While My Mage Wife Grinds, I Power Up Idly-Chapter 24: Hmph, She’s Truly Been Bewitched by a Man
Chapter 24 - 24: Hmph, She's Truly Been Bewitched by a Man
Before dawn.
Ashu fumbled his way to an open area, a spot he had scouted long before. It was a picturesque place with a broad view, perfect for setting up a stage and hosting a wedding.
Originally, he had planned to hold the ceremony in a couple of days, but since Anna had asked him so eagerly, he couldn't delay any longer.
Fortunately, now that he had undergone a transformation and officially become a cultivator, he could use his Magical Essence to manipulate the environment. Without this ability, it would have been impossible to finish in time with just his own hands and tools.
For the past eighteen years, Ashu had lived as a farmer, so he hadn't made connections outside his community. He didn't need to send out invitations—just a call to the village, and the villagers would gather.
Counting the number of people in his mind, Ashu looked over at the empty seat area in front of the stage. He still needed to craft a set of wooden chairs.
There was no need to invite everyone in the village—just a few friends with whom he had a good relationship. These people would sit on the left side, designated for the groom's side. He left a central aisle and reserved the right side for Anna's family and friends.
As for how the future witches would arrive, Ashu couldn't quite imagine yet, so he left the chairs for now.
Amid the hustle and bustle, the first light of dawn began to break in the east.
For a cultivator skilled in controlling Magical Essence, these tasks weren't particularly difficult. Ashu walked a little further, then turned back to admire his work.
Everything was satisfactory, except he didn't have time to paint the wooden chairs white.
"This is where we'll have the ceremony, and we'll set up the banquet in the yard at home."
Ashu thought to himself, then turned around to head back. He still needed to hand out red envelopes to the kind women in the village to ask for their help in preparing the food for the day.
Just as he reached the door of his house, a delicious aroma hit his nose.
Lately, he had been the one making breakfast, but today, unsure of how much time he would spend outside, he hadn't prepared it in advance. He didn't expect that Anna had already taken care of it.
"I've set up the stage. Want to go see it after breakfast?" Ashu entered the house, washed his hands, and said.
"Sure, but when I see my wedding stage, something special happens..." Anna replied with a smile. "Some magic triggers, and they'll receive a message. It's the spell they put on me before I left."
"The witches?" Ashu asked.
"Yeah, when I left, my mentor asked me what I planned to do, and I told him I was coming back to get married. So..." Anna shrugged, looking a bit helpless. Even the would-be witches had the talent for gossiping.
Ashu thought for a moment. Perhaps he should delay their arrival. After all, aside from the venue, he wasn't fully ready for everything else.
"Well, we'll wait for now. After breakfast, I'll go talk to the villagers about the situation."
"Whatever you say."
...
After breakfast.
Ashu immediately set out to notify the villagers, who couldn't hide their envy.
By noon, everyone had gathered at the wedding venue.
As the villagers sat on the left side, awaiting the groom's side, they noticed Anna's friends were still absent. Whispers started circulating among them.
Just then...
Anna, dressed up beautifully, made her entrance. She stepped onto the long carpet, her ethereal presence making her seem like a goddess descending from the heavens.
She looked at the stage Ashu had built for her, and in that instant, the magic the witches had placed on her activated. This spell stretched across continents and entered a secluded space, setting everything into motion.
An elder stopped her training and looked at the several young women, who had also received the message.
They exchanged knowing glances.
Then.
One by one, beams of light projected, and in Anna's line of sight, their projection bodies sequentially took their seats.
The villagers were stunned by this divine sight. They had seen priests, they had seen monsters, but this was the first time they witnessed such a miracle.
Ashu, too, turned his attention to the newcomers.
The first to sit was an elder, her long black hair styled in a bun. Her expression was serious but not stern. Since she was a projection body, her form appeared slightly transparent, but it was still evident she was wearing a black sheer gown, matching the style Anna had worn when she returned.
Behind her were several young women, the youngest of whom appeared to be only thirteen or fourteen years old.
"Anna, sis!"
"Where is he? Let me see my long-awaited Ashu! Wow, he's so handsome and strong! Anna, take it easy, don't let him break you!"
"Mind your manners! There are so many people here! Watch your mouth!"
"I'm just here to embarrass Anna."
"Enough, Eommy."
