Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Show Your Responsibility

"Faye Turner! Are you unclear about the terms of your own agreement?!" Serena Sutton trusted her own judgment, "In any case, he doesn’t love you!"

Faye’s heart trembled slightly. As she tidied up her desk, she said to her, "Serena, if I were you, I’d focus on my own work and stop meddling in others’ affairs, because you can’t change anything anyway. Don’t jump around like a clown."

"Stop deceiving yourself." Serena was certain they would divorce, "A marriage without love won’t last, even with a child!"

These words caused a heavy feeling in Faye’s heart, leaving her speechless.

Today’s news was the front page headline, and thanks to Serena’s commotion, rumors began spreading throughout Prestige Group—

"I heard Faye Turner and President Lancaster have a marriage agreement, but there’s no love between them. I wonder why."

"It’s absurd. On President Lancaster’s first day in office, Faye called his name in front of everyone in the lobby."

"They don’t seem like a normal couple."

Adrian Lancaster happened to overhear these words. He paused his steps and glanced at the two figures walking away.

He neither blamed nor was angry.

On his ring finger was the wedding ring prepared by his grandfather. She was carrying his child, yet he hadn’t given her a status, which frustrated Adrian Lancaster a bit.

He didn’t love her...

The entire day at the company felt like an eternity for Faye Turner.

So as soon as work hours were over, she quickly packed up her desk, grabbed her bag, and headed downstairs.

As soon as she stepped out of the company lobby, she bumped into Dustin Shepherd standing not far away.

He was staring at her intently, as if waiting for her.

Faye was startled at first, then she made her way over to him and stopped in front of him. She was silent, unsure of how to begin.

He, too, had been feeling uneasy all day.

"Dustin," Faye said softly.

"Be happy," Dustin suppressed his heartache, offering a soft smile, "Faye, since that man is President Lancaster, I feel reassured."

"..."

Faye was at a loss for words, sensing a feeling of loss and sadness in his eyes.

As she watched Dustin’s departing figure, Faye felt utterly exhausted. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

On her way home, she glanced out the car window, gradually zoning out, and felt no relief from leaving the company and its gossip behind.

For the first time, she felt uncertain about the future.

In the president’s office.

Adrian Lancaster received a call from his grandfather, who said, "Since you’ve been caught on camera, just go public! Don’t let outsiders speculate about Faye; show some responsibility."

After the call ended, he stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the clouds outside, memories of the summer he spent with Sienna flashing through his mind.

He found it difficult to understand his own heart.

When Adrian Lancaster returned home, he could sense Faye’s low spirits, yet she tried to remain calm, "You’re back? Let me change your bandages."

"Hmm." Adrian entered the study.

Shortly afterward, Faye came in carrying a bowl of medicine. As usual, she placed it on the desk and rolled up his sleeve to apply it.

The cool touch brought Adrian’s reasoning back to reality, and he looked up at her.

"Adrian, why didn’t you suppress the news?" Faye asked while tending to his wound, looking up.

"We’re already married; there’s nothing to suppress," Adrian asked her, "And you? How was your day? Did anyone at the office pressure you?"

"Yes!" Faye was not one to be easily bullied, and though she was reluctant to report people, the situation called for it today, "Serena, your childhood friend."

"Who’s her childhood friend?" Adrian was repelled by that phrase, "I’m not close to her at all!"
