to get beaten." Xiao Yu naturally refused, not out of a desire to protect himself, but out of fear that he’d lose and let the club down.
"So who should we choose?" Everyone scratched their heads again, looking at one another in confusion.
Just as everyone was at a loss, someone stepped forward and said to the group, "How about I give it a try?"
Everyone looked; the volunteer was actually Qiao Xiaoyi. Mu Binglan frowned as she looked at him, "What chaos are you trying to cause, going up there just to let yourself be beaten?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Lin Tian didn’t discourage him, instead he smiled and said, "Let him finish what he has to say, there might be a reason behind it."
"I... don’t really have a reason, it’s just that my classmates used to say I have good reflexes, maybe I can handle a few rounds." Qiao Xiaoyi hesitated for a moment before saying.
This remark made all the club members laugh, with Xiao Yu joking, "Your name is Qiao Xiaoyi, right? Okay, the ’good’ reflexes you mentioned are hard to quantify. Maybe your classmates think you’re good, but to those from the Karate Club, you might seem just like any ordinary person."
"Qiao Xiaoyi once saved a classmate in front of a moving vehicle. Are those reflexes good enough?" Lin Tian glanced at the club members and spoke casually.
Everyone was surprised and looked at Qiao Xiaoyi, who simply nodded, acknowledging it. The club members fell silent; regardless of the reflexes, the courage needed to save someone from a moving vehicle was quite remarkable.
"Alright, even if he has good reflexes, what if he doesn’t have the attack power? How does he defeat the opponent?" A club member questioned.
This was indeed a significant issue; having good reflexes means the opponent can’t hit you, but only dodging won’t win the fight.
"Leave that to me. Three days from now, I’ll make sure he has attack power." Lin Tian said confidently.
"Three days? You think you can train a martial arts expert in three days?" Mu Binglan was slightly surprised, even she couldn’t quite believe it.
Lin Tian shrugged, looking indifferent, "Anyway, trying something is better than doing nothing. You have no better candidate, so let’s go with him."
The club members looked to Mu Binglan to make the decision. Mu Binglan looked at Qiao Xiaoyi, who did not dodge her gaze but stared back at her.
"Alright, let’s go with him." Mu Binglan hesitated for a long time but eventually decided. However, she turned to Lin Tian and asked, "How are you going to train him? We only have three days; there’s not enough time to learn anything substantial."
"That’s not necessarily the case." Lin Tian smiled confidently and then said to Qiao Xiaoyi, "Starting tonight, every evening at seven o’clock, come find me by the lake woods. I’ll teach you how to defeat the enemy."
"Do you need my help?" Mu Binglan asked, not yet realizing Lin Tian’s true skills, so she thought it was good to offer help.
Qiao Xiaoyi himself didn’t understand what Lin Tian was planning but just looked at him.
Lin Tian didn’t explain much, "You’ll know if you come tonight."
"Alright, all three have been decided: me, Lin Tian, and Qiao Xiaoyi. Regardless of the outcome, as long as we put in our best effort, there’s no regret." Mu Binglan didn’t utter any words of certainty; she knew it wouldn’t help.
"Alright then, we’ve seen enough today. Let’s head back." Lin Tian didn’t want to look at other clubs. It was mainly a simple visit to the venue, and so much had happened.
Still, it was quite interesting; at least university life wouldn’t be so dull, Lin Tian thought to himself, though this idea, if known by the club members, might elicit varied responses.
By now, it was already about noon. Lin Tian’s group left the Martial Arts Club booth, stepping out of the playground. As they stepped out of the gate, someone came rushing in and nearly collided with Lin Tian’s group.
As the rash guy lifted his head, Lin Tian’s group was glaring at him, nearly ready to beat him up. This guy turned out to be Ning Wenbin, returning in haste.
Ning Wenbin paid little attention to their glares and exaggeratedly shouted, "Damn, what are you guys up to? I was just away for a moment, and now there’s such a big commotion—competition between two major clubs! This is too exciting."
Ning Wenbin echoed most students’ thoughts, but to him, matters concerning the club’s future became an excitement, which nearly earned him a panda eye from Mu Binglan.
Despite being rash, the guy noticed Mu Binglan’s unfriendly gaze and chuckled awkwardly, "The Karate Club is too unruly. Should I bring in expert reinforcements from outside and dismantle their club?"
By saying this, he proved he’d seen the forum post too. He gave up his chance with the first school beauty to show loyalty, not quite as reckless as rumors suggested.
Lin Tian chuckled lightly and said, "This is just a matter within the school clubs. If we actually get outside reinforcements, regardless of win or lose, the Martial Arts Club will really have no place here. Because outsiders can easily be identified, what’s this about bringing in reinforcements for a match?"
Ning Wenbin scratched his head in realization, "Seems like that’s the case. Brother Lin Tian, you’ve thought it through. I’ll treat everyone to lunch to boost morale."
"Of course you’ll treat. We also want to hear how things are developing with you and the first school beauty." Lin Tian said bluntly, smiling.
Mentioning the first school beauty goddess made him beam with excitement, "Brother Lin Tian, you’re really my lucky star. We just met, and I spoke to the goddess, while I used to hardly get a chance to see her before..."
The guy babbled on and on about the first school beauty goddess, speaking with a flair comparable to that of a comedian.
"Is that Wu Xiuluo rarely seen?" Lin Tian was intrigued and casually asked.
"Not exactly rarely seen. She used to do a lot of sensational things, but at some point, she gradually faded from sight. Same goes for Gai Huatian. Apart from attending classes, they haven’t showed up publicly for nearly a year, nor have they done anything big; it’s really different from before."
Ning Wenbin was puzzled when he said this; evidently, he couldn’t quite grasp the odd behavior of these campus idols.
Lin Tian and Xiao Manxuan exchanged glances, noticing each other’s puzzlement, but refrained from asking further.
Ning Wenbin led Lin Tian’s group to the Central cafeteria’s private room. Although it’s the school cafeteria, the upstairs rooms were quite nice, and at least the environment and food were decent.
The six of them had lunch together, then went their separate ways. There wasn’t much happening in the afternoon, and by the evening, after dinner, Lin Tian donned his black sportswear and headed out.
