Who Cares About Him When I'm Married to the Richest Man?-Chapter 100: I’m Keeping This Child
Elara got off the car and saw Zoe crouching outside the security room, carrying a large backpack, her whole body buried in her knees, with her small shoulders twitching as she cried.
Feeling a bit worried, she walked over and said, "Zoe, I’m here."
This little girl has a tough fate, having Chris Chase as her father, becoming a child from a single-parent family at an early age, not to mention being implicated by Chris Chase, suffering malicious bullying at school.
Now she can’t find her mom, she must feel so helpless inside.
She’s only ten years old.
Zoe lifted her head from her arms, her eyes swollen and red, with tear marks on her face, looking at Elara as if she saw a savior, choking out, "Sister, I’m so worried about my mom..."
Elara handed her a tissue, "Don’t be afraid, wipe your tears first, then tell me everything, we will figure out a way to help you."
Zoe glanced at Zion Fitzwilliam behind Elara, noticing he was giving her a friendly smile, she felt a bit relieved, wiped her tears, and began to talk about the past few days.
Elara and Zion Fitzwilliam listened and occasionally raised questions about her words, quickly understanding the situation.
It turned out that Zoe’s mom became a full-time housewife after marrying Chris Chase. Later, the marriage encountered issues, and she divorced Chris Chase. Due to Chris Chase’s request, Ivy Jenkins arranged a series of compensation for Zoe and her mom.
After the divorce, Zoe and her mom received a paid-off house and car, and Zoe’s mom found a cashier job. Although she graduated with a master’s degree, she married right after graduation and had no social experience after staying at home for years, so she could only get a cashier job.
Life was hard, but the mother and daughter were quite content.
Every afternoon after school, Zoe would go to the supermarket where her mom worked to do her homework while waiting for her mom, as per her mom’s request, who got off work late and feared for her daughter’s safety if she went home alone.
But starting yesterday, Zoe couldn’t find her mom. After school, she went to the supermarket, but the staff there told her that her mom hadn’t come to work all day.
Zoe thought her mom was sick and took a day off, so she hurried home, but she wasn’t there either.
Zoe was worried sick, searching everywhere but found nothing by midnight.
She was helpless and finally curled up on her little bed to sleep.
But she couldn’t sleep at all. With eyes wide open in the dark night, tears constantly streamed down as she was scared. Never in her life had she been apart from her mom. Her mom was her umbrella, even during the hardest times when her parents divorced, her mom took great care of her.
But now, her mom suddenly disappeared.
She prayed silently, hoping that when she opened her eyes the next day, her mom would appear before her, and if she did, she promised never to make her mom angry again.
But after a sleepless night until the sun rose, her mom still hadn’t come back.
She wanted to cry but felt pointless without her mom there to see. Swallowing back her tears, she washed her face and went to school.
Hoping she might find her mom in the supermarket after school.
But her mom still hadn’t appeared.
Zoe’s world collapsed. She was just a ten-year-old child who didn’t know how to handle this. Then she remembered the number Elara Hale had left her, like a lifeline, and called.
After listening to Zoe’s account, Elara felt a bad premonition, unable to fathom why a responsible and loving mother would leave her ten-year-old child for two days?
Without even a word.
Something must have happened.
She looked at Zion Fitzwilliam, who maintained a calm expression and said, "Let’s take her home."
Elara realized he thought the same as she did but chose to keep it from the child.
Elara nodded silently, squatted down, and said to Zoe, "I’ll help you find your mom. Will you come home with me first?"
Zoe looked at her full of hope, her eyes holding youthful innocence, "Sister, can you find my mom?"
Elara nodded, "I’ll do my best."
Zoe finally relaxed, having endured two days, she fell asleep as soon as she got in the car.
Zion Fitzwilliam drove them home, then said to Elara, "I’ll go to the police station."
Elara asked, "Should I come too?"
Zion Fitzwilliam shook his head, speaking with a calm and trusting tone, "Stay home with Zoe, she’s too young to be alone."
Elara had to nod, watching Zion Fitzwilliam leave, she sighed lightly, burdening him again.
