"Standby Phase—’Mirage of Nightmare’ activates. I draw until I have four cards." Jaden drew.

Kira drew, then glanced at Jaden’s field.

With the anime effect, Skyscraper would also boost Bladedge’s ATK when attacked, meaning it was effectively 3600. Even BLS couldn’t get through that.

"Then I activate ’Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning’s’ effect again," Kira said. "Once per turn, banish a monster on your field. I choose ’Elemental HERO Bladedge.’

Another HERO-specific trap.

Jaden’s deck was full of these dedicated traps and HERO combos. When it worked, some of these combinations were actually really strong.

"I tribute Bladedge to destroy ’Black Luster Soldier – Envoy of the Beginning!’ So, Kira, you take 3000 damage!"

"Sorry, Kira," Jaden smiled confidently. "Looks like I win!"

Bladedge, powered up by the trap, assembled a huge golden hammer and charged straight into BLS’s blade!

"Then I activate my set card," Kira said. "Trap Card—’Shift!’ When a monster on my field becomes the target of an opponent’s Spell/Trap or attack, I can switch the target to another monster on my field!"

Silent Magician turned and nodded at Kira.

"I switch the target of ’Edge Hammer’ to ’Silent Magician!’" said Kira.

Jaden: "But you have five cards in hand—Silent Magician’s ATK rises by 500 for each, so she has 3500 ATK!"

"No," Kira smiled, "’Edge Hammer’ deals damage equal to the destroyed monster’s ’original’ ATK.

Silent Magician’s current ATK is 3500, but only her base ATK counts. So I only take her original ATK as damage..."

Boom!

The hammer smashed down, both the white-robed mage and golden HERO vanished in a storm of destruction.

"...which is 1000."

[Kira, LP 2800 → 1800]

"You’re strong, Kira," Jaden said, then laughed. "But now your Silent Magician is destroyed, and BLS already used its effect, so you can’t attack this turn."

"Maybe not," Kira chuckled. "Did you forget Silent Magician’s other ability?"

"Oh, right..."

Even though Bladedge was gone for good, when Silent Magician was destroyed, the released energy formed a white magic circle.

"When Silent Magician is destroyed by battle or card effect, I can Special Summon a ’Silent Magician’ monster other than herself from my hand or deck, ignoring Summoning conditions.

From the intersection of chaos and order, the light magician descends—

A white silhouette spun from the magic circle, robes fluttering, staff twirling, silver hair billowing like a dream.
