When the Wind is Sweet: The Fairy Tale of Mr. and Mrs. Lancaster-Chapter 247: Deep Inner Conflict
Faye Turner observed the man’s face in front of her; he wasn’t wearing a mask.
Adrian Lancaster and this man were carved from the same mold, with slightly similar brows, forehead, and the bridge of the nose.
His eyes were open, but there was no focus... the whole person seemed to have no awareness.
Could such a man in a vegetative state stand up?
To confirm the man’s secret, Faye Turner looked up at Nanny Warren and softly asked, "Nanny Warren, hasn’t Dad been able to stand these past few years?"
Upon hearing this, the man tilted his head without any reaction.
"Yes," Nanny Warren replied to her, "Mr. Lancaster has had muscle weakness and hasn’t stood up for over ten years; he doesn’t even have the strength to move his fingers."
In Nanny Warren’s understanding, Mr. Lancaster was as weak as a pile of tofu, relying solely on a breath of life to hang on.
But Faye Turner knew he could stand up.
Why was he pretending?
Was he being threatened?
"Have you figured out a solution after taking his pulse for so long?" Eliza Hayes lost her patience.
Faye Turner looked at her and then gently put down her father-in-law’s hand.
She slowly stood up and walked towards Eliza Hayes, "Mother, could I see the medications Dad usually takes?"
The two women’s gazes locked, with Eliza Hayes staring coldly at her, her breath slightly heavy.
But Faye stood firm before her, looking right at her without any fear of her aura, trying to read something from her mother-in-law’s expression.
"Nanny Warren, go fetch them for her." Eliza Hayes’s icy gaze never left her daughter-in-law.
Nanny Warren turned, opened a drawer, and brought over several bottles of medicine. Faye Turner took them, "Thank you." She looked at the bottles and even opened them to examine the pills inside.
Throughout the process, Eliza Hayes kept her icy gaze on her.
Faye Turner remained calm, quickly returned them to Nanny Warren, but felt doubtful inside.
Eliza Hayes had a strong dislike for Faye Turner, full of suspicion and very impatient, "Is that enough? Did you find anything? Can it be cured?"
Faye Turner met her gaze, "..." She didn’t speak.
"Leave." Her mother-in-law issued an eviction order, "In the future, you won’t be allowed to mess around!"
In the Lamborghini on the way back to Aqua Flora Residences, Faye Turner sat next to Adrian Lancaster, feeling extremely low.
"How was it? Is there any hope for a cure?" Adrian Lancaster turned his eyes to ask her, knowing nothing of his father’s condition these past years, as all the information was with his mother.
But at a careful glance at his father today, Adrian Lancaster felt very saddened. Such a shell, relying on injections even for nourishment, what is the meaning of living?
Faye Turner’s heart was heavy; she lowered her eyes, feeling extremely conflicted inside, debating whether or not to share her judgment with him.
If she told him, would he believe her?
Would it stir up a storm?
Actually, when she left the Lockwood Old Manor, Faye Turner appeared calm, but her back was covered in fine sweat, now completely wet.
"What’s wrong?" Seeing her distracted, Adrian Lancaster called her.
Faye Turner snapped back, mindful of Mr. Kerr’s presence, and smiled lightly, "Let’s talk about it later, I’m a bit tired today and want to rest for a bit."
Adrian Lancaster reached out to wrap her in his arms, holding hope in her, now united with her.
Moreover, she was carrying his child, and Adrian Lancaster decided to live well.
He thought to himself, he would fall in love with her.
After the young couple left the old manor, Eliza Hayes returned to her bedroom, sitting dumbfounded on the bed, looking pale.
The old soothsayer’s words were like a curse, making her head throb painfully.
"Madam..."
"Nanny Warren, do you think that wretched girl will come again?" Eliza Hayes suddenly grabbed Nanny Warren’s hand, fear filling her eyes, "Is she going to disrupt this peace?"
