Zombie Bodyguard-Chapter 1652 - 1649: Necromantic Blood
Lin Tian could use brute force to shatter the Barrier, but the Barrier was precisely meant to trap Secret Master Yasuo. If it were to be broken, this cunning Secret Master is highly likely to escape once again.
"Lin Tian, this Zhang Zhicheng is despicable." Xiao Manxuan said with discontent.
"We are just outsiders, let him do as he pleases." Lin Tian didn’t mind, as long as the zither and Ning Luoxi were safe, whoever caused turmoil didn’t concern him.
In the battle against the half-zombie from Japan, Zhang Zhicheng was beaten so badly he was left in a sorry state. Now, after acquiring a few talismans from his master, he starts flaunting his strength.
The sound of the flute suddenly stopped, Secret Master Yasuo revealed a strange smile, Ning Luoxi’s ears twitched, and she suddenly shouted out, "Zhang Zhicheng, Yasuo’s summoned creature is here, quickly prepare yourself."
As one of the participants, Zhang Zhicheng, of course, had long been notified by the Thunder Wolf. As soon as Ning Luoxi finished speaking, he took out a stack of talisman papers from his body and scattered them.
The talisman papers, appearing to fly in chaos, actually flew toward the four directions, east, south, west, and north. With a pinch of his fingers, Zhang Zhicheng made the papers ignite, and four fiery-red pillars of light descended from the sky to guard the four corners. The pillars shimmered a few times and then vanished.
It must be said, when a Demon Exorcist performs his skills, it’s anything but ordinary. With a wave of the hand, wooden stakes turn to ashes. That elegance makes anyone who sees it envious.
Of course, Lin Tian is not among those who envy. Having witnessed Demon Exorcists of Zhang Lingyu’s caliber, Zhang Zhicheng’s skills are hardly worth mentioning. If it weren’t for his master’s talismans backing him, Zhang Zhicheng would likely have backed down long ago.
"He’s far inferior to Sister Lingyu." Xiao Manxuan gave the most honest evaluation.
Just as the four pillars had settled in place, a dense buzzing sound filled the air. Countless insects flew out of the forest, swirling like clouds, surging towards the zither platform.
"Xuanxuan, let’s move over there." Since they weren’t allowed into the Barrier, Lin Tian didn’t want to be caught in the crossfire. He wrapped his arm around Xiao Manxuan’s waist and leaped onto a big tree nearby.
As soon as they got on the tree, the quickest flying insects reached the spot where the fire pillars had vanished. Zhang Zhicheng quickly formed seals, chanting, "Four fire spirits, guard!"
A flash of red light, the fire pillars reappeared. Between each pillar, a semi-transparent wall appeared, burning with flames. Insects crashing into the flames emitted crackling sounds, like corn turning to popcorn when thrown into a fire.
Subsequently, more insects flew in, like a massive dark cloud crashing into the flame wall. The insects were incinerated upon contact with the wall, bursting open, releasing a black gas upon explosion.
Erratic buzz of insects constantly echoed, as black gas from the destroyed bugs met the wall and sizzled, dimming the wall gradually.
"Yasuo, if you keep going like this, your reserves will soon be burned away!" Taking advantage of a break in his spell, Zhang Zhicheng shouted loudly.
Yasuo put away his flute, nonchalant, with a sinister laugh: "As long as I get the zither, what is a little reserve worth? Besides, do you think that’s all I have? Hahaha..."
Rustling... the sound of animals crawling, mixed with the sound of hissing, gave people goosebumps as a swarm of snakes slithered out of the forest.
Snakes crawl by wriggling their bodies and scales, usually moving slowly, but there’s an exception: during an attack, their speed can burst suddenly.
The snake swarm slithered out of the forest, seemingly locked on a target, suddenly shifting from creeping to darting, madly rushing toward the zither platform, soon converging with the insect cloud.
With flying insects above and a swarm of snakes below, the scene was truly a cloud of insects and a sea of snakes. Anyone faint-hearted would be scared out of their wits witnessing such a sight.
However, having knowledge of witchcraft and Gu Worms, Xiao Manxuan showed no sign of fear, instead, the little girl was excited: "Lin Tian, do you think these insects or Little Zi are more formidable?"
"Of course, Little Zi is more formidable, being a hybrid evolution of a Zombie Gu and Golden Silkworm Gu, able to pierce through metal. These insects are just those wrought with witchcraft and Gu sorcery, they’re just a little tricky." Lin Tian said confidently, though he wasn’t fond of Little Zi, facts are facts.
"And these snakes?" Xiao Manxuan pointed at the snakes, and asked again.
"Snakes?" Looking at the serpent swarm, Lin Tian furrowed his brow slightly, feeling something off about these snakes.
Before he could think of anything, the snake swarm simultaneously opened their mouths, spraying venom at the fire wall. Unlike the insects who rushed to their deaths, the snakes were spraying venom instead.
"It’s not venom." Lin Tian remarked in surprise, for the snakes were spewing black liquid, and he had never heard of snake venom being black.
As the black liquid touched the fire wall, black flames erupted, or rather, the flames were turned black by the liquid.
Seeing the black flames, Zhang Zhicheng’s facial muscles twitched a few times, as he involuntarily stepped back, panic and fear mingling in his eyes.
"You... you actually used Spiritual Blood to feed the Poisonous Snake!" Zhang Zhicheng’s voice trembled as if Spiritual Blood was something terrifying.
"What is Spiritual Blood?" Xiao Manxuan asked curiously, seeing Zhang Zhicheng so frightened.
Lin Tian shrugged, puzzled too: "I don’t know either, maybe some kind of corpse-refined concoction. Rumor has it the Yin Yang clan from the Guizhong family in Japan refined something similar."
"Is it that evil Onmyoji from the Shrine?" Xiao Manxuan knew a bit about the Shrine stuff Lin Tian had told her, only a tad.
"Hahaha..." A discordantly harsh laugh interrupted their conversation, Yasuo laughed proudly: "After feeding Poisonous Snakes with Spiritual Blood, their venom can dissolve flesh and bone, and subvert your Demon Exorcism Skill. With something this powerful, why wouldn’t I use it?"
"The Demon Exorcists of Huaxia are hard to deal with. If I didn’t prepare something formidable, how dare I set foot on this land? It’s just a pity, there aren’t enough corpses that died with resentment, otherwise, they’d be even more formidable, hahaha..." Speaking of Spiritual Blood, Yasuo was extremely proud, cold-blooded and ruthless.
"Seems like I guessed right. Spiritual Blood is something Yasuo refined using corpses. I remember Zhang Lingyu said that this secret technique originated from corpse refining techniques practiced long ago, ones even evil Onmyoji would use." Lin Tian came to a sudden realization.
Ever since witnessing the Spiritual Blood, Zhang Zhicheng’s cold arrogance changed into panic. He was originally a coward yet pridefully arrogant person.
"Whoosh..."
The sound of wind suddenly arose, as changes occurred in the forest again. Several flames shot out from the woodland. Lin Tian squinted slightly to get a clear view. They were iron arrows, with strange flames burning on their arrowheads.
The flame was small, yet didn’t get extinguished by the wind during the rapid flight, as the iron arrows embedded themselves into the snake swarm. Though formidable, the Poisonous Snake wasn’t invulnerable, the sharp arrowheads pierced through the snakes and into the ground. As the flames caught on, they burned the Poisonous Snake, and the nearby snakes caught fire as well.
