Who Said A Necromancer Can't Be A Priest?-Chapter 60: Son-In-Law’s Authority
Aaran ignored the shocked crowd and walked straight to the infirmary. He would deal with the chaos later. Right now, there was someone he needed to apologize to.
"You did well, Your Highness."
Analeis greeted Aaran as soon as he stepped out of the hall. He gave her a small nod before his eyes landed on the axe strapped to her back.
"Just being careful," Analeis shrugged. "You never know."
"I feel safer already," Aaran said with a smirk. "I assume you've already told Mother about the duel."
"Just as you asked."
Aaran nodded. Analeis's loyalty to his mother, Amara, was still strong, but he could see that his own influence over her was growing.
Without another word, Aaran pulled out a pack of cigarettes and tossed them to Analeis.
"I want some time alone," he said. "Find a quiet place and keep yourself entertained."
To his surprise, Analeis crushed the pack in her hand and threw it away. In all nineteen of his lives, this was the first time she had ever refused.
"I'll wait for you outside," she said, standing guard at the door.
Aaran entered the room and saw Seraphina lying on the bed. Her eyes were closed, and her body was wrapped in bandages. By her side, her maid, Rosaline, sat holding her hand.
Aaran cleared his throat.
Rosaline quickly wiped her tears and stood up. "My apologies for not noticing you, Your Highness."
"It's alright," Aaran said, looking at Seraphina. "How is she?"
"Her wounds will heal by morning," Rosaline replied. "There's no danger to her life."
"That's good."
Since Seraphina was safe and sedated, Aaran had no reason to stay. But just as he turned to leave, Rosaline spoke up.

"Your Highness, your arm…?"
Aaran had completely forgotten about his broken arm. He had planned to heal it using the [Charm Store], but now that he was here, he might as well let the healers take care of it.
"I'll call a healer," Rosaline said.
Before she could leave, a stretcher was carried into the room, holding a bloodied priest. She gasped, covering her mouth in shock.
While the healers had worked on Seraphina, Rosaline had wished for the priest's death. But now that part of her wish had come true, she couldn't believe what she was seeing.
"Don't pity him. He's alive," Aaran said, "for now."
Suddenly, Rosaline fell to her knees, unable to control her tears.
"T-Thank you, Your Highness… Thank you so much."

"All done," the healer said, washing his hands. "Your arm is good as new."
"Thank you," Aaran replied, wearing the shirt with Analeis's help.
He had just started buttoning it when two knights entered the room. Analeis immediately stood before Aaran, ready to draw her axe. But Aaran tapped her hand, gesturing her to step aside.
After training under Igor for so long, he knew these two knights well. They were Igor's adopted sons and enforcers. If Igor had sent them, it meant the temple would not let this go—and neither was the academy.
Guess I hurt Igor's ego by siding with the Emperor. At least that's what the temples want me to think.
Aaran expected some trouble after the duel, but he didn't think Igor would refuse to defend him. No, it wasn't like Igor. He wouldn't go from offering the headmaster position to Amara to suddenly abusing his powers over an ego trip. Something must have happened.
Not that it mattered. He would not face any real consequences. After all, he had broken no rules during the duel.
"You need to come with us, Prince Aurelia," Gabriel, the blonde knight, said.
"Of course," Aaran replied.
But when Analeis tried following them, Asmol, the other knight bald knight, stopped her.
"Headmaster has called for Prince Aurelia, not you."
"I'm afraid she'll have to come with me," Aaran interrupted.
"That's not up for discussion—!"
"Then you can return and tell the headmaster to come see me himself."
Aaran tone remained polite, but his words were disrespectful to a whole different level. Predictably, the knights weren't amused with his tone, but Aaran didn't care.
Aaran had no reason to listen to the knights. Nor would he refuse to use his status as the Emperor's son-in-law. As long as he was in Velrune, no one could force him to do anything. Not even Igor's sons.
"How dare you—?" Asmol snarled, reaching for his sword.
"That's cute," Aaran chuckled. "You'll draw your sword against a member of the Imperial family?"
"Imperial family…"
Asmol clenched his jaw, but stepped back. His position in the academy meant nothing against the Emperor's family.
However, they were surprised. Aaran had never used his connection to the Emperor before. In fact, he always acted like he didn't care about the imperial family.
But now, he was using his power openly, and there was nothing they could do about it.
"I won't meet the headmaster without protection," Aaran announced, pointing to Seraphina's room. "His refusal to intervene is enough for me to not to trust anyone in the academy for student safety."
The knights sighed in frustration, but agreed to Aaran's conditions.

"How dare you!?" The high priest yelled through his metallic mask. "You nearly killed a priest. That's blasphemy."
Instead of reacting, Aaran yawned. Analeis promptly handed him a peeled apple, sliced by her trusty axe.
Aaran's nonchalant behavior enraged the high priest even more. But before he could say another word, Aaran laughed.
"Prince Aurelia," Igor said, "would you mind sharing the reason for your laugh?"
"I was just wondering, what would other noble houses think about today's incident?" Aaran smiled, eyeing the high priest. "The academy allowed an unaffiliated individual to assault the hero's daughter under the guise of a test."
He continued, "And now, the director has summoned the person who stopped other nobles from facing the same fate, only to treat him like a criminal?"
"No one is treating you like a criminal, Your Highness," the high priest interjected.
"Then what's this?" Aaran said, pointing around the room.
Several guards and priests were surrounding him while he was being interrogated. If that wasn't criminal treatment, then Aaran didn't know what it was.
"This is your own fault," the high priest said. "Your reckless actions—"
"Reckless? So now self-defense is reckless?" Aaran cut in.
"It doesn't excuse what you did—"
"Then let's talk about what your priest did to my fiancée first."
Aaran placed Seraphina's medical report on the table for everyone to see. The high priest opened his mouth to respond, but Aaran beat him to it.
"If what your priest did to a student was within the rules, then what I did to him was also within the rules," he said, getting up to leave. "That's the only answer you're going to get from me."
"I didn't ask you to leave!" the high priest exploded.
"And I don't think you have the authority to do that, either," Aaran scoffed. "Have a good day, Your Holiness."
With that, Aaran and Analeis left the room. The high priest turned to Igor, hoping he'd back him up. Instead, he shrugged.
"You can't let him walk away!" the high priest demanded. "You have to pay the debt to the temple for saving your life."
"You used that favor to summon him," Igor said. "With that, I have paid my debt. You can leave now."
"This isn't the end."
"I believe it is."
The high priest was fuming as he left, followed by his followers.
