When Will My Childhood Sweetheart Marry Me?-Chapter 113: Unusually Obedient Today
The tone was like a cold wind passing through a hallway, brushing against Jiang Shuyao’s back and raising a chill all over her body.
She turned around, looking at him without understanding why.
Pei Yan changed his position and continued to lie down, with his eyes closed he said indifferently, "If any other guy dares to touch your hair again, I’ll make sure he regrets it."
"..."
Jiang Shuyao furrowed her brows, and suddenly, some images flashed through her mind. Slowly, she widened her eyes in disbelief.
"You, you went to the school that day?"
He had seen Lu Chen untangling her hair from the branches, but he hadn’t shown himself, only to settle scores now after the fact?
The girl wore a blank expression, as if she understood something and yet understood nothing.
The promotional clip on the television was drawing to a close with Principal Lu making his concluding remarks, dressed in a suit and looking every bit the upstanding man—like father, like son.
Normally, Pei Yan wouldn’t be one to hold his tongue.
But at the time, given his circumstances as a troublemaker in the public eye, how could he step out to defend what was his?
That was laughable.
And so damn frustrating.
Pei Yan laughed at himself and waved for the girl to come a bit closer.
In situations like this, he was the boss.
The boss, in a bad mood, had to be appeased in every way, and Jiang Shuyao, without a second thought, obediently stood in front of him, "What do you want?"
He patted the spot beside him, "Sit down."
The auntie was still in the kitchen; Jiang Shuyao thought he was up to some nonsense again and chose a spot a little farther from where he had indicated and sat down slowly.
Watching her cautiously as if she was on guard against wolves, Pei Yan sported what he considered to be a harmless smile, "Don’t be afraid, come sit here."
"Just say what you need to say, stop smiling."
The more he smiled, the more she smelled a rat.
However, this time, Jiang Shuyao really misjudged.
As soon as she moved over, the guy beside her whipped out his phone and with a quick snap, captured their two faces into his photo album.
"..." He lured her over just to take a selfie.
There were no shortages of photos of him and her together since they were children.
But she was thinking too simply; in a moment, Pei Yan presented the phone in front of her.
Jiang Shuyao focused her gaze, blinked, and without thinking, read out what was on the screen.
"Couple compatibility 99%, male exuding a mysterious and enchanting vibe, this oftentimes is irresistible to women of the water sign constellations..."
??
She stopped reading halfway and snatched the phone away.
Reverting to the small program’s home screen—it was a tool to determine if two individuals looked like a couple based on their facial features.
She: "..."
Jiang Shuyao was silent for a few seconds and then slowly turned her head to stare at someone.
"Not even I bother with this stuff, how immature can you be."
Their eyes locked.
She wanted to see what kind of excuses would come from his mouth.
To her surprise, the guy didn’t even argue, nodding earnestly, "There are quite a few areas where I’m immature, please be patient with me moving forward."
"..." She was running out of patience today.
Jiang Shuyao truly hoped the auntie would hurry up and serve dinner, to stop the young master from spouting this kind of nonsense.
There’s a saying that hits right on the mark.
A man might usually seem off-limits, but once he’s in front of the person he likes, his persona falls apart so thoroughly that not even a dog could sniff it out.
However, Shuyao probably didn’t feel much about this saying because in her memory, Pei Yan was only about 1% normal, and the remaining 99% encompassed everything else.
Exactly at twelve o’clock, the meals were always as timely as the aunt made them.
The three of them sat at the dining table, quietly eating, and the atmosphere was somewhat harmonious.
In the latter half of the meal, the aunt suddenly remembered something and, with a face full of affection, raised her head to ask Shuyao, "Yaoyao, that promotional video from your school, the girl in it is you, right?"
Yunzhong had recently gone all out with their campaign, not only appearing on satellite TV but also buying ad space in subway stations and various amusement venues.
It wasn’t anything to be ashamed of, so Shuyao didn’t hide it and just nodded lightly in acknowledgment.
Upon this, the aunt seemed even more delighted and kept praising her, "Yaoyao is so pretty and looks even better on TV."
"The boy next to you is also not bad. Your school really knows how to pick them."
Adults talk in such a similar way.
Shuyao didn’t think much of it but subconsciously glanced up and caught the eye of the person sitting opposite her.
Pei Yan, expressionless, drank his soup, his gaze slightly lowered, and his thick eyelashes just happened to conceal the emotions unknown to others in the depths of his eyes.
Having spent a lot of time with him, Shuyao knew this guy’s temperament well, what he liked to hear, and what he didn’t.
The aunt’s last comment unwittingly put pressure on her.
That pressure lasted until two in the afternoon.
When she packed up her things to go to the studio across the way, Pei Yan was lying on the sofa motionless, holding his phone and watching the Yunzhong promotional video over and over again.
Shuyao’s eyelids twitched madly, unsure of how to deal with him.
In the end, having no other option, she returned to him and asked dryly, "Aren’t you going to finish your character drawing? Aren’t you coming with me?"
After nearly two hours, the background music of the promotional video had played so many times she felt calluses could grow in her ears.
Feeling helpless, Shuyao walked over to him and pressed his phone screen off. She spoke in a gentle tone, "Stop watching it. If it really makes you unhappy, just spend the money to hire a skilled hacker to break into Yunzhong’s backend system and replace my face in the video with someone else’s."
Face-swapping technology was already pretty mature, and anyway, this guy feared neither heaven nor earth. If he caused trouble, someone would cover for him up top, and it wouldn’t turn into a big issue.
The girl’s eyes shimmered brightly, looking especially clear.
Pei Yan slapped his hand on her forehead, "Then you tell me, whose face should it be replaced with?"
After pondering for a moment.
Shuyao burst into giggles, "Ask Chen Jin if he minds sharing the frame with Lu Chen for a bit."
She was usually so serious, so this sly side of her caught the person on the couch off guard and made him smile quizzically.
It was just a joke, and the brief episode was quickly pushed to the back of Shuyao’s mind.
That very night, Pei Yan’s character drawing was successfully completed.
The canvas wasn’t very large, and if he really hung it on the bedroom wall, it wouldn’t match.
Shuyao thought about it and suggested, "How about you get a roll tube to store it in, keep it as a collector’s item. I can draw you another one next year and another the year after that. We can keep going like that, and when we have enough, we can put them together into a collection and bind them into a book."
The girl was unusually compliant today.
Never having experienced such treatment before, Pei Yan was filled with a mix of emotions.
His heart, thumping excitedly in his chest, seemed even more spirited than its owner.
Ever since he came back from the hospital, Pei Yan had been feeling somewhat surreal.
He never imagined his endlessly unrequited love would be completely transformed by a meal of spicy crawfish.
And the most damn bizarre thing was that Liang Zixiao, that scumbag, played a part in it.
Ha.
It was the first time Pei Yan felt grateful after beating someone up; thankfully, he hadn’t killed the man.
Otherwise, it would have been such a pity.
