Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 342: Deception
Victor Grant personally brought some delicious food for May Morgan, not wanting to disappoint him, she picked up the bag and turned to leave. Victor followed her and they went to sit in the small living room.
He eagerly picked up a cup of milk tea and handed it to May, indicating for her to drink: "I remember you like bubble milk tea, try it, do you like this flavor?"
May gratefully glanced at him, reached out to take it, but suddenly Victor’s hand shook, and the large cup of milk tea spilled onto her lap.
"Oh, I’m sorry." Victor quickly apologized to May when he saw the milk tea spilled on her pants and immediately got up to get some tissues to help her wipe it.
May sighed speechlessly, got up to change her pants next door: "Wait for me, I’ll go change and come back."
As she left, Miller hurried to follow and help, but Victor seized the opportunity to grab Miller’s arm and whispered in her ear.
When May returned in her changed clothes, Victor, looking anxious, stood up from the sofa, intending to leave: "I have some matters at the company that need to be handled, I’ll go first, remember to eat well, don’t let yourself get hungry."
May had no doubts about him and gave Victor a particularly grateful look: "You too, don’t overwork yourself, remember to get plenty of rest."
Victor gave May a deep look, smiled, and touched her face before turning to leave the room.
As soon as he stepped out, Miller handed a bag to Victor. He took it and saw inside were the pants May had just changed out of.
He reached inside and felt the Jade Pendant in the pocket, nodding in satisfaction and whispered to Miller: "If she asks about the pendant later, you know what to say?"
Miller nodded cautiously: "Yes, I know."
Having successfully obtained the pendant, Victor dared not delay and hurriedly drove to Samuel Zimmerman’s house. By the time he arrived, night had fallen.
Samuel was still waiting in the courtyard for news from Victor, and seeing him come, he excitedly led Victor to meet the master.
The elderly master, seeing Victor’s sincerity this time, had his previously displeased expression somewhat soothed.
He took the Jade Pendant from Victor’s hand, examining it closely in his palm, and suddenly asked Victor gravely: "Sir, how did you come by this pendant?"
Victor didn’t want to reveal too much, so he evasively replied: "It’s a friend’s item, I need a fake one to replace the real one."
The old man stroked his beard and carefully studied the pendant for a while, then looked up and said to Victor thoughtfully: "If that’s the case, I advise against it. Though the pendant is an antique, it exudes an aura of strangeness and ominousness. Having it might not be a blessing."
Victor was aware of the pendant’s ominous nature; many had died because of it, but he couldn’t concern himself with that. What mattered to him was May’s safety; everything else could be dealt with.
"Old sir, don’t worry about that, I need this pendant for a purpose. Here’s a ten million reward, please accept it."
Victor said, taking out a black card and presenting it to the old master. Seeing this, Samuel’s eyes gleamed brightly, and he promptly urged the master: "Master, see how generous Mr. Grant is! Please help him."
The old man looked at the card Victor offered, hesitated briefly, and finally nodded: "Okay, leave the pendant here tonight, and it’ll be ready by tomorrow morning at the latest."
Victor hesitated, somewhat reluctantly, and said: "Can I watch by the side?"
This pendant was too important; he dared not casually hand it over to someone else. After all, it concerned Vincent Vance’s life and fortune.
Although he wanted Vincent to die, the pendant belonged to May, and he had stolen it; if she found out one day, he’d have to return it.
But upon hearing Victor’s request, the old master frowned and returned both the card and the pendant to Victor: "Mr. Grant doesn’t trust me? If that’s the case, I’ll refuse this business, seek someone else."
Seeing this, Samuel hurriedly explained to Victor in a low voice: "Mr. Grant, my master has a rule that he doesn’t like people watching his work. You know, it’s a craft, and it would be troublesome if someone learned it, but if you trust us, leave the item with my master. His reputation in the industry is very good."
Victor turned and glanced at the old master, thinking that even among thieves there is honor. Though they were creating fakes, they didn’t seem deceitful. Besides, if he dared to stash away Victor’s things privately, he wouldn’t let it slide.
"Alright, I’ll leave the item here, and I’ll come to collect it in the morning."
Victor nodded and turned to leave the courtyard.
He barely got into the car when May’s call came through: "Victor, did you take the clothes I just changed out of?"
Victor anticipated she would call and ask, so he immediately lied: "When I left, Miller did give me the clothes, saying it was inconvenient to wash them at the hospital, so she let me take them home to wash."
May nodded at this and said: "That’s fine, I’ll come home later to get something; I left something in the pocket."
Victor pretended to ask knowingly: "What did you leave?"
May dared not let him know about the pendant, so she replied evasively: "It’s not anything too valuable, but it holds sentimental value for me. I need to get it back. By the way, you took the clothes home, right?"
Victor curled his lips into a cold smile and purposely said to May: "I have some business out of town, haven’t returned yet."
"What? You haven’t gone home? But the clothes..."
"The clothes are still in my car, I haven’t had a chance to take them back yet. Why? Are you in a rush?"
"Never mind... when will you be back? I’ll go home with you." May sighed helplessly; she hadn’t expected things to turn out like this. For now, she could only wait for Victor to return.
The fake pendant wouldn’t be ready until tomorrow morning. Tonight, Victor had no intention of letting May find him.
"I might not be able to return tonight; there’s a major problem at the subsidiary in Garrison City that needs handling urgently. It’ll be tomorrow morning at the earliest before I can return."
