When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 761: New Burdens
Rachel Sherman was very punctual too. Just as she stepped out of the elevator and headed towards the glass door, she spotted Mrs. Shaw from afar.
Walking out the glass door, this time, without waiting for Mrs. Shaw to speak, Rachel’s eyes darkened and she strode directly towards her, raising her hand and slapping Mrs. Shaw across the face!
The sound of the slap was crisp and startled the middle-aged woman with the perm.
This scene was witnessed by Chase Fletcher, who worried that Mrs. Shaw might retaliate and that Rachel would suffer for it, so he hurriedly opened the car door and got out.
"Did you really take it to the Fletcher family?!" Rachel couldn’t hold back her anger, though her tone was still restrained. "No matter how you all used to make trouble, I always endured it! Do you think I’m easy to bully? Do you even understand the law?"
Mrs. Shaw covered her burning face, genuinely shocked, her chest heaving. This girl dared to resist?
Is this still the Rachel Sherman she knew? Rachel was always such a pushover!
Before Mrs. Shaw could retaliate, Chase hurriedly came to Rachel’s side, put an arm around her shoulder, and glared at Mrs. Shaw, "That’s enough." He gave her the most severe warning with his eyes.
Seeing Chase, Mrs. Shaw’s arrogance immediately vanished. She covered her face and reluctantly averted her gaze.
"Please don’t disturb Rachel’s life anymore, and don’t try to fight for custody of June," Chase stated firmly. "If Dylan Shaw can end up in jail, there’s a way to find a reason to put you all in there too."
Mrs. Shaw was frightened by his words, bit her lip hard, and didn’t dare to utter a single rebuttal. In the end, she could only watch helplessly as Chase walked away with his arm around Rachel’s shoulder.
Sitting in the passenger seat of his car again, Rachel thought about her actions earlier and suddenly felt it might have damaged her image.
She actually laid a hand on an elder... a woman she had called "Mom" for three years.
But she was truly blinded by anger.
However, Chase seemed to sense her unease and directly encouraged her, "You were very brave just now; it’s the first time I’ve seen you so courageous."
Hearing this, she turned her eyes towards him, "..." slightly surprised.
"You can’t coddle people like your ex-in-laws," Chase continued. "If you keep enduring everything, you’ll live under their shadow every day."
Chase’s worldview was still very sound. He turned his eyes, his gaze gentle as he looked at her, "So, no matter when, we have to be ourselves. The greatest success in life is living the way we like; if you find her annoying, hit her. There’s nothing wrong with that."
"..." Hearing his affirmation, the burden in her heart felt much lighter.
But then, she suddenly felt another burden. Now, she was going to have dinner with him back at The Fletcher Family’s house, not knowing what to expect, like opening a mystery box.
Meeting his parents for the first time, she felt... a bit pressured.
Chase parked the car downstairs from her place and went up with her to get a beautiful and exquisite gift box.
Inside were two everlasting sago flowers.
"Is your sister home?" Rachel suddenly thought, "What should I give her? I’ve been thinking about it, just..."
"My sister isn’t home," Chase put an arm around her shoulder, opened the car door, and shielded her as she got into the passenger seat. "She’s shooting a film recently, quite busy, and doesn’t come home often."
Rachel knew some things about Kylie Fletcher, and after realizing she was Chase’s sister, she had specifically looked her up online.
In the evenings at The Fletcher Family’s villa.
