Chapter 43: Chapter 42: Emerald Flower Thorns

A faintly glowing Crystal Stone shot through the air.

Yin Yi saw its chance, flicked out a Vine Whip, caught the Crystal Stone, and stuffed it among its dense tangle of roots.

Immediately after, a bright green light erupted from its body.

[Energy +3.54]

[Wood Element Affinity +0.15]

Yin Yi’s Wood Attribute Affinity had now increased from 5.45 to 5.6.

It was only three or four Tree Spirits away from meeting the conditions for evolution.

When the Tree Spirit Boss on the other side realized the Crystal Stone Han Ning had thrown was dug out from one of its companions, it let out a deafening, furious roar and charged forward like a mad beast, as if it wanted to tear Han Ning to shreds.

"BOBO!!"

Yin Yi flashed forward, intercepting the enraged Tree Spirit Boss.

The battle began anew.

It all happened in a flash, taking only two or three seconds.

The other Tree Spirits still hadn’t recovered from the shock of the grenade blast.

Han Ning decisively rushed toward another downed Tree Spirit. He first tossed a grenade toward the other standing Tree Spirits to keep them stunned, then unloaded another clip into the one at his feet before expertly dragging it behind the Silver Lotus Wood Defense Line.

He cut open its head and removed the Crystal Stone. This time, Han Ning didn’t call for Yin Yi right away. Instead, he followed the same procedure, gathering the corpses of several other fallen Tree Spirits nearby and giving each one a "lobotomy."

In total, he collected four Crystal Stones of varying sizes.

The other downed Tree Spirits were too close to the ones still capable of fighting, so Han Ning didn’t dare risk it and had to give up on them for now. He took the four Crystal Stones, crept near Yin Yi, and suddenly shouted, "Yin Yi, catch!"

"BOBO!"

Yin Yi spun around and stuffed all the Crystal Stones Han Ning had tossed into its roots.

A bright green light flickered erratically across Yin Yi’s body.

Total Energy increased by 9.26.

Total Wood Element Affinity increased by 0.4.

As all four Crystal Stones were absorbed into Yin Yi’s body, its plant-like body instantly erupted in a blazing green flame.

It continued to battle the Tree Spirit Boss, its Vine Whips now burning with green flames.

At the same time, its body began to grow, section by section.

The pinkish-white flower on its head rolled in waves under the gentle breeze.

Specks of hazy, emerald-green light gathered toward it from all directions.

Before long, a thin, green membrane of light covered Yin Yi’s body. It shimmered brilliantly, making it look like a forest sprite.

When the light faded, Yin Yi’s appearance had changed dramatically.

Its height, originally just over a meter, had surprisingly shrunk to fifty centimeters.

Petals like Emeralds formed the main part of its body.

From a human perspective, the areas corresponding to its "chest" and "head" had become a log-like texture similar to the Tree Spirits, but the color was a faint white, not black.

Two clusters of faintly glowing green flame, like human pupils, were embedded on either side of its wooden head, serving as eyes.

On top of its head was still that same pinkish-white flower.

Its lower body was still a dense tangle of grayish-white roots.

However, as Yin Yi controlled them, these slender roots intertwined, growing thicker and longer to form something resembling human feet, allowing it to walk.

The two wing-like leaves that had been under its body grew larger, resembling a cape of two willow leaves, or perhaps wings, extending from Yin Yi’s back down to its roots.

Where the Vine Whips had once emerged, five new green leaves now sprouted on each side of its body, resembling the ruffles of a skirt.

Between the new leaves were two emerald-green vines.

Having successfully evolved into a Cuiwei Wood Demon, Yin Yi could now actually float in mid-air like a bird, relying on the pair of slender, pale green willow leaves on its back.

The enraged Tree Spirit Boss paid no mind to whether Yin Yi had evolved or not; it continued its frenzied charge.

"Ling!"

Yin Yi raised its vine-like arms and aimed at the Tree Spirit Boss.

In the next instant, a rapidly spinning, emerald-green, rhombus-shaped crystal materialized in front of Yin Yi.

Yin Yi gently waved a vine.

The rhombus-shaped crystal let out a sharp whistle and shot through the air like a green meteor, precisely striking the Tree Spirit Boss’s black torso.

KRA~KRAKRA~

The rhombus-shaped crystal embedded itself in the torso but didn’t detonate immediately; its surface began to flash violently.

With every flash, a new crack appeared on the boss’s body.

In the blink of an eye, the surface of the Tree Spirit Boss was covered in a dense web of cracks, like shattered porcelain.

With a loud BANG, the Tree Spirit Boss instantly exploded into a shower of fragments.

A Crystal Stone, gleaming with green light, fell from among the fragments and clattered to the ground.

"Ling~"

After finishing off the Tree Spirit Boss, Yin Yi chirped happily. It drifted over and sat on Han Ning’s shoulder like a child, gently rubbing his cheek with its glowing head.

"Yin Yi, I didn’t expect even your voice to change after evolving."

Han Ning gently stroked Yin Yi’s cheek but didn’t linger on the tender moment. "Quick, go help Teacher Lü and the others," he urged. "They’re about to be overrun over there."

"Lingling!"

Upon hearing this, Yin Yi obediently floated up and wobbled through the air toward Teacher Lü’s position.

Han Ning didn’t follow Yin Yi right away. Instead, he turned and shouted to the students still fighting the other Tree Spirits, "Fall back! We’re all retreating to Teacher Lü’s position to fight alongside them!"

As he shouted, he ran to the back of their position, scooped up a poisoned and unconscious student with one arm, and charged toward the other side.

Discovering their boss was dead, the Tree Spirits became even more frenzied, charging recklessly toward Han Ning and the others.

But by fighting as they retreated, they successfully regrouped with Teacher Lü’s party.

Just as they reached the new position, a bright green light erupted ahead of them.

Yin Yi’s small body was hovering in front of a five-meter-long Iron-toothed Snake.

Before it, a dense array of green, rhombus-shaped crystals had materialized.

The crystals converged like a giant, overturned bowl, with each rhombus spinning at an incredible speed.

So many crystals gathered together formed a blooming Emerald flower.

"Ling!"

With a clear cry from Yin Yi, the spinning crystals shot outwards like cannonballs, WHIZZING through the air.
