Young Master Vance Has An Enchanting Wife!-Chapter 103: Poisonous Insect War
His foot had just stepped onto the soft grass when a chill shot through him, causing him to shiver all over. He stood there frozen, not daring to move at all.
The two people in front saw him with one foot on the ground and the other still in the car, standing as still as a statue. They asked anxiously, "Mr. Morgan, what’s wrong?"
Mason Morgan swallowed dryly and, after a long pause, said to the two of them, "It’s better to close the car door."
After he spoke, he quickly retracted his foot from the grass, at the same time flicking a two-foot-long black venomous snake into the air with his movements.
"Hurry, call Director Lawson, or we’re doomed!" Mason Morgan didn’t have Director Lawson’s phone number. After getting in the car, he quickly instructed the two people in front.
The two didn’t dare to delay, one was responsible for calling Director Lawson to report, while the other also called Jacob Jennings.
Jacob Jennings had just finished his work and was on the way over. Hearing their description, he also felt a chill in his heart.
In these few days of interaction with Crestwood, it couldn’t help but instill a sense of awe in him, who was otherwise fearless.
Just because you haven’t seen something doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. So, even though his subordinates’ account earlier sounded bizarre, he knew they wouldn’t lie to him; those things were real.
But why did these things suddenly attack Mason Morgan?
"Mr. Morgan, we can’t go outside, can we?" With the car temporarily safe, the two watched the growing number of spiders and centipedes outside the window and asked Mason Morgan.
Recalling the feeling underfoot on the grass, Mason Morgan still felt a chill down his spine. He swallowed again and tried to explain calmly, "You saw earlier, didn’t you? What I kicked away were all venomous snakes. When I stepped down just now, that soft, squirming sensation, you already know what that must’ve been, right?"
The two’s faces registered utmost disgust, assuming the ground was now covered in venomous snakes. Just the thought gave them a sickening sensation.
"Then what do we do now? We can’t just stay like this, can we? I fear we won’t last until Director Lawson’s men arrive!"
Their car windows were already crawling with spiders, centipedes, and snakes. Some even climbed onto the car roof, the creaking sounds of them scuttling across was chilling.
These things looked like a scene from a biochemical war. Even if they had guns, how many bullets could handle that many snakes? That many centipedes?
"What can we do? Hold on as long as we can." Mason Morgan closed his eyes in despair, clutching the wooden amulet in his hand as he silently prayed.
This amulet was left to him by his mother when he was very young. She also practiced insect magic. After having May Morgan, she stopped because Mason was timid and afraid of such things, so she made him this wooden amulet. It is said to be made from a special wood from Mount Caelus, capable of warding off insects and preventing poisonous insects from disturbing.
Mason Morgan silently grasped the amulet, remembering his mother’s words. He turned to look at the poisonous creatures outside and, moved by a sudden thought, quickly took the amulet from around his neck and shook it towards the car window.
Sure enough, the poisonous creatures, catching the strange scent emanating from the amulet, swiftly scattered. However, the scent’s potency had diminished over time, so it could only repel a limited number of insects.
The two people in front, seeing this, excitedly said to Mason Morgan, "Mr. Morgan, what’s that thing you’re holding? The bugs seem really afraid of it."
"It’s the amulet my mother gave me before she passed. It does have the power to ward off evil and insects, but its efficacy has waned over time." Mason Morgan explained with some regret.
If only the amulet still had its original strength, he wouldn’t be cowering in the car waiting to die—he could just escape with the amulet in hand.
Outside, the number of poisonous insects was still growing, clearly driven intentionally by someone. Whoever can control so many insects must be exceptionally powerful. Meanwhile, they were merely hiding in the car to avoid the immediate threat. Perhaps, soon, a greater attack would follow.
Just as he was bracing himself for the worst, their car suddenly lurched violently as if someone with incredible strength was shoving it. This startled the three inside.
"Heavens, what just happened?" The two in front turned pale with fright, quickly turning to Mason Morgan as the car began to rock fiercely.
Mason Morgan’s face wasn’t much better; his lips quivered, and he couldn’t speak.
After a violent shake, the car suddenly flipped forward, hurtling toward a cliff ten meters away. If they fell off, they’d surely die.
Their car, completely out of control, continued rolling toward the edge, soon about to plunge.
The people inside could no longer stay calm, seeing that they were about to fall off the cliff. The driver in front couldn’t stand it any longer and, before the car dropped, quickly opened the door and crawled out.
Mason Morgan and the other person quickly followed suit, opening the door to crawl out as fast as they could.
Though Mason had the amulet on hand, repelling the snakes and insects from approaching too closely, the other two weren’t so lucky. As soon as they crawled out, they were swarmed by spiders and centipedes, and soon, venomous snakes joined in.
"Ah!" The two screamed, rolling on the ground. These poisonous creatures were formidable, tearing at them until they were a bloody mess within moments.
Mason Morgan watched as the two who had been talking to him mere moments ago vanished before his eyes—one fell off the cliff, and the other was torn open and killed by the swarm of insects. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶
His stomach churned; already timid, seeing such a scene left him terrified and lost. Panicking, he scrambled up and fled into the depths of the forest.
Though his amulet kept the insects from getting too close, they were directly ordered to attack Mason Morgan, so no matter where he ran, they quickly closed in on him.
