Chapter 134: Chapter 134: Mason Morgan Is Stunned

"Thank you!" Jacob Jennings took a deep breath and suddenly looked at May Morgan with gratitude.

May Morgan quickly waved at him, signaling him to leave quickly: "Why are you still dawdling? Waiting to sponge off my meals?"

Her words made the serious-faced Jacob Jennings laugh. Shaking his head helplessly, he took out a palm-sized handgun from his pocket and handed it to May Morgan.

"Keep this handgun for protection if necessary," Jacob earnestly instructed May Morgan.

May Morgan looked up at the handgun he handed over, hesitated for a moment, but then politely took it: "Thanks for this."

Jacob smiled faintly, giving May Morgan a meaningful glance: "You’re someone the Eldest Master Vance values. If something happened to you, even if I saved the Eldest Master, he would kill me himself."

Though his words had a hint of family dissatisfaction, May Morgan felt delighted: "If only you were a woman? If you were a woman, Vincent Vance might be more lenient."

Jacob shook his head with a wry smile: "Even if I were a woman, the Eldest Master wouldn’t hold back. He only cares about those he values; the rest..." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖

Jacob didn’t finish his sentence, but May Morgan understood. Thinking of Vincent Vance’s words to Jacob in the basement last night made her even more touched: "That’s why I’m asking you to watch over him. Do you think I’d feel better if something happened to him?"

Jacob smiled with satisfaction and turned to leave: "Thank you for allowing it, and if the Eldest Master returns safely this time, I’ll be sure to thank you."

As May Morgan watched his fading silhouette, she called out loudly: "He’s my husband; I take care of him myself. I don’t need gratitude from an outsider like you!"

A soft smile appeared on Jacob’s lips. At that moment, he had a different impression of the woman behind him.

He originally thought May Morgan was a capricious girl, even angry at her selfless devotion to the Eldest Master. But now, it seemed only May Morgan was worthy of the Eldest Master.

After Vincent Vance arrived in Crestwood by plane, he first took Melanie Morgan to the police station to see Director Lawson.

Director Lawson had already ordered all records of current residents in Crestwood to be checked, but they didn’t find the old woman Melanie described.

After reviewing all the information, Vincent sighed in disappointment and turned to have Melanie brought in from outside. Director Lawson was naturally pleased to see that Melanie was finally caught and immediately had her taken to give a statement.

Under Vincent’s pressure, Melanie didn’t dare to deny the murder, so with her confession, the case could be closed.

However, Vincent didn’t intend to hand Melanie over to Director Lawson right away, as he had more pressing matters to attend to.

"Director Lawson, I need your help in tracking down the whereabouts of this woman!"

Based on Melanie’s detailed description of the woman, Vincent believed she wasn’t lying and had no reason to. So he thought that in such a vast and mysterious Crestwood, there must be people not registered, and this strange old woman might be among them.

Although Director Lawson had a good relationship with Vincent, he couldn’t deploy many police officers to search for an unrelated person without reason. He said with some difficulty: "Eldest Master Vance, this might not be possible; Crestwood is too large, surrounded by mountains, making a search very difficult."

"I know, but because there are so many mountains, I fear this woman might not be registered. You know, with this poison insect stuff, I have three subordinates harmed by them. I seriously suspect this old woman is responsible for their deaths. Since she is a suspect in a crime, mobilizing personnel to help me find her isn’t over the top, right?"

Vincent’s reasoning left Chief Lewis speechless. After hesitating briefly, he nodded and agreed: "Alright then, I’ll have a meeting now, and in the afternoon, set up a task force, assigning some personnel to focus on your case. How does that sound?"

Vincent was naturally grateful for Director Lawson’s open-mindedness. He shook his hand tightly, expressing his gratitude while saying: "And as for Melanie, I can’t hand her over to you just yet. I need her to help find the woman, as she knows the old woman’s exact location."

"Very well, but since this woman has killed, she must be dangerous. Be very careful not to let her harm you," Director Lawson quickly advised Vincent.

Vincent felt he didn’t need to be overly cautious about Melanie, since he could see through her little tricks at a glance.

"I understand!"

After meeting with Director Lawson, Vincent turned to check on Mason Morgan. Just as Chief Lewis mentioned over the phone, Mason was like a man without a soul at this point.

When the police questioned him, he just gazed blankly, not uttering a single word. When tired of questioning, he would simply lower his head like a lifeless person, mumbling incoherently, making no sense.

Seeing this, Vincent frowned and approached him, staring into his vacant eyes: "Mason Morgan, where have you been these past few days?"

Mason Morgan had been missing for over ten days. In such desolate mountains and woods, even if he survived by luck, he should be pale and emaciated, with ragged clothes, shouldn’t he?

But looking at Mason Morgan now, he appeared as the same as when he had disappeared. Apart from a few scrapes on the edge of his clothes, he looked exactly the same—still fair and chubby, with well-nourished skin, showing no signs of hardships.

Mason glanced at him, then looked away as if he didn’t recognize him, lowered his head, dazed, his head bobbing like an idiot.

A policeman nearby saw this and kindly advised Vincent: "Don’t bother. We’ve questioned him day and night, but he won’t say a word, no matter how we scare or coax him."

Vincent suspected that Mason had been traumatized, causing such behavior. He then asked the police officer: "Has he been taken to the hospital for a check-up?"

"Yes, he was examined as soon as he arrived at the station, but the doctor found nothing wrong. His brain CT showed everything was normal, not like he’d suffered a physical blow. In my opinion, he’s probably scared to death. But there’s no way to verify that," the officer grumbled as he left with the empty interrogation record, leaving only Vincent and Mason in the large interrogation room.
