When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 520: Love Is a Two-Way Journey
Faye Turner began to recall her first meeting with Byron Moss, then she told Kylie Fletcher everything she knew about him, in great detail.
Kylie listened very intently, nodding from time to time, her gaze never leaving Faye.
You can tell if someone truly likes someone from their eyes; it simply cannot be hidden.
While Faye and Kylie were sipping coffee and discussing Byron, Byron was in his apartment, pacing by the window with his phone in hand.
He had just finished a landscape painting commissioned by a friend.
In his mind, the image of Kylie lingered. Ever since she added him on WeChat that day, they hadn’t talked.
Byron had the urge to send her a greeting on WeChat several times, but held back each time, not knowing what to say to her.
In the end, he put down the phone, unfurled a sheet of paper on the wide desk, and picked up a calligraphy brush to calmly create art.
Perhaps only then could he feel a bit more at ease.
He told himself that if he couldn’t give her a better life, then he shouldn’t trouble her.
The next morning.
Bea arrived at the president’s office; Adrian Lancaster was seated behind a bespoke Western-style desk, wearing a suit his wife had lovingly made for him.
The perfect tailoring displayed his handsome physique to the fullest.
With much regret, Bea reported, "President Lancaster, the results of all 67 paternity tests are out, and none matched with the samples from your wife."
Adrian’s breath caught, and he looked up at him; something flickered in his deep eyes.
He had eagerly awaited today’s results every second of every minute, so excited that he hadn’t slept well the previous night.
He hadn’t expected to hear this outcome.
As he stared at Bea, Adrian furrowed his brow slightly; though he said nothing, the disappointment in his heart was apparent.
Bea stood in front of the desk, head down, also feeling regretful about the results.
The office was so silent you could hear a pin drop, a wave of sadness sweeping over, as if to envelop and consume Adrian Lancaster.
"You can go now, thank you for your hard work," he softly said after a while, not blaming him.
Bea respectfully bowed to him, then turned and left.
Adrian Lancaster rose and went to the window, hands in his trouser pockets, frowning as he gazed at the bustling cityscape outside, the towering skyscrapers, the crease in his brow becoming more pronounced; nobody knew how much he was hurting inside.
Because he had been thinking of finding Faye’s biological parents, and then hosting a grand, once-in-a-lifetime wedding for her before their baby was born.
It seems plans never keep up with changes.
After a moment, he dialed Bea’s number and asked softly, "You mentioned that there are 68 families in Argent who lost daughters all named Shane?"
"Yes."
"You checked 67; what about the last one?" He pinned his hopes on this last unresolved case. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
"They moved three times and can’t be contacted; no one knows where they went, still under investigation."
But Adrian believed maybe the hope lies with this family.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he instructed, "Keep following up, let me know as soon as there’s news."
"Okay."
"Also, summarize all the information you currently have on this family for me." Adrian decided to visit himself.
"Okay."
Shortly after the call ended, a detailed email arrived in his inbox; during breaks from work, he began to analyze it thoroughly, practically turning into Sherlock Holmes.
Just like how Faye was secretly searching for his father’s whereabouts, Adrian was secretly seeking her biological parents.
Love is a two-way journey.
Neither shared their plans with the other, yet both quietly made efforts for each other, wanting to give the other a surprise.
