Chapter 391: A Scene of Domestic Violence

Even though the great formation was gone, the Seventy-Two Swords seemed unchanged. The only difference was that the stone walls no longer had protective barriers of light, putting the sword techniques carved on them at risk of being damaged. The Shu Sword Sect could simply make more copies, though. It wouldn't cause them a significant loss.

Walking through the familiar training ground, Wang Sheng felt a wave of sentiment for bygone days.

The formation spirit senior kept asking about his cultivation progress and the state of the cultivation world. Although many young disciples had entered this trial over the years, the formation spirit could not possibly form deep bonds with each passing junior.

Wang Sheng merely recounted what had happened in the past two years. After all, he knew far less of what had happened to the world while he was trapped in the Earth Qi Seal than the formation spirit.

Continuing to call him the "formation spirit" felt unfitting now that the great formation was broken. Hence, Wang Sheng asked how to address him.

The sword spirit chuckled. "Just call me Nameless."

He had grown used to carrying himself with the pride of one in high authority, but before Spiritless, Nameless found it hard to keep up the act.

Wang Sheng introduced his senior sister and his younger sister to him. He spoke of the difficulty his senior sister currently faced: the danger of attempting to break through to the Nascent Soul Realm.

The sword spirit was truly a living relic of the cultivation world. In the past, he had even followed the Wenqu Star, who was under Ziwei's command. Perhaps he could open a new path for Wang Sheng and Mu Wanxuan.

As a senior who had a deep affinity with Wang Sheng, Nameless was willing to give his full support.

When they reached the eighth level of the Seventy-Two Swords, Nameless instructed in an ancient tone, "Have your senior sister reveal her Dao. Let me see how far she's gone in her cultivation."

Wang Sheng and Mu Wanxuan exchanged a glance. Already aware of why Wang Sheng had brought her out on this journey, she nodded slightly.

"I'll be your target, Senior Sister. Attack me with all you've got while Senior observes from the side."

"Mm..." Mu Wanxuan frowned faintly, clearly reluctant to beat up her own junior brother.

Wang Sheng smiled calmly and stepped into the center of the training ground, where he had fought countless duels with Nameless in the past.

Lightning began to arc around him, and his long hair slowly rose.

Having spent years tempering his Dao Body with heavenly tribulations, he could now withstand the attacks of a Nascent Soul Realm cultivator even without circulating his enchanted power. It would be a different story if the opponent had high-grade artifacts or extraordinary spells, though.

Mu Wanxuan nodded softly and gestured for Xiaomiao to step aside.

Xiaomiao's eyes filled with tears. She finally felt as though she had a bit of presence here.

Mu Wanxuan soon stood still and composed herself. She slowly raised her hands and formed a circle with them. Within her delicate palms, a pair of yin and yang koi condensed, chasing one another. Her slender hands trembled slightly, and she shifted her foot half a step forward. A black and white glow then swept across the ground, spreading outward until it enveloped Wang Sheng's position.

The Yin-Yang Grand Formation!

Standing his ground, Wang Sheng circulated his enchanted power to strengthen every part of his body, especially the front.

He didn't dare underestimate his senior sister's Dao of Balanced Yin and Yang. Though her realm was only at the late-stage of the Heavenly Abode Realm, which was two major stages beneath his own, she had always been adept at leaping realms.

Moreover, a man should never show cowardice before the woman he loved.

"Don't hold back," Wang Sheng gently instructed.

"Mm," Mu Wanxuan answered with grave seriousness. She swayed lightly, and the circle she held dissolved. Yin flowed to the left, yang to the right. The two merged into chaos within her.

Her long hair fluttered backward as she closed her eyes and sensed something profound. She thrust her palms forward, clenching them into slightly trembling fists midway.

A muffled thud resounded like a heartbeat. Two translucent fist phantasms flickered across the air and struck Wang Sheng's crossed arms squarely, hurling him backward. He slid across the ground, leaving two deep marks carved in the stone.

The rippling shockwave shook the entire mountain.

He was pushed back more than twenty meters before coming to a halt. By then, Mu Wanxuan had abandoned her stance and ran forward in concern. To avoid damaging the place, she had directed all her force at him.

Wang Sheng calmly lowered his arms, clasped his hands behind his back, and smiled at her. "I'm fine. You're incredibly powerful, Senior Sister. What do you think, Senior?"

"Yin and yang generate and balance one another. Though she's yet to condense her Nascent Soul, she already wields both forces to this degree..."

Nameless frowned slightly, regarding this otherworldly beauty as though she were a rare monster. He sighed deeply, then looked at Wang Sheng.

"If your senior sister manages to condense her Nascent Soul, what harm could a heavenly tribulation do to her? Should she enter the Primordial Immortal Realm, she could sweep through her peers. Your natural talent with the sword was enough to astonish me, but your senior sister is just as extraordinary!"

"Senior Sister is the reincarnation of a Heavenly Court immortal maiden," Wang Sheng explained calmly as he walked back with her at his side.

Nameless paused, then quickly offered a formal bow to Mu Wanxuan. "Pardon my rudeness. Please forgive me, Immortal."

Mu Wanxuan just shook her head gently.

"Huh?" Xiaomiao peeked out from behind Mu Wanxuan. In an innocent tone, she asked, "Big Brother, your arms are shaking. Are you okay?"

