Chapter 88: Officially A Billionaire [Edited]

Inside the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the air was cool and calm.

James leaned back into the plush leather seat, with his body relaxed his mind was still occupied with the shocking system notifications he received during the meeting.

The smooth sound of the V12 engine was the only background noise as the Cullinan moved like silk down the winding coastal road of Rarotonga.

The sun reflected off the ocean in wide streaks of gold, and the waves continuously crashed gently against the beach.

Across from him, Leslie was busy scrolling through her phone lazily. She noticed a peculiar atmosphere in the car and turned to look at James, and eyes narrowed when she saw that he was... unusually quiet.

If it wasn’t for the fact that he had that usual smile of his one his face, she would had thought that something was wrong. But for some reason, she noticed that his smile was brighter than usual.

But she felt that there was still the need to ask, as she was concerned.

"So... you good?" she asked, with her voice, soft and filled with curiosity.

James turned to her and gave a rather genuine smile. Not like he doesn’t smile genuinely, but there was something about the smile that she can’t just place her finger on.

The smile wasn’t the smug grin she was used to. And it wasn’t the teasing smirk or the confident half-laugh he threw around so easily.

This smile was filled with so much emotions that she had no idea how to react. And she would be lying if she said that she wasn’t caught off guard.

"Better than good," James said simply.

Leslie nodded and quickly turned away, turning her attention back to her phone.

James closed his eyes briefly, leaning his head back against the seat as the breeze from the partially opened window kissed his face.

It’s been just over a month and almost close to two months since the system came into his life.

One month ago, he was drowning — drowning in debts, working part-time jobs they left no future prospects for him. He was skipping meals to save cash and grinding away at a future that felt like it was never going to come.

Almost two months ago, James was filled with anxieties, he had sleepless nights and and he was working himself as hard as he could so that he could survive.

But he has come so far with the system. Now, he no longer needs to worry about money or to anything money can buy.

But now, with the system, he can now take care of himself, Patty and Leslie, giving them the comfort and luxury that life has to offer. And he no longer doesn’t have to work part-time and stay awake past midnight everyday, depriving himself of sleep, and destroying his health.

He’s no longer that same college kid, who was drowning in debt and had no idea what the future holds for him. He now controls his future and he is going to achieve his dream of building a trillion dollar empire.

James smiled as he thought of the past. He was very curious to see the changes in his net worth and he immediately brought up his Info Screen.

James smiled when he saw the zeros in his account, especially the one in bracket.

"I’m now officially a billionaire," he muttered to himself.

To be honest, to James, everything so far has felt like a dream, like a movie and like Christmas came early.

He would be honest and say that he was still getting used to everything. To him, it felt everything in the past two months happened on a blur.

Even though he hasn’t done anything major in almost a month, except the two meetings he had with SouthPark Group Partners, he felt like everything should slow and allow him to catch his breath. But he knew that was impossible.

Another reason why James feels like the world should slow down is because they are already in a new year, but things didn’t feel any different, and yet feels different at the same time.

Christmas was two weeks ago and they just entered the new year last week, but they didn’t really notice it much because they have been enjoying themselves a lot.

Also, before the system and due to how difficult things were, they didn’t really celebrate Christmas and New Year as they were always preoccupied with other things.

Also, those two days that weren’t usually different from any other ordinary days for them.

This recent Christmas, James wanted to get Patty and Leslie Christmas presents but they refused, with smiles on their faces, telling him that he hasn’t gifted them something better — their current comfortable and luxurious life.

James smiled as his thoughts shifted to his latest physical asset — property in Upper East Side Manhattan.

A 90-unit luxury apartment complex now sitting right in the heart of New York’s elite.

Then there was the equities he now owns, making him a small shareholder in some of the top companies in the world.

James’ smile widened when he thought of how much dividends he will be receiving annually from these companies.

As for the the newly placed restriction by the system? The one saying rebate will no longer be applied to any transaction he makes with a company or business entity that belongs to him?

He was fine with it. He understood why it was done. The game has to balance itself. Yes, the system is broken in his favour but that doesn’t mean it has to collapse the world economic system.

Also, James feel like even if the restriction was placed on the general rebate application, taking away the function completely, he wouldn’t mind as he’s already set for life.

Substantial amount of shares in blue chip companies, real estate in two of the premium locations on Earth. And more than $50 million in raw cash. What else can one ask for? But he’s human and naturally, he’s greedy for more.

But that isn’t a bad thing, is it? They say that to be greedy is to be human and you can only succeed when you’re greedy.

Who said this? Does it matter? James already said it.

"There’s no more need for me to continue my college education," he muttered, as he thought to himself.

He feels that instead of wasting his time going to class and learning nothing that will benefit his finances, he should use that time well to learn everything he can about the corporate world he’s about to enter. And that’s exactly what he’s going to do.

He’s going to learn from real-world sharks. He’s going to walk into boardrooms with his own power backing him. He’s going to purchase companies, build infrastructure, influence industries, own media, fund biotech, back AI, acquire land and swallow rivals.

James doesn’t want to play the game with the world’s elites, he wants to be the game.

He smiled as he turned toward the window again, his eyes fixed on the horizon where the blue ocean met the blue sky, and a grin slowly stretched across his face.
