Chapter 477: Fishing

Lu Yang remained unaware that the guests invited by the Dao-Seeking Sect were currently being beaten up by another group of invited guests.

In the cultivation world, such occurrences were commonplace. As cultivators who wielded immense power, acting on whims and engaging in battles was the norm, and so was getting hunted down.

The Taciturn Daoist Priest could personally attest to this.

Having satisfied her ceremonial cravings, the Everlasting Immortal Fairy relinquished Lu Yang’s body back to him.

Along the roadside, disciples had set up stalls, hosting a variety of activities, so many that Lu Yang couldn’t even recognize them all.

When it was proposed that they could organize their own games, the senior disciples eagerly stepped forward, each brimming with ideas; applications piled up like snowflakes in the cave abode. The Everlasting Immortal Fairy devolved her authority to Lu Yang to handle the task, but he was overwhelmed by the sheer volume and passed it on to Yun Zhi.

Yun Zhi’s approval criteria were simple—as long as the activity wasn’t dangerous and didn’t tarnish the Dao-Seeking Sect’s reputation, it was permitted.

“Sect Leader Lu.”

Greetings, Sect Leader Lu.”

“Greetings, Sect Leader.”

All along the way, voices called out to Lu Yang. He nodded in response to every one of them. I must say, this feels pretty amazing.

He changed out of his cumbersome ceremonial robes.

“Acting Sect Leader, would you like to buy some books?” A senior male disciple, often on duty at the Great Mission Hall, beckoned to him.

Those from the Dao-Seeking Sect referred to Lu Yang as the Acting Sect Leader, while outsiders simply called him “Sect Leader.”

“Books? Are they not available in the scripture library? Lu Yang was puzzled.

“These are all good stuff you won’t find in the scripture library. Do you want to take a look?” the senior male disciple urged.

Slightly tempted, Lu Yang stopped at the stall, curious to see what kind of premium goods were on offer. “What do you have here?”

“Acting Sect Leader, although you are the sect leader’s disciple, you probably haven’t interacted with him much. Here, I have an autobiography written by the sect leader himself. Interested in buying a copy?”

“Shifu’s autobiography?” This was indeed something the scripture library wouldn’t have and a book Lu Yang was very tempted by.

“I’ll take one.”

“Fifty contribution points.

Lu Yang clicked his tongue. Fifty contribution points for a book is steep. But given how often I make meritorious contributions, I have plenty of contribution points. This is simply a drop in the bucket.

After transferring the contribution points, the senior male disciple handed him a book with a worn, curled cover.

The Evolution of Prison Conditions in the Great Xia Dynasty Over Two Millennia

“...This is Shifu’s autobiography?”

Lu Yang suddenly recalled that Yun Zhi had once mentioned this book. She said Shifu believes that one should leave their mark on the world, so he wrote this book based on his personal experiences.

Strictly speaking, the contents are far more reliable than his pingshu stories. It can be considered an autobiography.

Lu Yang’s heart ached. Outside, this book can be bought with just loose silver. Yet here in my own sect, it costs fifty contribution points.

To cheat even the Sect Leader!

“Don’t be angry, Acting Sect Leader. I’ll throw in another book for free,” the senior male disciple hastily added with his last shred of conscience.

“What book?”

“The sect leader has enemies everywhere. As his youngest disciple, you’re bound to run into them easily. I’ll give you a book with a list of his enemies. How’s that?”

“That’s more like it.”

Lu Yang took the book. Its title read: List of Great Xia Dynasty’s Fusion cultivators

“...So every Fusion cultivator is Shifu’s enemy?”

The senior male disciple waved his hand and flipped through the pages for Lu Yang. “It’s not that bad. Look, Acting Sect Leader, I’ve marked a few names in red.”

“These people are Shifu’s enemies?”

“Only these people aren’t the sect leader’s enemies.”

Lu Yang felt emotionally exhausted. I’ve become a disciple of a shifu who hasn’t taught me a single day, yet he has enemies all over the world.

“Take care, Acting Sect Leader. Come again!” The senior male disciple warmly saw him off.

