Chapter 1613: Lu Feng's Comforting Words

By the crack of dawn, someone finally arrived at Jiang Yuyan's home-the one she had been desperately waiting for. She lay next to Lu Lijun, holding his hand tightly, unable to sleep even for a moment.

A knock on her bedroom door brought her back to her senses. She stood up and opened the door, immediately throwing herself into the arms of the man standing before her. Hugging him tightly, tears streamed down her face as she spoke in a choked voice against his chest, "Where were you? Why did you take so long, Lu Feng?"

Strong arms wrapped around her in a comforting embrace. "I'm sorry. Calm down first."

She looked up at him with teary eyes. "He's not well. I'm not sure what to do when he wakes up."

"He'll be fine, don't worry. He's strong enough to handle it," Lu Feng assured her, wiping the tears from her cheeks.

"Until he's better, you're not going anywhere. He listens to you," she urged.

"Yes, I'm not going anywhere. Stop crying now," Lu Feng reassured her as they walked back into the room.

An Tian, who had been quiet until then, followed them. He went to Lu Lijun and checked on him while Jiang Yuyan explained Lu Lijun's reactions and behavior.

"How is he?" Jiang Yuyan asked, sitting on the bed next to Lu Lijun.

"If it were a physical issue, I could say something, but with psychic issues, I can only tell once he wakes up and I talk to him," An Tian replied. "But from what you've told me, we need to be careful. Even though he's strong mentally, sometimes the smallest thing can break someone. Given what Lu Lijun found out, we can't fathom the depth of its effect on him."

Her heart sank at An Tian's words. Lu Feng placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. He's my brother. I know him well. Even if he's hurt, he'll come back to his senses soon. He knows he has to protect you."

"It will take him a while to wake up. You should rest as well," An Tian suggested.

"We're here. You should sleep," Lu Feng urged.

She lay down in bed, her eyes on Lu Lijun, while Lu Feng covered her with a blanket. "Close your eyes."

Obedient as always, she closed her eyes. Lu Feng and An Tian sat on the couch.

An hour later, Lu Lijun stirred in his sleep. Jiang Yuyan, half-awake, immediately woke up. "Lijun, are you awake?" she asked softly.

He turned to look at her, still dazed from the long sleep and the effects of the medicine.

She caressed his cheek and offered a light smile. "Good morning."

He didn't reply, simply staring at her face. Her eyes were puffy, a clear sign she had cried for a long time.

"Say something," she urged, seeing him staring at her. She moved closer, hugging him and burying her face in his chest. "I want to hear you."

His hands gently wrapped around her. "I'm sorry for worrying you," he said, his voice hoarse.

"It's alright," she replied, looking up at him. "Just know that I love you, no matter what. You are my life." Her eyes turned moist.

"I know," he replied. She buried her face in the crook of his neck, hugging him tightly. "I love

you."

Lu Lijun let her hold him, reciprocating the hug, his empty gaze fixed on the ceiling.

After a while, she spoke, "You haven't eaten anything since last night. Let's get something to eat."

Lu Lijun simply hummed and watched her as she got out of bed. She offered him her hand. "Get up."

He accepted her hand and got out of bed. She gently pushed him toward the washroom. "Freshen up. I'll ask them to prepare your favorite food."

Without a word, he obeyed her.

She went out of the room, wondering where Lu Feng and An Tian had gone. Downstairs, she found Lu Feng sitting in the drawing room with Noah, Xiao Min, and San Zemin. They looked like they hadn't slept at all.

"Where is An Tian?" she asked.

"He's resting in the guest room," Lu Feng replied. "Is Lijun awake?"

She nodded and instructed the butler to prepare everything that Lu Lijun liked. Lu Feng stood up. "I'm going to him."

Jiang Yuyan nodded. "I'll wait here."

"Don't come upstairs unless I call for you," Lu Feng instructed before heading upstairs. He waited by the window for Lu Lijun to come out of the bathroom. When Lu Lijun emerged, he was surprised to see his brother standing there but quickly understood the reason for his presence. He offered a light nod, finding it difficult to say anything more.

"Good morning," Lu Feng greeted him.

Lu Feng walked towards him and stood facing him. "Do you have something to talk about?"

Lu Lijun shook his head, only to have Lu Feng hold his arms. "Look at me."

Lu Lijun raised his gaze to meet his brother's, guilt weighing heavily on him. "Lijun, I'm not going to beat around the bush. I know what you're feeling right now. If I were in your place, I'd feel the same, but there's someone who doesn't deserve to see you like this. You might blame yourself, but none of us do. Do you understand?"

In response, tears appeared in Lu Lijun's eyes. "You can cry all you want, but you can't allow yourself to break like this. Do you know what scares me the most?"

Lu Lijun looked at him, seeking understanding.

"What would happen if Yuyan found out why those people targeted Lu Qiang? Would she be able to handle the truth about why he really died?"

As the realization struck him, Lu Lijun immediately spoke, "She can't know."

Lu Lijun knew it well, the truth would break Jiang Yuyan entirely, that nothing would be same for her after that. He would lose her forever. Whatever it takes, she should never know it.
