Chapter 124: Chapter 97: Daughter in the Cage

Mu Yunchu opened the door and found that standing outside was the middle-aged owner of the wedding supplies shop across the street, Zhu Ping.

It had only been a few days since they last met, yet his entire demeanor had undergone a drastic change.

His hair was clumped in patches all over his head, and he hadn’t even had time to fix the collar inside his jacket, indicating how rushed he must have been when he left.

The moment the door opened, his hand, which he hadn’t had time to withdraw, remained frozen in mid-air. His slightly cloudy eyes lit up with excitement as he realized it was Mu Yunchu in front of him.

"Miss Mu, you’re here."

"Something’s happened at home, please help me look at my daughter." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

"It seems like she’s possessed!"

Zhu Ping had only this treasured daughter, raised with such care, and if something were to happen to her, it would break his heart.

These simple three sentences were enough to give Mu Yunchu a general idea of what was going on.

Mu Yunchu glanced back over her shoulder.

Li Shang did not follow her out, so to Zhu Ping, she was standing there alone.

However, she suddenly said, "It shouldn’t be urgent over there, right? I’ll deal with this matter first and then come to you."

From her words, Zhu Ping understood that she had agreed to his request.

So, he didn’t question who she was talking to or if she was talking to the air. Instead, he assumed someone was standing behind the half-closed door, out of his line of sight.

...

Zhu Ping’s home wasn’t far from there, not even requiring a car ride.

Walking would take just a little over ten minutes.

Otherwise, he wouldn’t have chosen to open his shop here.

Though Zhu Ping was visibly anxious, he still briefly explained to Mu Yunchu what had happened along the way.

"You say she’s possessed; why do you think so?"

When ordinary people talk about possession, it’s generally believed to be caused by ghosts or evil spirits, leading to bizarre behaviors, incoherent speech, and loss of control.

However, she still wanted to hear why Zhu Ping thought this way.

"Well..."

Zhu Ping seemed to struggle, as if it was difficult to describe with his current vocabulary.

He remained silent for a moment, unable to put it into words.

"Perhaps you should see for yourself."

Mu Yunchu nodded and didn’t press the issue further.

Under his lead, she walked into a residential complex.

As they passed the gate, the young security guard at the entrance greeted Zhu Ping warmly.

"Back already, Uncle Zhu!"

"Is this a family member?"

Zhu Ping, in a foul mood, didn’t intend to chat, but since this young security guard had helped him many times and saw him almost daily, he forced a slight smile.

"Ah."

But he only responded with a single sound to acknowledge.

His cold attitude didn’t prevent the guard’s curious gaze from sticking to Mu Yunchu.

Not until they disappeared around the corner of the complex did the guard reluctantly withdraw his gaze.

When they reached a quiet place, Mu Yunchu thoughtfully asked, "Uncle Zhu, are you close with the security guard here?"

Zhu Ping was puzzled.

But he answered frankly: "Not exactly close, but he’s helped me out a few times. Especially when heavy packages arrive at my home and I’m busy with the shop, he helps me bring them upstairs."

He had to admit, the property fee was well worth it.

The attitudes of the security and cleaning staff were very good.

He answered Mu Yunchu’s questions while moving upstairs.

When the elevator doors opened, and after he finished speaking, he took out the key from his pocket.

As the door with the couplets opened, the interior was oppressively dark, as if it were another world, entirely shut off from the bright sunlight outside.

Mu Yunchu noticed that all the curtains inside were drawn, blocking even the slightest light from entering.

It was hard to imagine this as a place where normal people would live.

"I’m sorry, it’s a special situation," Zhu Ping quickly said, "No need to change shoes, just come in directly."

The house was very quiet.

Mu Yunchu could feel that Zhu Ping was also deliberately keeping quiet.

His reaction was as if he was afraid of waking something up.

Passing through the living room, the door to the north bedroom was pushed open, and upon seeing the scene inside, Mu Yunchu understood his series of reactions.

There was only a single bed in the room. At the moment, a woman was sprawled on it.

Sprawled, in the sense that her entire body was kneeling on the ground, with only her arms and head resting on the bed. She seemed to have dozed off from exhaustion.

Her gaze moved to the side, and Mu Yunchu’s pupils trembled slightly.

The hulking object in front of her eyes was a two-meter by two-meter iron cage.

Inside the cage, there was a figure with disheveled hair, something that could still be called a ’person.’

Zhu Ping’s eyes revealed unease.

Whether it was his sleeping wife or his daughter in the cage, it was like a sharp knife repeatedly cutting into his heart.

He walked in softly and gently shook his wife’s shoulder.

The latter instantly woke, reflexively glancing at the cage.

Once it was confirmed that everything inside was still quiet, she sighed with relief.

Thank goodness, it was still asleep.

Yet, just as the two were relaxing, due to her possibly kneeling too long, his wife’s legs had gone numb, causing her to stumble and fall to the ground again. As she braced herself, she knocked over the half-eaten bowl of porridge, shattering it.

In an instant, the sound of ceramics breaking and a creature hitting the iron cage echoed simultaneously. Accompanying this was a hoarse, deep growl.

Mu Yunchu looked towards the source of the sound; the person curled up in the corner had been awakened by the commotion. With disheveled hair, sunken eyes, and a jaundiced face, she resembled a ghost, clutching the bars of the cage, using all her strength to escape.

But her strength wasn’t great, so she could only whimper faintly, like a trapped beast.

The couple expressed their pity, but in such a scenario, there wasn’t much they could do. They could only stand aside, watching with concern.

The woman struggled for a while, suddenly releasing the cage bars, clawing at herself with her fingers.

Bloody scratches appeared, overlaying the unhealed ones.

By the faint light, Mu Yunchu could see there wasn’t an inch of skin untouched on her body.

This must be the daughter Uncle Zhu mentioned as being possessed. Out of compassion, Mu Yunchu lowered her gaze, her eyes darkening in the shadow.

Once they had settled, Mu Yunchu was already waiting on the sofa outside.

The couple, perspiring from exertion, exchanged a glance before Zhu Ping was elected to speak with Mu Yunchu.

Of course, they weren’t entirely sure of Mu Yunchu’s abilities and had come to her out of desperation.

"Miss Mu, about my daughter... do you think she’s possessed?"

"And also, can you solve it?"

As Zhu Ping finished asking, both he and his wife saw Mu Yunchu shaking her head.