Now she just hopes Zoe’s mom is safe and nothing major happened.
Otherwise, she couldn’t imagine how a mere ten-year-old girl could go on.
Zion Fitzwilliam returned after an hour, his first words reassuring Elara, "The police are reviewing surveillance, results will be out by tomorrow at the latest."
Elara was anxious the police wouldn’t open a case, and finally relaxed at this point.
"Let’s pray they find her."
Zion Fitzwilliam said nothing, only his deep eyes flickered with an unusual gleam.
The police wouldn’t have results so fast, but Assistant Harris had just informed him that Zoe’s mom was seen being tied into a van.
But further tracking was difficult, the van had fake plates, and everyone onboard wore masks.
Not wanting Elara to worry, he didn’t share this information. His team was investigating, surely results would come soon.
That night, many struggled to sleep.
At the Jacobs Family, Cecilia Quincy had just come back from outside when Kylie Dalton called her.
She was still wearing the cocktail dress from the toast, the red brocade fabric enhanced her like a red butterfly, exquisite and beautiful.
Kylie Dalton sat cross-legged on the sofa, looking displeased at Cecilia Quincy, "Done with all the errands outside?"
Cecilia Quincy felt wronged, her eyes turning red, a new bride pregnant for four months, yet Kylie Dalton made her tidy up the yard flora post-wedding.
She worked for hours, developing thick blisters on her hands, never enduring such hardship since childhood.
"Mom, I’ve finished pruning." She didn’t dare to show an attitude to Kylie Dalton and answered honestly.
Kylie Dalton glanced at her with her nose held high, "Don’t blame me for being strict. Now that you’re married into the Jacobs Family, you’re part of it. As a daughter-in-law, doing more work is good for you. Know your place, understand?"
All Cecilia Quincy wanted was to return to her room and rest, so she nodded regardless of what Kylie Dalton said, "You’re right, Mom."
Kylie Dalton was barely satisfied with her attitude, "Good, now go to the kitchen and prepare those ingredients. Tomorrow morning, I want an avocado smoothie and sandwiches. Rosalind wants steamed taro and white fungus red date soup. Mason eats simply, just make some fried dough for him, but he likes it freshly made, so you’ll have to put in some extra effort tonight."
Cecilia could hardly believe her ears.
After making her trim branches for three or four hours, now she has to get up early to prepare breakfast for the whole family?
She married into the Jacobs Family, but she didn’t sell herself as a slave to them!
Biting her lip, she spoke softly, almost pleading, "Mom, I’m really tired right now. Can Auntie prepare breakfast tomorrow morning?"
Kylie Dalton looked at her coldly, showing no mercy, "No, you must do it yourself. Otherwise, how can you show your sincerity?"
Cecilia was on the verge of tears from the injustice. It was only the first day of her marriage, why was she being tormented like this?
She bit her lip again and continued to plead, "Mom, I can barely move my hands right now, I really can’t cook. Maybe another day..."
Kylie Dalton looked at her with a hint of a smile, making Cecilia inexplicably anxious. She pretended everything was fine and asked, "Mom, what’s the matter?"
Kylie Dalton asked indifferently, "What do you plan to do with that girl you brought back?"
Following her gaze, Cecilia finally remembered the child, Jasmine, crouched in the corner. After the wedding ended, another child had left on her own. To gain favor with Mason Jacobs, she intentionally brought Jasmine back.
Unexpectedly, Mason disappeared right after the wedding.
She had almost forgotten about Jasmine until now.
She hurriedly put on a pleasing smile and said, "Mom, I felt sorry for the child. I thought since it would be a while before I had my own, why not adopt her for now?"
Hearing this, Kylie Dalton slammed the teacup onto the table and scolded fiercely, "Adopt? Is this how you discuss things with me? I heard you even completed the whole process. If I hadn’t found out, would I suddenly have a granddaughter without knowing it?"
Cecilia quickly shook her head and softly said, "Mom, you misunderstood me. I wanted to surprise you."
"I see you still don’t repent!" Kylie Dalton gritted her teeth and said, "Go kneel in the Jacobs Ancestral Hall! Kneel for three days and nights!"
