Wrong Love, Final Goodbye: She'll Never Look Back-Chapter 362: Get Engaged to Me
When Declan Pierce rushed in, Tanya was sitting by the bed, holding Old Master Sinclair’s already stiffening hand.
Declan’s throat moved slightly as he slowly walked in.
"Tanya..." he called softly, as if afraid a louder voice might startle her.
Tanya slowly lifted her head, her eyes red and dry, she had cried but could no longer shed tears.
Declan walked to her side, knelt down slowly, and gazed at Tanya’s pale, sorrowful face, a hint of pity flashed in his eyes.
He tentatively tugged at Tanya’s hand holding Old Master Sinclair’s, and seeing she did not resist, he gently clasped her cold hand in his palm.
"Declan..." Tanya whispered, "From now on, the Sinclair Family is just me."
Declan silently embraced her.
Sabrina suddenly pulled the corners of her mouth with difficulty, "Actually, there’s half of the Sinclair Family left... my biological father whom I’ve never met."
Declan remained silent for a moment, then said in a low voice, "We’ll find him. I promise..."
In the next two days, Tanya was busy preparing Old Master Sinclair’s funeral. With no relatives or friends to inform, the biggest decision she made was to move her grandmother, Iris Keene, from the basement to bury her alongside her grandfather, Horace Sinclair.
Declan was with her throughout, arranging manpower and the graveyard without Tanya needing to ask him. He even temporarily moved Aunt Tawny and Caden to Phoenix Court for care.
On the day of the burial, the sky was overcast, and light snow began to fall.
Declan held a black umbrella, standing by Tanya’s side.
He remained calm and composed even as he saw Iris Keene’s life-like body, which appeared no older than her early thirties.
"Grandpa told me he couldn’t save the one he loved... but you did," Tanya said softly.
She looked at Declan beside her, her eyes filled with too many emotions, so heavy it seemed as if her gaze had substance.
How can one person love another for so long?
How can one love another for so long?
"Declan, I seem to owe you a lot..." She just looked at him and felt a pang in her heart.
Although he was right there, she still felt so far away...
Declan raised his hand to smooth down her hair that had been blown messy by the cold wind.
"You don’t owe anyone, Tanya," he said warmly, "Everything I do for you, I do because I want to. That’s all."
After a pause, Declan continued, "If I didn’t want to, I would let go myself. So you don’t need to be responsible for me, don’t feel like you owe anything."
She didn’t have to love him...
After the funeral, Declan and Tanya returned to Phoenix Court. Caden still didn’t know what had happened.
The snow was heavy, leaving a white blanket in the garden.
Caden, rarely showing his childlike side, was building a snowman with Aunt Tawny, his little hands red from the cold.
Aunt Tawny was the first to see Tanya and Declan approaching, "Ma’am, Mr. Pierce."
She smiled warmly, her eyes full of admiration.
The Ma’am and Mr. Pierce, they looked so perfect together.
Caden rushed over to Tanya on his little legs, diving into her arms.
"Mom!"
Caden, observant as ever, immediately noticed that something was off with Tanya.
"Mom, what’s wrong?" Caden asked, a bit worried.
Tanya mustered her strength, smiled, and said, "Nothing, sweetie, I’m just a little tired..."
Declan glanced at Aunt Tawny, nodding slightly, "Aunt Tawny, could you please run a bath for Tanya?"
"Yes! I’m on it!" Aunt Tawny headed into the house.
Declan bent down to meet Caden’s eyes, "Caden, Uncle Pierce will play with you. Don’t you like Go? Shall we play a few games?"
Caden was still a child, and once he saw Tanya nod her permission, his attention shifted to his favorite game of Go.
"Okay!"
Before going upstairs, Tanya glanced at the living room where Declan and Caden were engrossed in their game, a warm and touching scene.
She silently tugged the corners of her mouth and stepped upstairs.
Just as she turned away, Declan looked up briefly, silently watching her back.
"Uncle Pierce, it’s your turn!" Caden’s voice pulled Declan’s attention back to the Go board.
Declan picked up a white stone and placed it on the board.
Caden stared at the board, pondering his next move.
"Uncle Pierce..."
"Hmm?" Declan replied nonchalantly as he placed another white stone on the board.
Caden suddenly asked, "Will you marry my mom?"
Declan’s hand paused for a moment over the board, then he nonchalantly picked up another stone.
"Why do you ask that all of a sudden?"
"Because my mom really likes you... but if you end up making her sad like Dad did..." he lifted his head, his gaze, so similar to Tanya’s, fixed on Declan seriously, "then you should leave my mom early, don’t make her sad."
Declan chuckled, ruffling Caden’s hair, but he didn’t answer his question.
After two games, it was Caden’s bedtime, and Aunt Tawny came to fetch him.
Declan was tidying up the Go board when, as he stood up, the world before him suddenly turned a blinding, dizzying white.
He closed his eyes, shaking his head hard.
The white light was swallowed by boundless darkness.
Declan struggled to support himself, relying on his familiarity with the house’s layout, he slowly made his way to the study, where his medication was in the drawer.
He poured a few pills and swallowed them directly.
The side effects were more rapid and intense than Dr. Wells had anticipated.
Declan closed his eyes, resting for a long time before opening them again, his vision restored.
It seems the plan needs to be expedited...
His phone vibrated annoyingly, and he answered it. On the other end, a voice, hoarse from years of smoking, spoke.
"I’ve caught the person... I’ll follow the plan. Don’t forget your promise." The voice turned menacing, "If you dare to play me..."
Declan laughed softly, the sarcasm heavy.
"Do you think you can take revenge on me? Besides cooperating with me and trusting me, you have no choice."
The other party was somewhat frustrated but knew he spoke the truth.
Declan said casually, "Stick to the plan. Don’t forget the most important rule... don’t really hurt her. You know the consequences."
After hanging up, Declan paused in silence before making a second call, this time to Wynn Winslow.
On the other side of the ocean, it was just sunset.
Wynn was delighted to see the call.
"Brother Pierce! You finally called me! I thought you had forgotten about me!" Wynn suppressed her excitement, shyly asking, "When will you come to see me? Or, should I visit you?"
Declan: "Wynn, there’s something I need to ask you..."
"What is it? If I can do it, I surely will..." 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Declan: "Marry me."
