Who Said A Necromancer Can't Be A Priest?-Chapter 92: Descent

The high priest stood at the highest point of the temple, smiling as fire rained upon the castle. The sight brought him peace. They were doing what a demon refused to do.

Once Aurelia is destroyed, I will hunt that demoness. She, too, must pay the prize for her treachery.

Below him stood a massive army of warriors, mages, and priests. Even the demon king would falter seeing the sheer size of their army.

It was all thanks to the Emperor's secret support, or else the magic tower wouldn't have come to their support.

Victory was within his grasp.

With a smile, the high priest raised his hand.

The mages fired the most devastating spell known to humankind.

Sky trembled as countless balls of fire rose overhead. They traveled in an arch, twisting and turning as before falling towards the castle.

Lucien… you will pay for your sins with your life.

The priest gripped the railing, barely controlling his emotions. It was done. Nothing could save them now.

Until… something did.

Just before the meteors could hit the castle, a golden barrier emerged, shrouding the castle. The meteors should have burst through the barrier, hitting the castle.

Instead, they bounced off the barrier. No one expected that to happen. They weren't prepared for such a situation and paid a heavy price for it.

The screams they had enjoyed thus far, were now coming out of their own mouths. Thousands of people died in initial explosions and thousands more followed, burning alive.

Just like that, the once-mighty army was thrown into chaos.

Hundreds more died in the stampede that followed.

The victory that was within their grasp had been snatched away… by one man.

Meanwhile, outside the castle.

Aaran had no intention of keeping his powers a secret anymore. Because none of the enemies would leave Aurelia alive. He would kill them from the front, while Aurelia's army would hunt them from behind.

Aaran had forged his father's signature and gave them the order to return, killing everything they saw. Kiara was helping him as a super fast courier, in exchange for the ledgers he found in Medibi.

That said, he knew the barrier would disappear soon, and he had to prepare for that event.

"Darius."

"Already done, little liege."

The ghostly spirit slipped out of Aaran's core and struck the ground with his axe. In a second, a massive icy wall surrounded the castle. While not as effective as [Hymn of Protection], it was enough to give them temporary respite.

Aaran followed by summoning all his undead.

Brute and the goblins helped in the evacuation of those who were alive. Cerbie stayed by Aaran's side. There was something they needed to do together. As for Dread… he stood there motionless.

Aaran was about to yell at him when a voice called out to him.

"Aaran…" Lucien panted. "It's… really you?"

"Yes, father. It's me."

"How—?"

"I know there's a lot we need to talk about," Aaran said, cutting him off. "But first we need to deal with these backstabbers."

Lucien swallowed his words back and nodded. Without Aaran asking for it, Lucien turned to Dread.

"Amara will kill me for this," he sighed. "But it is the only way to protect us."

Aaran looked at Dread and smiled. It seemed the big ape was going to get his wish answered.

Lucien gestured for Dread to sit. A moment later, he began chanting and drawing a magic circle.

Everyone stopped what they were doing and watched on as a blinding light enveloped Dread's ape form.

The curse was lifted.

Dread, the frost giant, was back in business.

The giant was much taller than the barrier Darius had erected. He wasn't a giant… he was a titan.

The army which had barely stabilized following the misfire was struck by another disaster. The appearance of a giant shocked them.

With Dread, Darius, and Brute there, the castle was secured, but victory wasn't. Not in Aaran's eyes. He didn't care if they were fighting their own people, or that they were manipulated.

From the moment they hurt Aurelia, all Aaran saw were backstabbers.

And backstabbers had no right to live.

Even if it meant going against his in-laws.

Aaran couldn't help but joke, even in such a stressful moment. But it was true. Seraphina's mother controlled the magic tower. Since they were against Aurelia, he would have to deal with her.

Not to mention the Emperor. Although he wasn't involved directly, Aaran would not leave him be. But for now, he had other things in mind.

"Brute, collect all the corpses."

"Son! You can't be—!"

"It's not what you're thinking, Father," Aaran replied. "I won't raise them. I'll give them salvation."

While Darius and Dread kept the forces at bay, Brute and Cerbie gathered the dead. Aaran sighed when he saw their charred bodies.

It was ironic. Aurelia's sworn enemies, the barbarians, had sacrificed themselves to protect them, while the so-called allies wanted them dead.

Aaran squatted down to their level, clasping his hands.

"O great mother of all," he prayed. "Hear their unjust plight and guide them in your warmth-filled light."

"…how can you perform a prayer?"

Lucien was stunned. The incompatibility between divinity and darkness was the reason he gave up on necromancy and became a priest. Yet his son had accomplished what he couldn't.

The synergy between two anti-forces.

[The Goddess of Salvation accepts her priest's request.]

[Your divinity has reached its limits.]

The obsidian locket around Aaran's neck shimmered. Cracks formed on the obsidian as if something was trying to break out of it.

[Goddess's descent will now begin.]

Meanwhile, the high priest had gone berserk. He was yelling at everyone, wanting answers no one had.

Who erected that barrier?

How could there be undead present in the castle?

They wanted to inform the Emperor about everything, but they couldn't. The barrier they had erected to nullify all communications was now working against them.

In desperation, they sent a messenger to ride outside the barrier and inform the Emperor that way. Unfortunately, that messenger crossed paths with the returning Aurelian knights and, according to Aaran's, no, Lucien's instructions was killed on sight.

The high priest was panting in rage when he noticed something. A surge of divinity erupted from within the castle, and then they saw it…

A massive foot appeared from the sky.
