After being kicked out of the palace, Analeis quickly approached the teleportation circle. She wanted to get out of Velrune as soon as possible, but misfortune followed her. The teleportation circle mysteriously malfunctioned just before it was her turn.

Next, she approached the carriages and was willing to pay ten times the usual price. But none agreed to take her.

It was the Emperor's doing, but Analeis didn't have time to dwell on such things. She had to leave, even if it meant going on foot. Time was running out.

Then, she felt it.

Someone, no, at least a dozen people, were following her. They were the Emperor's hounds, an elite assassin group that didn't care about honor, pride, or doing the right thing.

The Emperor's bidding was their sole purpose in life, and since Analeis had disrespected him, she had to die. Contrary to her suspicions, danger wasn't just behind her.

As she entered an alley, several people dressed like hooligans appeared before her. But they were no hooligans—their mannerisms gave them away. They were the Emperor's knights.

Surrounded by knights and hounds, Analeis had no choice but to fight. Unfortunately, the fight wouldn't be over, even if she killed them all. They had already informed other groups, and they were headed in their direction.

They charged at her. Analeis threw her bag aside and drew her axe. If she was going to die, she'd take as many of them as she could.

"Come, let me put you and your next generation in hell!" she yelled.

The assailants ignored her warning like the blabbering of a fool and kept charging.

Big mistake.

As a knight neared her, she swung the axe in a vertical arc. The knight yelped in pain as the axe got buried between his legs.

The knights and hounds stopped for a second when they saw it, instinctively thinking about their bloodline. Now they realized what Analeis's warning meant. She would literally send their children to hell.

That was all the time Analeis needed. Jumping on top of the man with the bleeding crotch, she buried her axe into the side of the building before climbing up.

The knights and hounds shouted and cursed, following her. However, when the men reached the terrace, they found Analeis smoking a cigarette without care. More importantly, she wasn't alone.

A woman dressed in a black gown stood next to her, a translucent veil covering the lower half of her face. One hound immediately dropped his weapon and literally began shivering, as if he had seen a demon.

"What's wrong with you?" someone asked.

The man, paralyzed by fear, pointed toward the woman near Analeis before jumping off the building. He would have survived the fall since they were trained for it, if only his head hadn't exploded mid-air.

People shrieked below as his corpse exploded, leaving nothing behind. Panic led to a stampede. The so-called backup won't be arriving to save the hounds and knights for a while.

"Oh my," the veiled woman gasped. "I didn't think my deadly charm could kill someone."

Analeis rolled her eyes. She didn't want to work with a dark mage, but she did because Aaran told her to.

Aaran had introduced Kaira and Analeis before he went to help Eleanor. Kaira had warned them that the Emperor might do something to Aaran while he was unconscious.

How did she know that? Aaran didn't bother to ask, not like she would have answered him either way. But she had probably walked into his dream or something.

Either way, Aaran said he wasn't sure what would happen to him. So, if he acted out or did something uncharacteristic, Analeis was to leave Velrune with Kaira's help and warn his parents about it.

He didn't think much would come out of it, but at least they would know that Aaran wasn't intentionally hurting him. Analeis, however, asked Aaran to escape, but he gave her his usual smile and walked away.

"Tsk, it's annoying that we couldn't stop that bastard Emperor even after knowing about his plans."

As the cigarette burned out, Analeis picked up her axe again.

"Um… you are supposed to stay back, remember?" Kaira whispered.

"I don't like your way of doing things," Analeis replied, stepping on the cigarette stub. "It's messy."

"Spoken like a true maid," Kaira chuckled, not willing to back down. "You can take part, but let's make a game out of it."

"A game?"

"Let's see who kills the most people."

"If I win, you'll give me a pack of the most premium cigarettes from the Marki Empire."

"And if I win, you'll sign over the rights of your corpse to me, hehe."

Analeis sighed. She would never understand what went on inside the head of a necromancer, whether it was Aaran or the twisted witch.

"Fine."

"Woo-hoo! Let's do this!"

Meanwhile, back at the palace, Aaran and the Emperor were inside the treasury. However, Aaran was more interested in what he had seen in Eleanor's dream than in a reward.

"Is… the princess alright?" he asked.

"Better than she has ever been," the Emperor replied. "She has been expressing her desire to meet you. Unfortunately, you passed out afterward, so she couldn't do it."

Aaran nodded. Eleanor was fine, but recovery would take time. Since they were on the topic, Aaran could have asked about the Empress, but the Emperor beat him to it.

"Eleanor told me what she went through in her nightmare. I'm sure you want to know how a mother could be so cruel to her daughter."

"…Only if Father feels comfortable telling me about her."

"Comfortable, huh?" The Emperor sighed, shaking his head. "It doesn't matter. But I'll tell you something Eleanor doesn't know. That woman… she wasn't her mother."

No surprise there.

Aaran had figured that much out himself. He wanted to know who she was. After all, she had made a contract with a demon, and unlike popular belief, not just anyone could form demonic contracts.

Unfortunately, their conversation was cut short when the Emperor pricked his finger, smearing the blood over a statue. A moment later, the statue moved aside, unveiling a hidden treasure.

A small, emerald stone filled with incomprehensible darkness. The Emperor retrieved it, handing it to Aaran.

"This is our family's heirloom," he said. "The work of generations and our most prized possession. The Necromancer's Stone."