Ashu listened to the whispers of the would-be witches and couldn't help but feel embarrassed. These women were indeed quite removed from the mundane world. Aside from the elder, who appeared composed, the others clearly had the mentality of children.
Anna walked down the carpet and paused slightly beside the elder.
"Master, you came as well."
"Hmph, I didn't say I wouldn't come." The elder glanced at Anna, and for the first time, a subtle expression appeared on her usually impassive face. "You've returned to being a cultivator?"
"All thanks to Ashu for awakening me."
"He? In just a few days... You're not pregnant, are you?"
"Huh?"
"If you're not pregnant and you're coming back, something strange must be going on. I'll need to check this out thoroughly."
"I'm not."
"I didn't exile you. Why are you taking it out on me?"
"I mean... I don't want to leave Ashu."
"Hmph, truly bewitched by a man. Go up on stage."
Their conversation was shielded by a layer of Magical Essence, so even Ashu couldn't hear what they were saying.
Then, he saw Anna walk up onto the stage.
Ashu had anticipated many possible accidents during the wedding, but nothing unusual occurred. Aside from the special status of the guests, the ceremony proceeded like a typical wedding.
After the ceremony.
Anna casually grabbed the young witch who had made suggestive comments earlier, "Eommy, don't rush off, help me with something."
The witches from the Witch's Guild weren't planning to stay for the meal since they were only projection bodies and couldn't eat.
After witnessing the wedding, they were ready to return to their training.
"What can I do for you? I've recently developed a tongue magic and a foot magic. Which one would you like to learn?"
"No. That's not what I meant." Anna, now a wife with real-life experience, wasn't interested in comparing herself with the young girl who was still in the theoretical stage. She spoke seriously, "Help me investigate a certain area. I suspect the Cidi followers have established a base nearby."
"Oh? Cidi?" Eommy furrowed her golden brows. As a current would-be witch, she was no stranger to the name of the evil god. "In that case, I'd better properly test the purity of the Cidi followers here."
As her words ended.
Eommy immediately activated her spiritual perception. Although she was just a projection body, her cultivation level was still substantial, and in an instant, she pinpointed the location of the water accumulation area along the river and forcefully pierced through their protective barrier.
Her spiritual perception traveled down the dark corridor, advancing steadily until it reached the main hall.
"Quite large, it's not small at all," Eommy murmured.
"Tsk, could you focus on something more serious?" Anna quietly said from the side.
"I'm talking about the building."
Eommy replied, continuing her exploration. She turned the Cidi followers' base upside down, thoroughly investigating the area. Finally, she said, "There are a fair number of them, but they aren't particularly strong. You should report it to the nearby Holy Cultivator Guild. This is definitely a Cidi base. This is the authoritative report from a current would-be witch."
"Thanks."
"Thanks for what? If it weren't for the fear of violating regulations, I would have flattened it for you. I can only help you with this much. You should report it quickly. They're still preparing a live sacrifice. You know, this time is the most dangerous."
Anna nodded. While serving in the Witch's Guild, she had to strictly abide by its rules. Even a minor infraction would result in severe punishment in the closed space.
She couldn't let her friends be punished because of her.

Getting this much help in investigating was already a strong sign of their close relationship.
"Alright, go back quickly. I wish you an early promotion to a full member. See you next time." When Anna noticed that everyone else had already canceled their projection magic, she hurriedly ended the conversation.
If Eommy returned late, there would be unnecessary suspicions.
"Okay. See you. Say hello to your husband for me."
With that, Eommy returned to the closed space.
Anna gazed into the distance. If this were a normal Holy Cultivator Guild territory, then reporting it to the Holy Cultivator Guild would result in someone going to eliminate the heretics.
However, Gorn Village belonged to the Riven Town parish, and the village didn't even have its own church. They had to rely on the large cathedral in Riven Town for support.
The cathedral certainly had the power and financial resources to organize a crusade, but unfortunately, there were hidden heretics within the cathedral itself.
If this matter were exposed, the Cidi base would undoubtedly move.
It would lead to endless reprisals, and the two of them couldn't be on alert 24/7 without rest, constantly guarding against those fanatical followers.
Moreover, the two of them had already been attacked by the Cidi followers yesterday, which meant they had already set their sights on them.
The current situation was that both sides knew each other's hometowns, and it was just a matter of time before a devastating force intervened.
