When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 506: Living with Hope
With a creak, the door was gently pushed open. The sudden noise in the night did not disturb Eliza Hayes.
Nanny Warren softly closed the door and walked towards her, "Ma’am, why haven’t you slept yet? You’ve been looking at it for an hour. If you keep this up, you’ll wear yourself out."
Eliza Hayes did not turn her gaze; she only smiled gently at the person captured in the photograph, "Nanny Warren, do you know? Today, Faye Turner told me that Caleb might still be alive."
Nanny Warren was not surprised to hear this, because she felt that the possibility was slim.
If Mr. Lancaster were still alive, after these 20 years, wouldn’t such a person come back on his own?
Or send a message back?
Who would support him for 20 years? Unless he was imprisoned.
But to Eliza Hayes, even the slightest, remotest hope, she would hold as her greatest hope.
Because she truly loved Caleb Lancaster so much.
"Nanny Warren." The woman finally turned her gaze and gave her a gentle smile, "The Taoist was right. Faye’s arrival will make the Lancaster Family better and better."
She said, "I finally understand; it might not be economic support. She might really find Caleb and make our family whole again."
"Ma’am, the greater the hope, the greater the disappointment. You must stay rational."
"Even if there’s just a sliver of hope, I’ll hold onto it. Alive, I want to see him; dead, I want to see his body."
"But it’s been 20 years, and he couldn’t be found then. How could he be found now?"
Eliza Hayes said, "Nobody went looking back then. Everyone thought that damned person was Caleb. By the time the truth was revealed and a search began, there were no clues. He wouldn’t say a thing, only claimed that Caleb was dead, thrown into the sea to feed the sharks."
Thinking of this matter made her grit her teeth in hatred! Even torturing him for 20 years wouldn’t be too much!
Nevertheless, the fact that Ma’am accepted Faye and no longer targeted her daughter-in-law, and was willing to mend the relationship with Adrian was seen as a good thing by Nanny Warren.
As for whether Mr. Lancaster could be found, it was miraculous to even describe it, and rational people should not hold too much hope.
But to someone who thought about it day and night, you couldn’t pour cold water, because sometimes people had to live on faith.
"Get some sleep; it’s getting late." Nanny Warren told her, "Believe that fate has its arrangements."
As long as Eliza Hayes thought that Caleb Lancaster might still be alive, she felt the air around her was sweet, and she couldn’t help but smile at the corners of her lips.
She even forgot about the things she did to Victor Peterson, which she would likely face legal consequences for in the future.
As long as Caleb could come back, she would trade her life for it.
The next morning.
Chase Fletcher got up and looked in the mirror while brushing his teeth. There was a bruise on the left side of his mouth, quite obvious.
He found some skincare products to try and cover it up, but it was futile.
As a man, he couldn’t understand concealer, nor was he familiar with it.
It didn’t hurt, just looked a bit unsightly.
When he reached the courtyard, the driver Noah Caldwell opened the car door for him, "President Fletcher, the bruise on your lip is quite visible, isn’t it?" Going to the office like this would attract comments.
Chase Fletcher didn’t hide it, "It’s alright; no one will ask." With that, he slipped into the car.
"Do you need to go to the hospital?" Noah Caldwell asked with concern.
"No, let’s just head to the office." The man’s voice was gentle. The work that piled up yesterday still needed to be completed today.
On the way to the company, Chase Fletcher turned to look at the scenery outside the window, and couldn’t help but think of Rachel Sherman.
