When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 546: A Different Kind of Mother-Son Bond
For Eliza Hayes, the whole day was filled with both anticipation and anxiety.
As the time for Adrian Lancaster to get off work finally arrived, she found herself somewhat restless and uneasy.
Compared to her, Nanny Warren appeared much calmer. "Ma’am, would you like to take a nap first?"
"How could I possibly sleep?" She had been pacing back and forth in the room, but stopped and glanced at her. "Hurry and bring the scarf over, try it on again." 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎
"I’ve tried it on five times already."
"Go quickly!"
Nanny Warren sighed gently and complied, turning to fetch the scarf that the madam had knitted herself.
"Quickly, try it on," Eliza Hayes urged anxiously, "Try again."
Nanny Warren took the scarf out of the bag.
The one she knitted for Adrian Lancaster was slightly longer, and the one for her daughter-in-law, Faye Turner, was shorter. The gradient colors were very gentle and quite beautiful.
Nanny Warren put the scarf around her neck once more, and Eliza adjusted the details, asking, "Does the yarn prick? Is it comfortable to wear?"
"It’s comfortable," Nanny Warren had answered countless times.
"Turn around, let me see the back."
Nanny Warren complied, and Eliza Hayes noticed it wasn’t bulky. "Faye will definitely look good wearing it. Do you think Adrian will like it? Will he wear it?"
This had been the question troubling her the entire day.
"How would I know?" Nanny Warren replied frankly, removing the scarf, "Whether he’ll wear it or not is up to him."
Eliza Hayes felt a bit disheartened hearing this. She took out her phone, checked the time, and estimated that her son and daughter-in-law should have already set off.
About five minutes ago, a Lamborghini had pulled out from the company, driven by Mr. Kerr, with Adrian Lancaster and Faye Turner in the backseat.
His expression was somewhat stern, his handsome brow furrowed slightly.
Faye Turner glanced at his profile, a question lingering in her mind, so she gently held his hand, "Adrian, what was in the envelope your mother sent that day?"
She had a guess but lacked a definite answer.
Upon hearing this, Adrian Lancaster turned to look at her with eyes as clear as amber, and replied truthfully, "It was her handwritten letter of remorse, about ten to twenty thousand words."
The girl’s heart skipped upon hearing this, and she recalled the changes in his mood over the past couple of days.
He seemed to have often fallen into thought alone.
"Adrian, did you... reply to her?"
"No."
After a moment, she asked, "Did you call her?"
"No."
"Did you send a WeChat message..."
"No."
Even before she finished asking, he had already answered.
Meeting each other’s gaze, Faye Turner was slightly taken aback, then her expression softened, "That’s good. Let’s find a time later to have a face-to-face conversation."
This indeed seemed unavoidable. Even if Adrian Lancaster didn’t face her today, he would have to face her someday, as she was his mother and still lived with his grandfather.
Thus, from the moment he got off work, his mood was inexplicably gloomy.
Outside the car window, everything was covered in snow. In this season, Argent was transformed.
The sun was hung behind the snowy screen, and the sunlight wasn’t harsh at all, with the whole world shining softly and serenely.
As the car stabilized in the courtyard, Adrian Lancaster draped a red cape over Faye Turner’s shoulders upon alighting, wrapped his arm around her shoulders, and led her toward the living room.
The servant, who had been waiting by the entrance of the living room, quickly turned and headed toward the backyard upon seeing the car stop.
She dashed into the Buddha hall and reported to the middle-aged woman who was burning incense, "Ma’am, the young master and madam have returned."
Eliza Hayes felt a mix of joy and inexplicable nervousness, gently placing the lit incense into the burner before bowing to the Buddha.
Then, she turned to walk out, with Nanny Warren following beside her.
