Who Said A Necromancer Can't Be A Priest?-Chapter 41: Patience
Aaran sprinted through the clearing, his eyes drifting between Cerberus and the massive tree that it protected. Cerberus had tried clawing its way into the tree but failed. The tree, strengthened by the dungeon's core, couldn't be harmed from the outside.
While the opening wasn't big enough for Cerberus, Aaran could comfortably enter and look for the core.
Meanwhile, Brute and the goblins were keeping the beast occupied. Cerberus's jaws kept snapping as it spewed fire in all directions.
But Brute wasn't one to back down. Since he couldn't get close to the beast with its constant fire attacks, he slammed his leg on the ground, splitting it apart.
The crack sped towards the beast, but Cerberus jumped to safety. However, as it did, Brute began hurling massive rocks at it.
Cerberus showed off its agility, dodging the rocks with little to no effort, but it forgot about the goblins.
Wherever it jumped, goblins were already there with spears to stab it.
A beast wasn't used to facing such coordinated attacks and was quickly overwhelmed by the goblin's teamwork. As its frustration grew, so did its injuries. For every wound that healed, the goblins gave it two more.
All those days we spent in the daily dungeon are finally paying off.
Watching them fight so well made Aaran feel like a proud father. Unfortunately, he couldn't watch them for long. He had to reach the dungeon before Cerberus turned its attention to him.
Just as that thought crossed his mind, something hot rushed past his head.
Aaran turned around and saw one of Cerberus's heads turned towards him. Had it not been for Brute's last-second punch, he would have been engulfed in flames by now.
Cerberus was tired of the constant interference and bit Brute's arm. Before Brute could react, Cerberus bit his entire hand off. The undead didn't react and reached to crush the beast with his remaining hand.
But Cerberus didn't stay put.
As Brute leaned in to attack, the beast jumped over his shoulder, running towards Aaran.
"Fuck!"
Aaran hastily summoned two goblins as Cerberus lunged at him. The goblins met Cerberus in mid-air. Armed with spears, they attacked the beast.
One goblin thrust its spear into one of the beast's heads, but the other was completely off the mark.
Enraged, Cerberus's remaining heads bit into the goblin who missed. The undead got torn apart in half before it touched the ground.
The other goblin rushed at Cerberus, intending to distract it. But the beast had had enough and backhanded the goblin into the tree. The goblin slumped against the tree, but Aaran didn't have time to thank it for the sacrifice.
He ran with all his strength, which wasn't much to begin with.
Come on, a little more!
Cerberus didn't have time to lick its wounds and once again charged at Aaran. It was naturally faster than Aaran and caught up to him in no time.
But Aaran had something Cerberus did not.
Experience.
Aaran raised his revolver, but instead of aiming at Cerberus, he pointed it at the ground.
"Eat dirt!" Aaran yelled, pulling the trigger.
The ground exploded right before Cerberus. Dust and dirt shot up, forming a thick smokescreen between Aaran and the beast. Yet Cerberus didn't stop. It tore through the dusty veil, which was exactly what Aaran expected it to do.
In the midst of the dust, a silhouette caught Cerberus's eye, and it lunged at it, expecting it to be Aaran. Instead, a fist slammed into its side, sending it skidding across the ground.
A moment later, Brute's massive figure appeared before it.
Cerberus was confused.
Brute should have been in the back, so how did he end up in front?
The answer was simple.
It was the vault's doing.
Aaran could summon the vault anywhere, as long as it was in his line of sight. He knew Brute couldn't catch up to Cerberus, so after summoning the goblins, he called Brute back into the vault.
He did the same after firing the gun and summoned Brute between him and Cerberus.
"Keep the dog busy till I get back!"
With Brute protecting his back, Aaran fearlessly slid into the roots, entering the dungeon.
Cerberus tried to follow Aaran, but Brute grabbed its tail and yanked it away before pointing at himself, as if saying he was the creature's opponent, not Aaran.

Hidden in the trees beyond the clearing, a group of hooded figures watched the battle unfold with awe. They've underestimated the boy. But the battle before them had changed their opinion.
"I can't believe that kid is fighting that beast," one of them said. "Master told us not to anger the Cerberus at any cost, and yet…"
"I had my doubts regarding the kid and his toys, but they are good," another one chimed in.
Their chatter was cut short when the leader, Prior, stared at them. They weren't there to blabber. The abbot had given them a mission to complete.
"Shouldn't we follow the kid?" the worshipper whispered. "If we wait too long, we might lose him."
But Prior shook his head.
"We wait."
The worshipper frowned but said nothing. They all knew better than to question Prior's decisions, as he was just as crazy as the abbot.

Below them, the battle between the undead creatures and the Cerberus raged on. The beast roared in fury, but that's all it could do. Because of Darius's cheering, its movements had become sluggish. The goblins were relentlessly stabbing it, making it worse for the creature.
Brute, even with one arm missing, remained as strong as ever. He grabbed the beast by its middle head and slammed it into the ground while the goblins gave it countless wounds.
"The beast will fall soon," Prior mumbled. "The ogre would be gravely injured by the time that happens. As for the goblins, they are weak. Killing them would be easy."
"What about the boy?"
Prior rolled his eyes and the man's stupidity.
"Without his army to protect him, capturing the boy would be a piece of cake," he said. "The abbot will get the boy and we will get whatever the boy finds inside the tree."
