When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 940: Ivy Jennings’ Decision
Ivy looked at her facing the wind, a gentle smile appearing in her clear eyes, "But why do I feel... I’m irredeemable?"
"Ivy, you’re really hurt by President Lancaster. He doesn’t love you, so you’ve become self-conscious."
A friend said to her sympathetically, "Have you forgotten that you have your own brilliance? You’re a top student who’s won many awards, you’re efficient, teachers and classmates all like you, and you always lead the way in everything you do. People would fight to hire someone like you anywhere."
But her state of being trapped in love was truly a mess.
Her friend’s words were true, yet they offered her no comfort. In her deep affection for Adrian Lancaster, she had worn herself out from the emotional strain.
"There’s nothing wrong with liking someone," her friend softly spoke, "You liked him when he was single, which is ethical. Why is it considered unethical for you to still like him after he’s married?"
Matters of the heart are an eternal mystery, truly hard to explain.
"Ivy, you haven’t changed. You’ve always been you, and your feelings for President Lancaster haven’t changed. Defining the morality of your feelings based on whether he’s married is unfair."
Her friend even felt some injustice on her behalf, such an outstanding girl ended up draining herself like this.
Ivy took another sip of her drink, laughed softly, "He really dislikes me now... I deliberately went to help at the company, and when he found out, he was very angry."
"But you still love him." Her friend cut to the heart of it, "To you, he has no limits. Even if he were to stab you today, you’d still love him, right?"
Yes, that’s love, such a foolish love.
Clearly knowing it’s meaningless, yet proceeding without hesitation...
"Ivy, you’re excellent, you should have a life of your own. Let the past be the past. After all, you’re no longer at Prestige Group, you won’t see him every day, so why not just bite the bullet and forget about him?"
But with matters of the heart, it’s not simply something you can let go of, and now, the situation is different.
Ivy’s mind was full of Adrian Lancaster. Perhaps, she still clung to a shred of hope...
"Faye Turner has been missing for nearly three months now, likely not coming back." Ivy’s heart softened considerably. She didn’t take joy in this, yet her lips curved slightly, "Maybe it’s fate."
"Being a stepmother isn’t easy, I’m reminding you, don’t do anything foolish." Her friend pulled her back in time, "Ivy, with your qualities, you can totally marry a good man, don’t hang yourself from just one tree, okay?"
Ivy sipped her cocktail leisurely, smiling as she looked at her—
"Lately, I’ve been making a decision, although I’m not sure if it’s right, but... having made it... I probably won’t regret it."
As for what decision it was, Ivy didn’t say.
That night, when her friend dropped her off at home, she realized Ivy had been bottling up too many emotions, drinking herself nearly into a stupor, yet she seemed happy. This happiness was related to her decision.
Next morning.
In the café beneath the Prestige Group building, Ivy, wearing a black spaghetti strap dress, sat elegantly by the window, looking quite spirited.
While waiting for someone, she faced the familiar surroundings, feeling unexpectedly melancholic.
Soon, a young man came in. Seeing her, he walked straight toward her, "Ivy."
"Hey, Leo, sorry to bother you."
Leo Lane was a product manager for one of the Prestige Group’s projects, also Ivy’s university classmate. He had always admired her and had once expressed his feelings, which she politely declined. The two maintained a distant yet cordial friendship.
"What will you drink?" she asked gracefully.
His voice was gentle, "Caramel latte."
Ivy looked at the server, "Two cups, please."
"Okay, just a moment." The waiting server turned and left.
