Chapter 215: Chapter 215: Car Accident

Upon hearing May Morgan speak of resolved grudges, Melanie Morgan’s eyes suddenly glimmered with a light of hope. She was just about to climb up from the floor when she heard May’s voice, as somber as if from hell, above her head.

"But, you still have to repay Grandma’s vengeance."

"Wha-what? Didn’t you say our grudges are resolved?" Melanie was suddenly terrified, her face ashen. More than being disfigured, she was unwilling to eat bullets; though dire, she was at least alive.

"That’s right, the grudges between us are resolved, but the life you owe Grandma is not for me to decide." May let out a cold laugh, and as she turned around, she deliberately consulted Vincent Vance, "I see her medicine line is disconnected, so she can be handed over to Director Lawson for interrogation."

Vincent nodded, never once glancing at Melanie: "I’ll handle this. You should return with me first; there are too many germs here, and you’re pregnant."

"Alright." May gave Vincent a faint smile and turned to leave.

Unwilling, Melanie crawled over, grabbing May’s skirt and pleading bitterly, "May, for Dad’s sake, can’t you spare my life? I’m begging you!"

"Sorry, it’s not for me to decide, plead for the law’s mercy instead." Without giving Melanie any chance to beg, May decisively shook her wrist free, withdrawing with Vincent from the ward.

As the ward door closed, Melanie’s heart-wrenching cries once again rang out.

May, hearing Melanie’s sobs behind her, couldn’t resist looking back. Vincent teased, "You spoke cruelly just now; why do you seem a bit regretful now?"

May lowered her lashes and sighed softly, "I’m not regretful; if she hadn’t forced me to this point, I wouldn’t have done this to her."

"So, don’t feel like you were overly cruel; it’s what she deserves." Vincent comfortingly embraced May’s shoulder, gently pulling her closer, then kissed her gently, advising in a whisper, "Do you believe in karma? I believe in it now; if Melanie hadn’t drugged you back then, how would you have ended up with me? We owe our marriage to her."

May thought it over and found Vincent’s reasoning sound, relaxing with a smile in his embrace; ’Perhaps some things really are destined? Who marries whom, who ends up with whom—perhaps it’s all planned by the heavens.’

"So, are you satisfied with your current husband?" Vincent inquired, trying to please her.

"Satisfied. If you kneel on durians for me every day, I’d be even more satisfied." Seeing the man beside her acting proud again, May promptly ribbed him.

Mentioning durians, Vincent’s face turned dark: "Prohibit mentioning durian ever again, or else I..."

"Or else what?" May put on a stern face, confidently glaring at him.

"Or else I’ll buy you a heap of durian pastries... what else could I do?"

Someone rolled their eyes speechlessly, thinking it’s just because you’re pregnant now; otherwise, hmm...

To prevent any unforeseen situation, Vincent and May got two skilled bodyguards upon leaving the hospital, to escort Melanie to Crestwood.

Before leaving, Vincent also phoned Director Lawson to detail the situation here. Director Lawson was naturally pleased; breaking such a big case effortlessly was indeed a cause for joy, so preparations were made early at Crestwood, awaiting Vincent’s people to deliver Melanie.

When Melanie was being ushered into the car, Melody White was incredibly distressed, insisting on following them, willing to die if needed. The bodyguards had no choice but to call Vincent for instructions, and since Vincent figured Melody, being an old woman, couldn’t stir much trouble, he complied.

During the journey, the car traveled smoothly until dusk, when it was leaving Silverwood City and about to turn onto the highway; the driver ahead suddenly smelled a strange fragrance.

The scent was sweet and cloying, very pleasant to smell. Realizing something was amiss, the driver quickly informed the two bodyguards behind, "Did you guys smell something strange?"

The two drivers in the back also smelled the odd fragrance and were just about to speak when they suddenly felt a void before them, slipping into unconsciousness before realizing.

The driver in front, similar to the bodyguards behind, experienced a bout of dizziness before fainting completely, not having time to brake.

The car rushed swiftly toward the woods beside them, with Melanie and Melody shrieking in terror, watching helplessly as the vehicle crashed into a massive tree trunk and stalled.

The car jolted violently, Melody unable to withstand the shock, fainted on the spot; Melanie, though slightly injured, was unharmed and the only conscious one inside the car.

After a brief shock, Melanie quickly calmed down; this was Heaven’s blessed opportunity. Now there was an accident, everyone in the car was unconscious; if not now, then when to escape?

She first turned to look at her mother, finding her mother passed out, contemplating if taking her along would mean more burden. She pushed her mom aside decisively, opened the car door to escape.

However, as she pulled open the car door suddenly, she saw a mysterious old woman, clad in a black cloak, standing outside the car.

"Is...is it you?" Seeing the familiar figure, Melanie was startled, freezing in place.

This woman had saved her once, so Melanie was familiar with her. Yet, Melanie always thought her activity range was limited to Crestwood, not expecting for her to also appear in Silverwood City.

The woman slowly lifted her head, her eyes, even in the dark, emitting an eerie yellow gleam, coldly observing Melanie’s disfigured face.

"Only a few days, you’ve really had it rough!" the old woman taunted Melanie disdainfully.

Knowing well she was mocking her face, Melanie touched her scarred and ugly face, whispering her explanation to the woman, "It was my incompetence that led me to fall to May Morgan’s cunningness."

"Ha ha ha..." the woman suddenly let out a sinister laugh, sending chills down one’s spine, "May Morgan is merely relying on Vincent Vance’s power to act mighty above you. What, are you giving up?"

"I...I won’t give up, but look at me now, what more can I do?" Holding her disfigured face, Melanie suddenly burst into tears, drowning in despair.