“Senior Brother, may I ask if you still have that book from earlier?” Another buyer approached after Lu Yang left.

“Which one?” The senior male disciple squinted at his new customer.

“List of Great Xia Dynasty’s Fusion cultivators. I don’t think I’ve seen it outside.” The buyer looked about Lu Yang’s age.

Under the senior male disciple’s uncomfortable gaze, he bashfully scratched his head. “I’m Zhou Qingshi from the Monolith Sect. I figured if I ever meet a Fusion senior in the future, it’d be impolite not to recognize them, so I wanted to buy the book to study up on them.”

The senior male disciple beamed with joy, his suspicions dispelled. “Ah, I see! It’s fifty thousand spirit stones; take it or leave it.”

“F-five thousand?!” Zhou Qingshi gasped. But upon thinking of the book’s usefulness, he gritted his teeth and bought it.

The senior male disciple shot a meaningful glance at someone nearby, signaling to add Zhou Qingshi to the watchlist of suspicious individuals. He snorted coldly, “A Golden Core cultivator wanting to recognize every Fusion cultivator in Great Xia? Do you think you’re Junior Brother Lu?”

Lu Yang hadn’t gone far when he spotted a familiar face. “Palace Leader Luo, what are you doing here?”

Luo Hongxia had set up a temporary stall by the roadside. It was technically considered an illegal structure, but no one dared to call her out on it. She sat on a straw mat with a box placed before her.

She glanced up at Lu Yang. “Oh, it’s Sect Leader Lu. I’m fishing.”

“Fishing?” Lu Yang was baffled. There isn’t even water here. What is she fishing with?

Luo Hongxia didn’t explain, simply motioning for him to sit.

Once Lu Yang sat down, she said leisurely, “I assume you’ve heard the pingshu storytelling of Saga of the Dao-Seeking Sect: Chronicles of Lu Yang? The contents are remarkably detailed and accurate. I wonder who could’ve spread it?”

Lu Yang could feel his back drenched in cold sweat. He immediately sold out his master. “That was all my shifu’s doing! He asked about the meeting in the name of the sect leader, so I told him what happened.”

“Hmph, I knew it was him!” Luo Hongxia sneered, revealing a vindictive smirk.

Before Lu Yang could say more, Luo Hongxia’s peer, the Sect Leader of the Mystic Sect, approached.

Spotting Luo Hongxia, the Mystic Sect Leader grinned devilishly. “Fellow Daoist Luo, I heard you got beaten up by Sect Leader Lu. Is that true?” A Golden Core cultivator defeating a Fusion cultivator? Anyone with an ass would know there’s more to the story, but that doesn’t stop me from mocking her. Too bad Qiu Jin’an and Yang Ding aren’t here, or I’d mock them too.

Just as Lu Yang was about to explain, Luo Hongxia waved him off. “It’s true. Sect Leader Lu can confirm it.”

Luo Hongxia’s frank admission caught the Mystic Sect Leader off guard. There’s something amiss with her reaction...

Luo Hongxia continued, “This involves ancient secrets. If you’re interested, I can tell you about it.”

“Ancient secrets?” The Mystic Sect Leader’s interest was piqued.

“There are too many people here. Let’s talk inside the box.” Luo Hongxia opened the lid.

The Mystic Sect Leader’s eye twitched, finding the box eerily familiar. “Isn’t that the Light-Retaining Treasure Box from your Moon Laurel Immortal Palace—“

Before he could finish, a blinding light erupted from the box, sucking him inside.

Inside the treasure box, the Mystic Sect Leader heard a cold chuckle behind him.

“Young fellow, I heard you wanted to know how we lost to Lu Yang?”

He turned to see Qiu Jin’an and Yang Ding grinning menacingly, while Master Jiesha wiped blood from his fists with a compassionate expression.

Qiu Jin’an and Yang Ding charged, and soon, the Mystic Sect Leader’s blood-curdling scream echoed through the box.

Outside, Lu Yang gulped and stared mouth agape as Luo Hongxia calmly closed the treasure box.

“This is the fishing I was talking about.”
