Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 155: The Video Is Gone
"Yes, I found this at a farmhouse. The farmer said it could restrain Poisonous Insects, and indeed, it works. By the way, you know about Fragrant Bone Wood, right?" Vincent quickly asked May.
May took a moment to calm her stomach’s queasiness before explaining to Vincent, "I heard about it from my grandmother. My father is timid and terrified of things like Poisonous Insects, so my grandmother made him an Amulet from the heart of the Fragrant Bone Wood tree. After that, those insects rarely bothered him."
Upon hearing this, Vincent’s eyes darkened slightly. So, the Amulet around Mason’s neck was crafted by May’s grandmother. Could it be that May’s grandmother also kept insects?
The farmer said Fragrant Bone Wood only grows on Mount Caelus. He risked his life to get a small piece, demonstrating May’s grandmother’s considerable talent by crafting an Amulet for her son.
This led Vincent to recall Mason confiding in him that May wasn’t his biological child, rather adopted by May’s grandmother from the mountain, creating distance between them.
Could May’s origins be somehow linked to Mount Caelus?
The thought sent shivers down Vincent’s spine. Reflecting on last night’s events, he glanced at May again with a complex expression.
May remained unaware of the complicated look in his eyes, continuing, "Actually, my grandma used to keep insects too, but they were beneficial ones, used for healing. However, my father was naturally fearful, especially of insects. Eventually, after a big argument about me with my grandmother, he ran away, and from then on, my grandmother stopped keeping them."
Vincent found May’s words amusing, as if there were good and bad Poisonous Insects. To him, all such insects were harmful. Just like last night, he personally saw his subordinate being devoured to nothing but a skeleton by those terrifying insects.
"Enough of this. Your father’s back, but he’s not in his right mind. I’ve had him sent to a sanatorium to be watched over. Do you want to find time to see him?" Vincent didn’t want to dwell too deeply, fearing the more he thought about it, the scarier and less acceptable the reality became, so he intentionally changed the subject.
May had no desire to see Mason. Even if he were dead, she wouldn’t spare him a glance.
"I’m not going. I’m a bit tired and want to lie down for some rest." May stretched wearily, standing up to head upstairs.
Seeing this, Vincent hastily called over a nearby servant to assist May upstairs.
"I need to go to the office and deliver money to Victor. Rest. I’ll come back later to accompany you!"
"Okay!" May flashed Vincent a smile, then went upstairs with the servant’s assistance.
As Vincent watched her ascend, Aunt Miller, who had delivered documents to his car, entered.
"Sir, all the documents have been placed in your car."
Vincent nodded, gesturing for her to approach, then whispered in her ear, "When the Missus asks about that video, you know how to respond, right?"
"Yes, I understand." Aunt Miller quickly nodded, cautiously replying, "I’ll put on a show for the Missus later, rest assured."
Vincent nodded with satisfaction, gave her some instructions, then turned and exited the villa.
After a satisfying meal, May lay down for a while, enjoying a delightful nap. Upon waking, she checked the time; it was already past three in the afternoon.
Remembering last night’s thrilling scene, May quickly got up to find her phone, planning to resend the video to Vincent.
Vincent mentioned being in the mountains last night, thus missing the video due to lack of signal. She hoped everything was true and that Vincent would, upon receiving it, indeed confront Arthur.
Yet after searching all over her bed, she couldn’t find her phone, not even under the bed.
Her phone, having been smashed once by Victor, couldn’t possibly have been stolen again, right? The house servants at Zenith Villa were quite refined and surely wouldn’t steal her phone for no reason.
Feeling uneasy over the lost phone, May hastily opened a drawer to check if the camcorder inside was missing too, and unsurprisingly, it had vanished.
She distinctly remembered her phone being on the pillow when she went down for dinner. Could Vincent have moved it, fearing radiation? If he had taken it, wouldn’t he mention it? Moreover, how to explain the missing camcorder from the drawer?
"Someone, someone!" The more May thought about it, the more something felt wrong, prompting her to shout towards the door.
Soon, Aunt Miller heard her and entered.
"Missus, what’s the matter?"
Suppressing her anger, May deliberately asked the most frequent visitor to her room, Aunt Miller, "Aunt Miller, have you seen my phone?"
Aunt Miller’s eyes shifted before she quickly denied, "No, I haven’t seen it."
"Are you sure? It was right here on my bed." May pointed to the spot at the head of the bed, deliberately questioning her again.
Aunt Miller hurriedly denied again, "No, really, I haven’t. Missus, you wouldn’t suspect me of stealing your phone, would you?"
May didn’t want to falsely accuse but her phone vanishing without reason wasn’t right, and the camcorder missing from her drawer? Could they have been burglarized?
"I’m not trying to accuse you. After all, my broken phone isn’t valuable, but the fact is, it’s gone. Plus, the camcorder in the drawer is missing too. What do you suggest I do about it?" May pointed at the empty drawer and headboard, her voice suddenly turning stern: "You’re responsible for cleaning my room, apart from you, I don’t know who else to ask."
Aunt Miller, without hesitation, knelt before May, tears flowing, "Missus, it pains me to hear you say this, but I truly didn’t steal your belongings. I’ve worked at Zenith Villa for so many years and never lost a single item that’s come under my responsibility."
The woman appeared to be in her forties, old enough to be May’s mother. If not for the importance of the phone’s contents, May wouldn’t have pressured someone so much older. But now...