Cecilia’s face turned pale with fright, and it was only then she realized why Kylie Dalton had been tormenting her all day.
It was all because of the adoption?
But when Elara Hale adopted a child, everyone praised her for her kindness and compassion. Why was no one taking her side?
Cecilia’s thoughts were in disarray for a moment, but she quickly grasped the key point: Kylie Dalton didn’t like or welcome the girl brought back from the orphanage.
If she continued to care for the girl, Kylie Dalton would be even more annoyed with her.
She quickly said, "Mom, it was Rosalind who asked me to bring the child back. I’m really not..."
Before finishing, Rosalind Jacobs rudely interrupted her, "What nonsense are you talking about? How is this my business? Don’t falsely accuse me!"
Cecilia was stunned, "You were the one who told me to, and you even found the address. I was just following your..."
Rosalind sneaked a glance at her mother, noticed her mother’s face already livid, and hurriedly denied it, "I said it has nothing to do with me, and you still dare to lie in front of my mom!"
Cecilia looked at her in disbelief!
They had agreed that if anything happened, Rosalind Jacobs would take responsibility!
Now that Kylie Dalton was giving her a hard time, Rosalind didn’t even say a word to help her?
Not only did Rosalind not dare to speak up for Cecilia, but she didn’t even dare to stay. She stood up and went upstairs.
Cecilia watched her back, still in shock, when she heard Kylie Dalton coldly say, "Get rid of that little brat by tomorrow. From today, you will stay in the Jacobs Ancestral Hall, and come out in a month!"
Cecilia’s legs went weak. What did this punishment imply?
Sending off the little brat wasn’t difficult; she could easily send her back to the orphanage. But staying in the ancestral hall for a month?
She had been inside the Jacobs Ancestral Hall, which was large and luxuriously decorated. But no matter how luxurious, she didn’t want to be confined there for a month!
Just as she was about to plead, Mason Jacobs walked in from outside. It was as if she had found a mainstay, and she quickly rushed to Mason, clinging to his arm with a face full of sorrow and despair.
"Brother Mason, I don’t want to go to the ancestral hall. I’m scared. Staying there for a month, I’ll die!"
Mason Jacobs had just stepped through the door; hearing this, he stopped and frowned at Kylie Dalton, "Mom, why are you making things difficult for her? She’s pregnant."
Kylie Dalton’s expression did not improve seeing him. Thinking of today’s wedding, which should have been a high-society event but turned into a joke to all Northgarde because of Cecilia’s stupid actions, she couldn’t help but get angrier.
"She’s getting bolder, not even discussing with us before bringing back a mongrel. She even dared to admit in front of so many people that she adopted that brat. What will Northgarde’s elite families think of us? The Jacobs Family has always had the best reputation in Northgarde, and now she has ruined it all. Your sister is about to start looking for a marriage partner. Which reputable family will want to associate with us now?"
Kylie Dalton looked at Mason Jacobs with a stern face, as if daring him to say another word or she’d throw him into the ancestral hall too.
Mason followed his mother’s finger to look at the girl in the corner.
He recognized this child. When he was still married to Elara Hale, they had considered adopting this child.
He recalled seeing Elara at the wedding today. For a moment, he was grateful. Thank goodness she came, thank goodness she still cared about him. He didn’t mind her causing a scene at his wedding; he wanted to see her concern.
Unexpectedly, she came for this child.
He was already married to Cecilia, and Cecilia carried his child. Barring unforeseen circumstances, there was no turning back for him in this life.
So this child would be the only remaining link between him and Elara. Maybe one day, he could use this child to...
Mason Jacobs pulled back his thoughts and looked at his mother, "Mom, I want to keep Jasmine."
Kylie Dalton thought she had misheard and raised her voice, "What did you say? Mason, have you lost your mind? Cecilia is confused, and so are you? Adopting a child right after marriage, people will think it’s your illegitimate child. The rumors outside will be even worse!"
Mason Jacobs shook his head, "I don’t care, but I want to keep this child."
