Chapter 1277: Chapter 63 An Idyllic Life

Pannis lied; he hadn’t gone to bask in the sun because the noon weather was simply too hot, the sunshine far too harsh. Not wanting to turn into baked cheese, he had wisely taken shelter under the shade of a tree, his eyes squinting in a half-asleep, half-awake state.

In the City of Knowledge, the midday sun of summer was scorching, its light rampaging unrestrainedly, spreading its warmth to all it touched. The dazzling sunlight cascaded from the sky, illuminating the yard of No. 6 Fox Street. In the quiet and spacious courtyard, six oak trees displayed vigorous vitality, growing robustly, with five of them already mature, their nearly twenty-meter-high trunks standing tall and straight. The dense leaves formed a broad canopy, like a great sunshade casting cool shadows on the ground. Only the sixth oak was still in its growing phase, its tender trunk swaying gently in the breeze, provoking worries for its fragility.

Pannis lay spread out like an open-faced pancake on the grass under the shade in the courtyard. In the occasional breeze, he enjoyed the rare coolness of the summer day. Right by his face, an adventure water bottle with a straw was stuck in it, and with just a turn of his head, he could sip from it. Clearly, the drink inside the bottle was chilling to the bone, its surface covered with condensation beads, just looking at it could provoke a hot and thirsty sensation in one’s throat, making one yearn to grab the bottle and gulp down a few mouthfuls to alleviate the harm from the sunlight and the heat.

Pannis wasn’t lying under the shade by himself. Ava, the artificial girl, also lay beside him. Curled up, wrapped in a ball of golden hair, Ava rested her head on Pannis’s stomach, asleep by his side. Her golden hair, thick like a blanket, almost completely obscured her body. The tiny form of the artificial girl moved slightly up and down with Pannis’s breathing, as if she were in a cradle, looking incredibly comfortable. Yet, the girl didn’t seem satisfied with just this luxury; she clutched Pannis’s hand and placed it on top of her head, prompting him to gently stroke her hair from time to time. Whenever he did so, she would purr like a kitten and occasionally rub herself contentedly against Pannis’s stomach.

In another patch of shade, the four little ones who had just been sternly lectured by Catherine were gathered together, disheartened. Catherine’s powerful lecturing had sapped their energy, leaving them lifeless, sprawled on the ground. Even as Pansy and Mimosa tried to comfort them by their side, it had no effect. The little ones hung their heads like a group of wild grasses wilted under the harsh sun, losing their moisture. However, it was fortunate that they were temporarily not in the mood for mischief, which afforded Pannis a quiet moment to rest. Otherwise, by past customs, the little ones would have already been making so much noise that both ends of Fox Street would hear them, let alone a nap, not even a moment’s shut-eye would have been possible without being jolted awake by their commotion.

So, the two of them nestled together, occasionally a low whisper from the girls by their side, the sky above filled with the joyful song of sparrows and finches. Listening to these sounds which paradoxically highlighted the silence around them, Pannis couldn’t help but open his eyes and murmur softly, "This kind of leisurely, tranquil life, no matter how long it lasts, will never grow tiresome. I truly wish it could always stay peaceful and carefree like this."

"Why can’t it?" Ava, who appeared to be asleep, suddenly opened her beautiful eyes. Her long eyelashes blinked adorably, "You could live like this forever, couldn’t you? Isn’t this nice?"

"It would be nice to continue like this, of course, but as a person living in this world, there are always some things that one must do." Pannis sighed, wriggling his body against the ground like a worm, scooting over to rest against the trunk of an oak tree, while Ava, still lying atop him, amusingly scooted along with him without changing her position much, only shifting her pillow from his stomach to his thighs. Sitting up, Pannis glanced at the children not far away, ensuring they were alright, before speaking softly, "A peaceful and tranquil life isn’t just liked by me, you all enjoy it too, and most people in the world do. So, in order for you, and for everyone, to be able to live like this, some people just have to be less leisurely."

"This ’some people’, are you referring to yourself?" Ava’s blue eyes twinkled as she asked in confusion, "Based on your usual thought patterns, you seem preoccupied today."

"Hahaha, how could it possibly be about myself? You forgot, I am the one who hates trouble the most," Pannis said with a forced laugh. "And I don’t have any worries. Other than being dragged around by them to run everywhere, I have no concerns at all."

"Credibility at 7.7, it can almost be confirmed as a lie," Ava stated expressionlessly. "If we continue with the past statistical data for comprehensive analysis, the credibility would drop to 0.84, which is almost negligible."

"Hey, you jerk," Pannis said, his hands forcefully tangling the girl’s soft golden hair into a mess, discontentedly. "To become a real human, you have to learn what things should be said aloud and what, even if you understand, should not be verbalized. Only then can you be considered a truly qualified human."

"No, according to Catherine’s words, such behavior is called hypocrisy," Ava calmly denied. "She told me that I must not learn to be a hypocritical human; it’s better to stay as I am now." freewebnσvel.cѳm

"Well, I think that hypocrisy and euphemism are slightly different, although it’s indeed not easy to define the distinction between the two," Pannis scratched his head with a wry smile. "But you should continue learning from them. Though they’re not exactly normal, they are somewhat more so than I am."

"Hmm, I am trying," Ava said with a stern face. "My database has already recorded a large number of behavioral patterns, and I can always analyze and compare these against your behaviors. The part of behavior that I can’t find a reason for must belong to what you’ve always mentioned to me about individuality and emotional factors, right?"

"More or less. These things are actually quite complex and difficult to explain in words; you can only accumulate understanding bit by bit," Pannis sighed. "Actually, I think you’re already doing very well. Or to say, in some aspects, you can basically be considered a normal human now."

"Is that so?" Ava asked blankly. "Which aspects?"

"Do you really want to know? Or should I say, do you genuinely not know?" Pannis’s lips curled up, revealing a strange smile. "Those words you said in front of Catherine just now, were they really just like before, merely mechanical questions?"
