Chapter 460: Chapter 460: Torn Between Two Choices

"So, we’re not going to Crestwood, right? Who knows what he’s planning in his head? What if we go back and he harms us?"

May Morgan wasn’t afraid of dying herself; she was scared that Vincent Vance would get caught up in a trap with no escape. She was already someone meant to die, and nothing frightened her anymore. But if Vincent got harmed because of her, even in death, she wouldn’t rest in peace.

"We have to go!" Vincent said to May with determination, hesitating almost not at all.

May looked at Vincent, surprised, and suddenly felt worried as she urged him, "Don’t go, and I won’t go either. This is clearly a trap. Why would we go back and look for trouble? I don’t mind dying; I’m already this way. But I can’t drag you to die with me."

Vincent, moved, took May’s hand, kissed it near his lips, and said to her tenderly, "Just because of what you said, even if I die, I want to die with you."

After a pause, Vincent suddenly said to May with a sorrowful face, "In fact, I’ve wanted to say sorry to you for a long time, May. Do you know that if it weren’t for me, maybe you’d be living a very happy life with Adam Owens? If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be like this. So, it’s all my fault; I owe you, and I must repay you."

May, however, gave a bitter smile, lowered her head, and said to Vincent with emotion, "It’s all in the past, so why talk about who’s indebted to whom? Now I just hope for two things: first, that Victor Grant will wake up well, and second, that you can safely live out your life. That’s all I ask for."

May knew that in this lifetime, she owed emotional debts to two men: one was Victor Grant, and the other was Vincent Vance. She had burdened both, and she could no longer afford to love either.

The situation with Victor Grant’s family was inseparable from her, so even if it cost her life, she had to ensure he woke up.

As for Vincent, she felt that she owed him no less than Victor. For every hardship she endured back then, Vincent bore equal suffering. So, in truth, it was unclear who owed whom more between them.

Vincent bent down and hugged May tightly in his arms, his voice a bit choked: "Silly girl, don’t you know? If you were gone, how could I live alone? Hell is so dark; I have to go with you or else who will comfort your fears?"

May was so moved by Vincent that she wanted to cry; her eyes were moist. She couldn’t help but also reach out and hold Vincent tight: "If I can survive this, I’ll find a way to return to your side. I promise."

She had already fed her blood to Victor Grant. If he awakened, then she would have repaid his kindness with her life, and she could leave; Victor wouldn’t be able to say much.

Of course, if Victor didn’t awaken, then she would remain his wife forever and vow to take care of him for life, because that’s what she owed him.

Just as May was thinking about Victor Grant, Vincent’s phone suddenly rang. He picked it up and saw it was a call from Heather Holt.

Seeing that it was Heather calling, Vincent hesitated slightly, filled with a bad premonition. He didn’t dare answer the call in front of May and decisively hung up the phone.

"Who was that call from?" Seeing Vincent’s expression suddenly become a bit unnatural, May couldn’t help but ask with surprise.

Vincent glanced at her, smilingly brushed it off: "Nothing, a strange number."

Actually, when Vincent checked his phone, May saw the call coming in, so when Vincent suddenly lied to her, it made her a bit suspicious.

"I’m a bit tired and want to rest for a while. Could you step out for a bit?" Knowing Vincent would definitely call Heather back, May hurriedly sought a chance for him.

At her words, Vincent carefully tucked May in and gently advised her: "Okay, have a good rest. We’ll need to head back to Crestwood a bit later."

"Alright, I know!" May smiled at Vincent and deliberately closed her eyes before him.

Vincent saw that May was really asleep, so he quietly slipped outside with his phone. He didn’t go too far, afraid that something might happen to May in the bedroom and he wouldn’t notice in time. So he stood in the corridor and called Heather Holt back.

"Mrs. Grant, is there something you need by calling so late?" Once the call went through, Vincent asked Heather cautiously.

Heather was somewhat excited as she told Vincent, "It’s nothing much. I just wanted to tell May that Victor is awake."

Victor Grant had woken up?

Vincent clutched the phone, his mind heavy at that moment. Theoretically, he should share this news with May, so she wouldn’t worry about Victor anymore. But, given Victor’s ardor for May, Vincent feared Victor’s awakening might greatly hinder their trip to Crestwood.

After much thought, Vincent finally said to Heather, "Mrs. Grant, congratulations. I’ll come by tomorrow morning to see your son and have a chat with him."

Heather, engrossed in attending to Victor, didn’t pick up on the implication of Vincent’s words and nodded, "Alright, just inform May and bring her over tomorrow."

"Okay!"

After hanging up Heather’s call, Vincent held onto the phone, thinking for a long time in the corridor before turning back to the bedroom.

May was in deep sleep; even when he entered the room, she made no movement. Seeing May truly asleep, Vincent let out a sigh of relief and lay down beside her.

Early the next morning, while May was still sleeping, Vincent drove to the hospital where Victor Grant was staying.

Victor was indeed awake. When Vincent arrived, Heather had just taken him for a full-body checkup and was now back in the ward talking with him.

He hadn’t entered the room yet but heard Victor asking Heather, "Where’s May? Where is she now?"

Hearing the question, Heather quickly reassured her son, "Don’t worry, I’ve already called May, and she said she’s coming over soon."

Victor sighed slightly, a bit ashamed as he said to Heather, "Mom, I’m sorry. It’s my willfulness that’s led to this."

Heather, a face full of concern, glanced at Victor. After a long while, she tentatively asked, "Victor, do you really think May is the only one for you? I just feel like you two aren’t a good match. Look, marrying her has gotten our family to this point..."

"Mom, this has nothing to do with May; it’s my fault. This time, it’s my mistake—believing Logan’s slander—that’s caused this mess."

Hearing Heather express some dislike for May, Victor quickly defended her, afraid she’d blame May.
