Chapter 19: Chapter 19: We Reject This Evidence

Heaven hasn’t treated her unfairly; although she has lost in love, it has given her the best sister in the world.

They quickly arrived at the civil courtroom.

It was already 8:50, and the staff members were gradually taking their positions. There weren’t many people in attendance. Elara Hale and Zion Fitzwilliam sat at the defendant’s seat.

The Jacobs also entered. Mason Jacobs had a simple procedure done on his nose and was wearing a bandage, looking somewhat amusing. He and Kylie Dalton sat at the plaintiff’s bench, with Chester Lowell and the assistant lawyer sitting beside them.

Meanwhile, Rosalind Jacobs and Cecilia Quincy went to the spectator’s seats.

There were six minutes left until the hearing began, but Brandon White still hadn’t arrived. Elara Hale asked Zion Fitzwilliam, "Did you call Attorney White? Is he almost here?"

Zion Fitzwilliam nodded, his expression calm and collected, unlike Elara Hale, who was visibly nervous, sitting as the defendant for the first time in her life.

His voice was steady, "Don’t worry, Brandon will arrive on time."

Elara Hale had no choice but to nod and not ask further.

The Jacobs, on the contrary, showed disdainful expressions upon noticing that Elara Hale’s lawyer was absent. They knew Elara Hale was foolish, but they didn’t expect her to be so foolish as to not even find a proxy lawyer.

Did she think that a woman who knew nothing could defeat their elite lawyer, or did she understand the Jacobs were not to be messed with and decided to give up struggling ahead of time?

Chester Lowell said in a low voice to Mason Jacobs, "With the absence of the opposing counsel, it will be settled within half an hour."

Mason Jacobs nodded and asked, "How much compensation did we previously ask for?"

Chester Lowell replied respectfully, "Seventy thousand."

"Double it." Mason Jacobs coldly glanced at the two opposite, "I want one hundred forty thousand in compensation; if I can’t destroy them, I’m not a Jacobs!"

There was a flash of difficulty in Chester Lowell’s eyes; the amount was excessively high... but still not without room for maneuver.

Thinking of this, he nodded and said, "No problem."

At 8:59, the judge took their seat, and Brandon White still hadn’t arrived.

Elara Hale’s heart had already cooled halfway.

In today’s lawsuit, if Brandon White doesn’t show up, she’ll inevitably lose.

Even if Brandon White does come, it probably wouldn’t change anything, but at least it would secure a sliver of hope. Now, even that sliver of hope was gone.

In the spectators’ area, Rosalind Jacobs sneered, "No matter how outrageous Elara Hale is, if her lawyer doesn’t show, this lawsuit holds no suspense at all. I can’t wait to see her kneel before me, weeping and begging me graciously to spare her!"

Beside her, Cecilia Quincy, linking arms as good friends, seemed in enchantment but persuaded empathetically, "Let’s forget it, Elara is not having it easy; spare those who you can afford to spare..."

Rosalind Jacobs crossed her legs and scoffed contemptuously, "What’s not easy about her climbing up to my brother, having everything with just spreading her legs? If she hadn’t seduced my brother, how would they have gotten married? Cece, don’t forget, you were my brother’s first love, and Elara Hale, that bitch, stole your man!"

There was a fleeting look in Cecilia Quincy’s eyes, scrutinizing and worried in her expression, as she sighed lightly.

Nine o’clock.

The judge was about to announce the formal start of the hearing.

Brandon White hadn’t arrived yet, and it seemed there was no turning around.

Although Elara Hale dared not have any hope for this lawsuit from the beginning, she never expected to lose in such a manner.

The lawyer didn’t show, letting the other side gain the upper hand without spending a single soldier.

Quietly, she glanced at Zion Fitzwilliam; he still carried that breezy, indifferent look, sitting there leisurely, without the slightest sense of urgency.

One must understand, losing the case means at least having to pay hundreds of thousands. Does he truly not care at all?

With a solemn face, the judge began, "Order in the court— next..."

However, just before finishing his words, the front door of the courtroom was suddenly pushed open, and Brandon White walked in, wearing a leather jacket. His hair remained styled in a distinctive ponytail, with light steps, seemingly unconcerned about the lawsuit on every level.

As he reached the middle, he even whistled at the judge, "Sorry, I’m late~"

"Defendant’s lawyer, please keep it serious in court."

Brandon White curled his lips and shrugged, walking swiftly to the defendant’s seat. Elara Hale overheard him murmuring, "Pretending to be serious, he’s the least serious one here."

Elara Hale was somewhat surprised by this remark, "Attorney White, do you know the judge?"

Brandon White coughed, half-jokingly explaining, "We were classmates."

Elara Hale immediately realized that Brandon White and the judge belonged to the same profession, and calling them classmates wasn’t far-fetched.

With Brandon White’s arrival, the courtroom briefly buzzed with noise. The judge picked up the gavel and struck the table, "Now that the defendant’s lawyer is present, please, plaintiff’s lawyer, elaborate on the issue between you."

Chester Lowell stood up, recounting how Zion Fitzwilliam and Elara Hale had handled Kylie Dalton outside Jacobs Villa, with embellishments.

The judge gestured for Chester Lowell to sit down, then turned to the defendant’s seat, asking, "Regarding the plaintiff’s statement, what do the defendants have to say?"

Since Brandon White arrived too late for Elara Hale to fill him in, she was worried he might be led by the nose. Suddenly, Brandon White chuckled and said, "Apologies, your honor. The evidence presented by the opposing counsel is suspected of illegal acquisition, and we do not acknowledge it."

"Your honor, I have another video!" Chester Lowell immediately stood up, "I request to play this video during the trial so everyone can see what a terrifying pervert and sadist the man on the defendant’s seat is."

The video was quickly played, showing Zion Fitzwilliam confronting Mason Jacobs in that one brutal scene.

The cruel methods and bloody actions noticeably increased the chatter in the spectator’s area.