"What do you mean? My arms aren't shaking," Wang Sheng said as he flicked his sleeve, letting his arms hang naturally.

Xiaomiao giggled and carefully poked his left arm. Though Wang Sheng remained composed, a bead of cold sweat broke on his forehead. He swiftly evaporated it with his own power.

"Senior, what do you think?" Wang Sheng asked.

"I'd rather not carelessly give her advice. For now, have her comprehend these two sword techniques," Nameless replied.

With a wave of his hand, two of the small cauldrons that had been floating in the air descended gently. He drew out bamboo scrolls from within, pushed them forward, and sent them to Mu Wanxuan.

Hesitating, she glanced at her junior brother.

Wang Sheng smiled. "It's fine; comprehend them. I already cleared this stage before, so according to the rules of the Seventy-Two Swords, I'm permitted to view them."

Convinced, Mu Wanxuan accepted the scrolls and thanked Nameless.

Xiaomiao accompanied her to a corner. Nameless conjured two futons so that the reincarnated immortal maiden and Xiaomiao wouldn't have to sit on the bare ground.

Afterward, Nameless smiled warmly and transmitted, "Enough pretending. It's over."

Wang Sheng lifted his sleeves and looked at the two dents on his arms.

Mu Wanxuan's "little loving fists" were powerful enough to severely injure an unprepared Nascent Soul Realm cultivator.

With another gesture, Nameless summoned two bamboo chairs and a table. They sat and continued to discuss the Dao of Balanced Yin and Yang.

"Cultivation is, in the end, a personal journey," Nameless said softly. "I know you want to help your senior sister overcome the hurdle of condensing her Nascent Soul, but she's ultimately the only one who can get through it.

"Comprehension, accumulation, fortune, insight, enchanted power, and the Dao Body can all affect success. If you really want to help, then let her take her time and cultivate naturally. She's most likely to succeed that way."

"I see where you're coming from, but my senior sister is strong-willed yet simple-minded," Wang Sheng replied. "She simply wishes to catch up to me."

"The Dao is about the pursuit of immortality and freedom. Each person's path is different. Why compare at all?" Nameless chuckled. "Now, why don't you tell me what has happened to you since you left this place?"

Since Nameless couldn't do anything else to help, Wang Sheng just smiled bitterly. Obtaining two sword techniques that could benefit his senior sister was already an unexpected fortune.

As Wang Sheng recounted his experiences briefly, Nameless fell into thought.

The injuries on Wang Sheng's arms were only flesh wounds. He had taken the full force of her two fists. Had he dispersed the impact to the surroundings, the unprotected training ground would have truly been damaged.

His Pure Yang Enchanted Power slowly flowed through him. By the time he was almost done sharing his story, his arms had mostly healed.

"Have you ever heard of heavenly fate?" Nameless asked in a deep tone.

Wang Sheng blinked, then chuckled wryly. "Heavenly fate sounds far too vague and unreal."

"To ordinary cultivators, perhaps. But to true immortals, heavenly fate is an unavoidable trial." Nameless sighed. "While following my master, I've heard him speak of it with other immortals. When the Immortal Emperor fell, powerful forces from countless star domains attacked the Heavenly Court, partly because, at its prime, the Heavenly Court had claimed the orthodoxy of the Great Dao and thus seized the heavenly fate of the world.

"Those who entered the Heavenly Court and served its cause often found the difficulty of breaking through realms reduced. The farther one strayed from the Realm of Immortal Spirits, the thinner both primal qi and heavenly fate became."

"The Heavenly Court was destroyed, though. Its heavenly fate should have dispersed."

"It didn't. For reasons unknown, its heavenly fate never scattered. It's a great mystery. Even the immortals of that age could not unravel it, yet during their thousands of years in this realm, it certainly sheltered them.

"The gravely injured always found a sliver of life. Great Emperor Ziwei even broke through several times. If one year here wasn't equal to a thousand years outside, none of them would have been in a hurry to leave."

Wang Sheng's lips twitched as he stared at the old sword spirit.

"Why did you never tell me this last time? I stayed here for so long!"

Nameless stroked his beard and chuckled. "Hehehe. Your cultivation was still shallow at the time. Too much knowledge would only have unsettled your Dao Heart. Now, though, the heavenly fate of the Heavenly Court has passed onto the Daoist sects. And you, I suspect, got a major share of it.

"Unfortunately, I am but a sword. I have neither the means nor the ability to observe fate. I say this only to ease your mind. With strong fate upon you, you can also draw your senior sister into its current. She may even transform danger into fortune."

Nameless's words sounded strangely familiar to Wang Sheng. He frowned. "What exactly is heavenly fate?"

Slowly, Nameless explained, "To immortals of every realm, it means something different. To you now, heavenly fate can be regarded as both opportunity and fortune. I once heard my master say that those who are granted heavenly fate are inevitably drawn into events that affect the world's great cycle. If one can withstand its weight, then one gains immense benefits. If not..."

"If not, what?"

"They'll die even more horribly."

Wang Sheng blinked. Optimistically, he replied, "That shouldn't concern me. I'm not a reincarnation of a Heavenly Court immortal."

Nameless raised his brows, signaling Wang Sheng to turn. Wang Sheng looked and saw Spiritless's hilt.
