Witch, Fireball and the Evil God of Steam-Chapter 698 - 86: Dr. Ethan
Even in what appeared to be a kidnapping scene, Lindong and the black cat looked incredibly excited, and Ethan felt they did not have even the slightest respect for the hardworking kidnappers.
From Ethan's understanding of the two cats, Lindong probably caught the scent of conspiracy and fun, while Little Dark had long developed a keen interest in the moveable boxes on the street. If Ethan weren't there watching, this unruly black cat might well enact a scene from Grand Theft Auto in a dream, pulling over a car, dragging out the driver, kicking them, and driving away herself.
This is one bad cat.
As for the three burly men in black suits on the van, suspected to be kidnappers, they were quite professional. They locked the doors right after getting in and did not utter a single word.
Ethan also kept silent, leaning against the car window, watching the unpredictable cityscape outside. Since his transmigration, he hadn't thoroughly looked at the city's scenery for a long time. The black cat, however, was perched at the window, eyes sparkling bright.
"Ethan, Ethan, why don't you have such a big box at home?"
This sudden question caused an uproar among the kidnappers on the van. They stared in disbelief at the talking black cat, but their excellent professionalism allowed them to suppress their intense curiosity and remain silent.
Ethan facepalmed.
In modern society, there's no concept of magical creatures or talking cats. When he looks back on his life over the past twenty years, he knows he's lived in a world without superpowers, without the supernatural, or mysticism; all of that is pretty much just made-up nonsense.
As the sky darkened, the van drove onto the highway, this was the road leading out of the city.
This is a scene often seen in TV dramas, usually in crime-focused programs, the long shot of the white van gradually moving away on the highway, followed by a black screen with white text saying, "Little Sen has since disappeared and was never found again."
This program serves to warn children against getting into strangers' vans.
Ethan still didn't know the identity of the three men. It was clearly not something that had happened to him before; in his more than twenty years of life, he'd never been kidnapped. But then again, as someone with little savings like him, a regular office worker, there's simply no value in kidnapping him; he would never have the troubles of a billionaire.
Thinking of this, he glanced at Lindong.
On the other hand, Lindong, this exotic beauty with white hair and red eyes, might easily trigger a kidnapping incident just walking down the street.
If these three diligent kidnappers had come for this reason, Ethan could only sigh for their future fate. If this were in the Empire, the combined bounty for kidnappers like them wouldn't even come close to a fraction of Lindong's worth.
Leaving the city was a good thing.
This way, by the time the police find the van abandoned in the deep mountains, the shattered ice shards would likely have long melted, and they would only face an empty cabin, never knowing where its buyer went or what happened.
...
Hiss——!
Ethan was startled by his own thoughts, thinking that he, a law-abiding young man, had probably been corrupted by Lindong and Little Dark. Staring at the evening glow at the horizon in the distance, he found himself subconsciously contemplating the aftermath work.
He must clarify, he's really not a perverted serial killer.
"Ethan, Ethan, you haven't answered me yet!"
The black cat persisted, "Why don't you have such a big box?"
To be honest, it's because of poverty.
Ethan felt somewhat anxious inside. He was a staunch subway enthusiast, even feeling the pinch on occasions when he had to hail a taxi for work; buying a car worth hundreds of thousands, and then spending tens of thousands a year on parking and maintenance was absolutely out of the question.
"I see..."
The black cat withdrew her gaze from the distance and looked at the black-suited kidnapper who "invited" them into the vehicle, her face turned downcast, and her voice turned much colder, "Ethan is very poor, he cannot afford such a big box."
Darkness clouded Ethan's vision.
He always overlooked Little Dark's Mind Reading.
Faced with the chatting cat, the expression of the black-suited kidnapper finally relaxed, casting a curious look at the black cat, which made Little Dark frown, revealing her teeth just enough, "I said, Ethan is very poor, are you deaf?"
She figured this big guy in the black suit was either deaf or stupid.
Their lack of reaction convinced Little Dark of her assumption, and she could only teach this hopelessly foolish big guy step by step, "Hand over all your money, and this big box too!"
The darkness before Ethan's eyes deepened.
He could never have imagined this absurd scene unfolding before him—the three kidnappers encountered a robbery by the victims on their way to transferring them; losing not just their wallets, but even the white van used for the crime.
Ethan thought that if Little Dark succeeded, this might become one of the city's annual comedic mishaps.
"Little Dark, I told you not to resort to violence!"
He stepped in to stop the black cat's robbery, but this time the black cat straightened her body and argued, "There's no violence, I didn't plan on turning them into ghouls!"
After all, she felt that these three deaf and mute fools were not much different from ghouls already, "I used a tactful approach, hoping they would donate some money for poor us... This is a philanthropic activity! It's also for the sake of their own health, haven't all those comments under the videos said 'good people have a safe life'?"
